Hi, I have the same motor and the magnetto lever that connects to the stator is not smooth in rpm ranges. It gets stuck even after using penetrating oil and turning it a few hundred times. It doesn't run smoothly when I accelerate so the engine Boggs down unless I turn the lever all the way to the right, also it idles at high rpm speed because lever doesn't go back. Any idea what it could be?
I have one just like it when it's out of the water it turns on but in the water it doesn't and when it turns on in the water it loses power it turns off and doesn't turn on again what do you think could be the problem
Cory my man enjoy your videos btw I noticed when you were cleaning out your carbs looked like some disintegrated fuel line from ethanol fuels. Also how junked up was the motor fuel filter Chris
Are you able to tell me why a motor same model as this wouldnt be having any reaction while turning the ignition? Just purchased a boat with this motor
Did you figure this out? when you say "no reaction" when you turn the key, can you even hear the starter going? If not, then it has to do with either your battery, or the starter (possibly solenoid) itself.
Yamaha made these outboards, they are simply rebadged as Mariner, Look for an impeller for the Yamaha equivalent. My Mariner 40C is equivalent to a Yamaha 6E9.
Back then the Mariner brand was shared between Yamaha and Mercury. I believe it was a way for Yamaha to start getting into the US market. Yamaha made the Mariner outboards up to about 40 or 50hp and everything above that was a rebadged Mercury. Can't remember when Yamaha pulled out of the Mariner brand but yes for at least the past 25-30 years the Mariner brand has been 100% Mercury.
@@DoublethenHalf-eu8mw ahh, makes sense. Same thing Tohatsu is doing today with mercury. The smaller Mercs are rebadged tohatsu up to around 25 or so. I knew a lot of commercial fisherman in Fl when Mariner first came out, most bought one because of price , but they soon proved out to be great commercial motors, trial by fire if you will.

Great job on the mariner engine how was the fuel filter and impeller on it Chris from the snowbelt of ohio 👍
Will that motor work on a
mercury controls???

Where do you connect the water? I just a boat with the same motor
How adjust carb ? Can you help me ?
I'm trying to buy on like this is this motor good ???
Love that motor stand
Where do you find carburetor parts
Where did you buy carburetor parts
Thanks for posting this. I have exact same motor. Does it have power tilt as well?
This one is manual tilt.
Very nice motors will last a long time with 50 to 1 premium fuel and oils synthetic blend I bet compression is strong with this motor.

Thank you! There was a rubber piece in each carb that had broken down and left all that gunk. The fuel lines weren't that bad.
Could be some old fuel line inside of fuel line i would blow them out like you did the steering cables
Ethanol fuel does that

Nice
Yamaha built some smaller Mariners but this doesn't look like a yam to me. At least not comparing it to same year Yam branded motors. Maybe a Tohatsu?
cool cool cool cool
Did you happen to replace the impeller? I have this same engine on my boat and cannot find a impeller replacement to save my life

I got this kit and it fit - 6F5-W0078-A0
When did Yamaha make Masriner motors?
I don't know the exact year range, but I believe approximately mid 70's to late 80's.
@@MakeItBetter1 I have an 84 Mariner Yamaha 40HP 2 stroke motor. Where is best place from your experience to find any parts?
Just flush it and change the thermostat and impeller in adequate time and use adequate oil in the mix. It will last a veeeeery long time.
I just got one but am scared I’ll break it lol
Some of these older motors are pretty bulletproof. I say SEND IT!
@@MakeItBetter1 lol can do
Yamaha made them. Wow! I thought they were a downgrade mercury
Some were also made by Mercury
Cool but why the the unnecessary music? It just irritating
I thought mariner was by Mercury, not Yamaha?? In fact, I don’t think Yamaha ever had anything to do with mariner…
