    8/7/23 - great lesson and teaching; it's similar to some calligraphy techniques I've studied in Oregon...pinstriping is the word instead of "making marks"!! Great work, you're doing, TKS

    I did some flame work with my scroller today. After watching this video I’m going to practice these loops AND work on staying on the very tip of that brush. Not very good at it, but to me scrolling style is very satisfying.

    Lots of good info here....I gotta go back and watch part one. I'm not sure if I'll ever learn scrolling but I'll keep trying. So far doing better with lettering using one stroke brushes. My biggest handicap is that I'm using water-based paints only--no 1-Shot or other solvent-based lettering/striping enamels.....difficult to get correct paint consistency with water-based paint!

    • @villapinstriping
      @villapinstriping  Před 2 lety +1

      Ya. You're at a huge disadvantage with water based paint. But maybe you can cross some information into your art

    • @sped17373
      @sped17373 Před 2 lety +1

      @@villapinstriping Thanks! I wish I could find just ONE person who's also trying to make water-based paint stripe and letter like enamels. I cannot be the only one in this world. Hell, Mack brushes actually makes their 2838 Series specifically for water-based paint, so somebody out their is doing it.
      That being said--and keep in mind I'm a rank amateur just starting out striping and lettering @ 65 yrs. old.....so far, the 2 brushes I like are the No. 2 Drag'n Fly and No. 4 Virus II. Am quite familiar w/ outlining and have some experience with lettering as well, so not starting out completely cold.

    • @sped17373
      @sped17373 Před 2 lety +1

      @@villapinstriping Well, I've figured out one tip already. Those Dr. Martins calligraphy colors are water based. and made for airbrush, tech. pen, and....brush. And it's the right consistency to flow off your brush very nicely. Once I can get the consistency and opacity of enamels by using water-based E'tac and Wicked, it's going to be a game changer for me.....similar to when I realized I could actually DRAW pencil-thick lines with my airbrush.

  • @VictorPaulDiaz
    @VictorPaulDiaz Před 4 lety +1

    Thanks for the videos! Can you explain how you hold and twist the brush? I'm using the kafka 3 and when I come around on The loop it the line thickens up on me

    • @villapinstriping
      @villapinstriping  Před 4 lety +1

      With a kafka scroller you don't have to twist the brush, just hold it in a comfortable way that you can continue the loop.
      I'll try to make a video for you soon.

      @villapinstriping  Před 3 lety +1

      It is a random white board. You can practice on almost anything. I started off on glass because its reusable. But over the years, ive Pinstriped on all kinds of materials. Just has to be smooth

    how can i straighten my brush base? I have a kafka 1 scroller but drenched it with oil and now it has a curve to it

    • @villapinstriping
      @villapinstriping  Před 4 lety

      You can clean it off with Dishwashing soap and warm water, then.. blow-dry it. **Very important** When you re oil make sure it is stored on a flat surface with the hairs straightened out

    So many great tips in this video, I wanted to ask you if you trim your brushes at all? I seem to have just one or two hairs that are too long. I also want to buy several more 1 shot colors through your Amazon links, but the sets of colors have been sold out for a while... Do you still make a commission if I click your link then browse and buy the colors individually? I want to support your page, you've been incredibly helpful.

    • @villapinstriping
      @villapinstriping  Před 2 lety

      Just a couple hairs yes. Absolutely trim them off. You want a clean crisp tip to the brush. A few extra hairs sticking out would be out of place and trimmed off by a razor blade.
      Also, Yes I actually get a commission of of anything you purchase through them links. Absolutely anything. TV's, Earbuds, whatever :)
      And I appreciate you giving me the heads up. I need to revamp that list soon. It's been a while since I've managed the list

    • @villapinstriping
      @villapinstriping  Před 2 lety

      Look up a video by ElRoy about trimming brush hairs. Very helpful as well

    • @villapinstriping
      @villapinstriping  Před 2 lety

      I will say, also, I've never trimmed a scroll brush. I exclusively use Kafkas and I've never had a problem with their "cuts".

    very detailed videos and great work on the pinstriping techniques. I just started pinstriping and got a scroller brush. Unfortunately I can't get my hands on 1 shot or alphanamel so I got a cheaper enamel paint which I believe works quite good. My problem is that when I do the scrolling the brush tends to flare the paint a bit.I cleaned it very well when I got it with nitro thinner and then with white spirit. Is that because the paint is too thick or over reduced? or it is my technique? Also, should I get mineral spirits for thinning the paint ? cause with white spirits it strarts drying pretty fast on my pallet. thanx and keep it up!
