The Truth About DreamWorks vs Disney: Why DreamWorks is Better

  • In this video, we explore the age-old debate of DreamWorks vs. Disney and why DreamWorks comes out on top. While Disney may be known for its classic fairy tales and heartwarming stories, DreamWorks appeals to a wider audience with its humorous and entertaining films that are enjoyable for both kids and adults. We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both studios, and compare their upcoming 2022 movies. We argue that DreamWorks' "Bad Guys" and "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" surpass Disney's "Turning Red", "Lightyear", and "Strange World" in terms of writing, animation, and entertainment value. We also touch on Disney's recent inclusion of a gay romance in "Strange World", which we argue is a marketing ploy that detracts from the film's content. Overall, we make a compelling case for why DreamWorks is the superior animation studio and why Disney should focus on quality over quantity. If you're a fan of DreamWorks or just curious about the debate, this video is for you!

I think Dreamworks is better because they have become experimental and willing to take risks with their films, instead of just doing the same old stuff every single time. They used to be that way back in the mid 2000s, but when Kung Fu Panda became a mega hit, they began making more sophisticated and artistic films that treat their audiences like intelligent people. Even some of their weaker films recently have more effort put into them. Disney is just reusing the same material over and over again with shallow twist villains, gay characters who get killed off and show up for just three seconds, and sob stories just to win an award, rather than be artistic geniuses. Dreamworks doesn’t do that. They know animation is a great form of storytelling and the best medium in the world, and they want people to know that.

They did ok with the marvel movies up until Endgame but otherwise they're pretty much over, their so focused on pushing 'the message' their stories are just not interesting or good. I like how FINALLY after so many years people realize Dreamworks is a better storyteller than Disney.
Sure, Disney's story was great back in 2d days, but I always liked Dreamworks more for some reason.
I think Dreamworks' storytelling usually holds a deeper meaning when it comes to message.
While Disney's messages are usually..quite shallow and it feels heavily towards to entertainment and not..."storytelling"
Sure, there are Disney films with great messages like Mulan, but other than that, idk..I just didn't like how Disney's messages were mostly about "hopes and dreams" when Dreamworks were being like "There is no fairytale, but you can work on it"
I like how every Dreamworks characters work their way through to success.
    Like a true hero story.
As a child, whenever I tell people I like Dreamworks films, no one understood, heck, not many people knew the name "dreamworks" it's when I say "The company that made Kung-Fu Panda" and THEN people realize it.
It always bothered me, and everytime I say "Dreamworks is better than Disney" people were like "But Disney is going stronger, and there is a reason for it" to which I couldn't say anything and I always thought Disney was overrated to some extent.
But now, I can safe to say my child-self's analyzation on both animation companies were correct because now, unless you're a huge Disney fan, most people agree Disney sucks on storytelling

Disney has been recently falling behind in quality. Their creativity has been running short obvious by the reboots of snow white and stuff ( The little mermaids voice is stunning though) . They also do the thing where they want you to feel bad for the character. Turning red wasn't bad but I didn't even bother with strange world. Puss in boots though was a amazing story. Unlike Disney, dreamworks show their villains with perfection. Goldie and the crime bears are great as redeemable characters and Jack Horner is the perfect nonredeemable character. He shows no regrets to his actions and I love him for that. Death is the middle ground. He only doing his jobs and helps puss realize how he needs to value his life. Then they release a real hit that everyone loves and perhaps the usual stuff is just them making bank to really make something amazing just for the hell of it.

I personally liked Strange World because the animation gave me Jules Verne sci-fi vibes that I thought was kind of missing in animation as a whole, even if the story was somewhat bland. But DreamWorks is definitely stepping up their game (especially with The Bad Guys and PiB2) because they've essentially taken the ingredients that made Disney animation so successful for such a long time: make a simple but entertaining movie that has great animation, great storytelling, iconic characters, and excellent use of conveying different life morals/lessons. It also helps that DW has not had to endure cultural controversy that Disney has dealt with over the past few years. Heck, even Illumination has been kicking ass as well. In conclusion, if Disney wants to still be at the top of the animated film realm, it needs to take a cue from its Renaissance era and just start being unapologetic with its content. But for now, DW is king

    • @user-zl2vx2mx7r
      @user-zl2vx2mx7r Před rokem +8

Exactly. The creators of the cartoon had a choice: to add a gay character or not to add. If they had not added, then the cartoon would have been easier for the viewer to perceive and would have received less hate (I speak as a person from a homophobic country. No matter how cool and well-written the character is, if he is gay, they will hate him). If they added a FULLY gay character, it would inspire the LGBT community a lot, but Disney would lose a lot of money from the conservatives. What did they do? They didn't add a gay character. They added a character who acts gay in a couple of scenes BECAUSE. Its orientation does not affect the plot in any way, and, when filmed in homophobic countries, these scenes can simply be cut out. Plus, these teenage lovelines with shyness and averting the eyes are cringe. CRINGE. There could not have been a more pathetic and vile act in this situation.

One thing I like about DreamWorks is recently they've been making more stylized movies. Bad Guys and Puss TLW both feel like they're blending 2D and 3D. The models, sets, characters are 3D but the effects have motion lines and/or smear frames instead of regular motion blur. Bad Guys also felt more simply shaded, closer to the aesthetic of 2D animation. Disney however just seems to be trying for as realistic as possible, and it doesn't feel as unique.

While I agree that Puss in Boots 2 was an absolute masterpiece, I still enjoyed Strange World, Lightyear and Turning Red as well. Also you can't really judge a movie just by one scene. Turning Red was a good movie if you leave out that cringy twerking scene.
These Disney movies of movies can still be enjoyed by all audiences as well. Everyone was a teenager in their life, is or will be, so as an adult, movies about teenagers can remind you of your own teenager time, or prepare you for the time when you have children that become teenagers. And you don't have to belong to a minority to relate to a character of a minority.
Nowadays people just blindly hate against movies because they see other people hating on these movies online (the way you hear others talk about a movie can have a lot of influence on how you perceive it), I wonder how many people have actually seen the movies instead of just judging them by one scene.

@@loveladii69 Puss in Boots the Last Wish shows that you can have multiple villains and my opinion is that Death is a villain because he turns Puss into a obsession to a degree because he hates being disrespected so Death makes it personal.

While I would agree with this vid, it seems it focuses way too much on the whole gay relationship thing, making it seems anti-LGBTQ. And since I'm strictly homosexual©, I have to disagree with opinion. Gay relationships in kids movies ARE needed, to show gay kids like I was once myself that these people DO exist and are important. I actually loved the gay representation in Strange World. What I did not like is the plot, or well, lack of one. There are too many different themes in that movie, to the point to where the plot loses its purpose altogether by the end. That was really the only thing I didn't particularly like about it

There is a Disney bias at the Oscars, because they don't watch the animated films and just award the Disney movie because they assume it'll be great just because its Disney, when Dreamworks often makes better movies. Not one How to Train your Dragon film won an Oscar even though they were better than the Disney movies that beat them.

DreamWorks has surpassed Disney in quality the same way Don Bluth's animated films surpassed Disney's in the 1980s. Fittingly, both animation studios rose to the top after their heads (Bluth and Katzenberg) left Disney to start their own company.
