Ahhh, Aleste 2! 🥰 This was the first ever game where I discovered / figured out an exploit all by myself!
The standard 8-way joystick was the default input for the game, and this game was pretty difficult on teenage me. Progressing past area 2 was a rare thing.
But then I read somewhere that the MSX2 mouse, which used the same ports on the device as the joysticks, would transmit joystick signals _if you booted the MSX2 while keeping both mouse buttons pressed..._ Would that work? It did! Playing Aleste 2 with the MSX2 mouse was so much more controlled, it meant that you could fly in curves rather than a series of 8 fixed directions. Evading shots became much more easy as result of this. At the first try I ended up reaching the final area of the game.
I love the historical and professional format tour videos have. Its like watching a video game presentation from a museum
Very nice! Time to resurrect my old MSX 2 from Philips! Still have one with matching monitor, printer and joystick. See whether it still works.. Thanks!!
Did it all still work?
Space Manbow is the best game on MSX2. Konami magic strikes again. Everything about it is class. Would loved to have seen Space Manbow 2 on Snes. Maybe someone can make a sequel or remaster on current tech or preferably Megadrive as the Snes doesn't get the love like the Mega unfortunately
Nice list as always. If I may make a suggestion, I find the "active" screen area, i.e. the actual game footage, a bit small. Even on my 27" monitor, it's about the size of a big postcard when viewed full screen. I don't think that a big change would be required either; by slightly resizing and strategically moving static elements around a little, I think you could gain quite a bit of screen space.
Yes! Way too small, especially on phones
Always wanted an MSX2+, but it's import only and the prices are insane!
I love all the efforts that Konami put into this. It's weird to say, but I've recently discovered that the first MSX was a pretty common Home Computer among the 80's here in Italy. Not as much as the C64 and Olivetti of course, but strangely common.
Buy a brazilian MSX1 and a conversion kit also from them. Find the head of the list MSXBR-L, Ricardo, he will point you in the right direction. Ask him too who are the scammers so to avoid them(there's a lot).
The most powerful 8bit computer
Nice video - the MSX2 certainly had some amazing titles!
Really great picks, hats off!!! 🎉👏👏👏
Great video, thanks for sharing
Golvellius is also on the Master System, but I guess you are right in considering it a MSX exclusive. On the SMS the focus is more on unlocking secret caves in each screen, whereas this one seems to rely more on dialogues.
Yeah, its very different, certainly enough for it to qualify
"MSX, MSX, MSX, that's all they think about, eh." --The Life of Brian
Audio on the vampire killer gameplay is a second or so out of sync. Other than that, great video as always!
Yeah for some reason I always have that issue when recording from Blue MSX and getting it back in sync is really hard.
This really is as good as 8 bit gets, surely?
Very good question. As an early MSX fan I would promptly answer yes but so to provide contradictory I would say, despite its color depth, the NES has some really impressive games.
I think its a throw up between the MSX2 and SAM Coupe for most powerful 8-bit computer. The MSX2+ is probably the winner overall.
@@TheLairdsLair What about the Amstrad CPC? Games look pretty good to me.
The CPC is nowhere near as powerful as the MSX2 or SAM, it's more in line with the Commodore 64 and Atari 8-bit.
@@TheLairdsLair Although only acessible through io ports, the Yamaha VDP for 2+ is still incredible, but the CPU clock remains at 3.57MHz( if I remember the Z80 limit is 4MHz). Things back there were really a daily dogfight...
MSX as a line of computers, passed me by at the time, being a console player. I got into PC's due to going on training schemes. Not to play games but download utilities.
So Aleste and Power Strike are the same, but Aleste II on MSX, Power Strike II on SMS and Power Strike II on GG are all different games? How come? Maybe you could do I video on the series? 🤩🙏
Correct! I rarely do videos on game series, as everyone seems to do that, but you never know!
0:25 is that Goemon game on the flyer? if yes, then why its HAL? im confused
Govelious 2 , space mambow make use of msx2+ scrolling . Laydock 2 is an msx2+ title .
F1 3D is MSX2+ too
@@TheLairdsLairI know , but I thought you mention that
Ah ok, got you
I can't believe the msx was never released in the west
It was, it was released worldwide.
@@TheLairdsLair I never seen it in Canada
The Sony ad is a Spanish one. The voice was from Constantino Romero, also remembered as the Spanish voice of Darth Vader, Clint Eastwood, ...
Wow, that is really interesting!
@The Laird's Lair hey did you ever try this exclusive game I posted on channel ?
What game?
@@TheLairdsLair there's a vid on my channel , click it and see
it's playable too
just make a move
You did not include gsmes like Nemesis 3 or gradius, and penguin adventure, and Aleste? Come on now.
Of course not, because Gradius isn't an exclusive and is also an MSX1 game, Nemesis 3 and Penguin Adventure are both MSX1 titles and are both in my video on MSX1 exclusives. Aleste 2, which I believe is a better game than the original, is in the video.
Come on now, you don't know what an MSX2 is do you?
