- To me- the Bekah is the most surprising weapon in the game, with the Pimpernel being a close second.
The Bekah is surprising because most assault rifles are underwhelming, the other Jakobs pearlescents suck, and the card doesn't reveal its true power.
The Bekah is a Pearlescent Assault Rifle from the second Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack, which includes Digistruct Peak and overpower levels.
Jakobs is a family. Dahl is a military. Hyperion is a company. Maliwan is a company. Vladof are russians.
Bandit is bandit.

The infinity was the most surprising weapon for me, I thought it was shit but then i one shot op 9 terra with a level 1 version. I don't use it anymore because being that op ruins the game for me tbh

Yo Luke, this Elephant Gun talk made me think for a moment:
I think that people who defend the Elephant Gun are also the people who dislike OP levels (or just whole UVHM). Elephant Gun definitely works well in normal mode and TVHM (you can probably oneshot most things with a crit on any character with it) and that's what those people play. Elephant Gun works for them, so they will defend it.
The statement "Elephant Gun is undeniably bad" is not exactly something I would agree with.
"Elephant Gun is undeniably bad in UVHM" - now that's a statement that I can fully support.
Also, I can understand why someone would go back to OP0 with an OP8 Elephant Gun - some people like the old-school "1 headshot - 1 kill" style, which is not really achieveable in OP8 (or at least not without special Pimpernel tactics/high number of CA stacks/full deception shot with a 1st hit bonus AND having the target slagged). Using an OP8 EleGun in OP0 would give them exactly that and without tuning the difficulty level of the game to very low, which playing in normal mode/TVHM would do.
Actually, now that I think about it... I'm not sure if you can oneshot in OP0 with OP8 EleGun, but I hope you get my point. League of Legends has taught me that casual players percieve different things as good/bad than the long time veteran experienced players.

There has to be a standard for what is good. If the standard is so low as “anything that can get a kill in normal mode” then every weapon is good and good vs bad just becomes meaningless
Also you can absolutely make a one shot one kill sniper build with Zer0 without abusing critical ascension or Deception. Amigo Sincero+Legendary Sniper Com+Aggression Relic boosting sniper damage (or even better, the e tech version that also increases fight for your life time and second wind health)+bee shield. That should do it. Probably won’t even have to slag non boss enemies
My pick would be The Longbow. A sniper rifle without a scope so I thought for sure it would suck but once I got the hang of it it became one of my most favorite weapons. Would 2nd the Blockhead as well. I know there are more powerful shotguns but I always find myself going back to it.

I'd say the most surprising weapon is a legendary Tediore shotgun called Gentle Deliverance. You know how when you reload Tediore weapons, you throw the gun, and it explodes, right? Well, when you throw Gentle Deliverance it slowly flies around in the air. If there's an enemy near you, it kinda works like a homing missile on that enemy; it flies towards the enemy until it makes contact and explodes. If the enemy is standing still, it circles the enemy until it moves. But here's the absolute BEST part: If you throw the gun when there's still ammo left, not only does it home in on enemies, but it shoots all the bullets that were in the gun at the enemy AS it travels towards the enemy. Once the enemy dies, it travels towards another enemy and shoots until it runs out of ammo, in which case it returns to its normal homing missile function.
The gun shoots for you bro. Its great for rakks, or large crowds. It has 6 bullets, so just shoot one and reload and it flies around and does the killing for you. You can have like three of these things in the sky at once. They're like mini fighter jets. Seruiously look them up. Just because of that gun i invested in using eridium for increasing shotgun ammo capacity.

I find the Fibber the most surprising weapon in the game, from the stats you dont know what to expect and depending on what barrel you get it can be very powerful or completely useless.

DP Torgue Pistol = 2 pellets
DP UH = maximum of 24 pellets

The Florentine shoots two elements, one of which is slag. i thought it wouldn't be good because the other is shock but this gun alone is proof of how OP slag is on UVHM
The Butcher. essentially, a shotgun with SMG level of fire rate and every now and then, doesn't consume ammo. this thing melts everything
I might be wrong, but the Florentine kind of reminds me of how the Hyperion Pearl Nemesis Pistol sort of functions in BL1, where corrosive and shock both melt the enemy because corrosive element functions like slag in the sequel. It kind of reminds me of that.

I think one thing that would make the elephant gun interesting is if they added a damage buff to animal type enemies like bullymong son of crawmerax and the monsters from the big game hunt.

Haha! 3 years later! I just started back playing this game again as Axton and I use this gun religiously. The only time I switch from it is when an enemy (i.e. Armored Psycho) get's too close and I just use either the Conference Call or Moxxi's Heartbreaker for a non-armored.

I’ve been thinking of making a bl1 mod that adds legendaries as well as pearlescent items from other games into bl1. I would also make legendary shields, grenade mods, and some more class mods to spice up each characters options. Also put back the dove hornet hybrid and change the friendly fire carnage barrel to actually do fire damage. In bl1 you don’t have to use the best weapons on any specific character to succeed I use a double anarchy, sniper, fire shotgun, and revolver on brick and does just fine with the 60% damage bonus kill skill and another I think 60% fire rate increase as well.

You have truly changed my opinion on this game a lot.
For most surprising GRENADE in the game, I would have to say the chain lightning. The insane amount of uses for it make it extremely practical, and the fact that it came in the final campaign dlc was a surprise. In terms of guns, I also feel the bekkah is incredible, especially compared to some other assault rifles in the game.
I find it ironic that Jakobs and Hyperion, the same manufacturers that made the best Pearlescents in Borderlands 1 (The Bessie sniper rifle and Nemesis pistol) happened to make the weapons that redeem the rarity in Borderlands 2. (The Bekah rifle and Butcher shotgun) Just something to consider.
I like the Bitch, no one talks about it but I feel that after my usage that it's an amazing smg, it's not like a sandhawk+bee but it's pretty good with high accuracy, high damage, and high fire rate
i always liked how you never incorporated obnoxious amount of grog nozzle into your builds in BL2
I always thought the Elephant gun was very underwhelming in Borderlands1.
I have not played a character pass 50 yet...just bought the dlc to do just that. So I have not had the chance to experience higher level legendary weapons yet.
But for a first play through, and even in TVHM, I've found a few surprisingly good weapons. The Hellfire did a good job for an extended period, but the one weapon that I would come to rely on is the Volcano in various permutations. Playing as Zero, and taking advantage of his skill tree, fit very well with Volcano.
I know there are much better legendary weapons that I have gotten yet, but I was quite surprised how a Volcano, with decent bonus specs and effects, would allow me to blaze thru most enemies for and continue to be a viable weapon as I leveled up.
I'm sure I'll be saying something different as I go beyond the level caps
For the most surprising was either the tattler or the lady fist.
I am a huge fan of the Ogre, I'm not sure how it measure up against the Bekah as I have never gotten a Bekah to drop. That said, The ogre is a great weapon.

Hmm, maybe the Slagga? I'm not a fan of Bandit SMGs, so for the Slagga to actually put out some decent damage along with a high slag chance was surprising to me.

Why Would Its a very devastating weapon if using a bee and even without it, puts out some decent damage. It also has a very high chance to slag. Definently one of my favorite SMG's of the game.
Why Would It has good damage, great fire rate with the accelerated accessory, and a high chance to Slag enemies, and being able to shoot 3 bullets for the cost of 1.
I get the Maggie too, I just get the Slagga first then on my second playthrough I grab the Maggie.
Baron Ockslite Well yeah, the only two good weapons in the game are the DPUH and the Grog Nozzle, any other weapons and play styles are completely wrong and need to be taken out of the game.
the unforgiven is another suprising wepon low fire rate for jakobs and low damage but a 200% crit modifire and useing maya with it its amazing
Not sure how much weapons changed from BL2 to TPS, but when i found a Jacobs assault rifle i thought it would suck for sure, but then i checked it's dps with the hammer buster, and after experimenting with gibbed, i realized that the purple rarity Jacobs Gatling gun was extremely powerful, if you think im lying try it out with the "boss" prefix. It beats most other legendary assault rifles completely

I can't remember the name, but my most surprising weapon was a blue Dahl assault rifle that fired three rounds per shot. That combined with it's three round burst killed everything.

the sandhawk was the most surprising for me. I finished the quest and looked at the guns stats and thought it was just another useless quest reward but then I shot.

the best assult rifles for kreig are
Hellborn= Kitten. the massive fire rate and elimental bombardment make it so you will always be on fire and can heal from it + it is a moxxy gun, so you get health on kill
Bloodlust= Ogre or kerblaster. the ogre has massive fire rate, and if you have a gunzerker running hoarder, yes. The kerblaster can add to explosions and can more easily start them, personally I don't like the tree but these tips can help

I think the DPUH (or just UH in general) surprised me when I found it for the first time. I didn't really know much about red text weapons back then so I thought it was just some weird Torgue pistol. Turns out it shoots a lot of pellets.
so many legendaries and pearcents and paerls or whatever they called... i play for a LONG time i don't even have 5% of those weapons...
Eventually, people run out of patience and even the uploader of this video decided to just start using a save editor because it's stupidly time wasting to grind for the guns.

elephant gun off of 2nd playthrough of original borderlands was my fave quest gun. i loved to go to the zombie dlc map and blast some heads off with it. some guns are just fun to use and feel very fluid. those homing x9 x10 grenades are ridiculous too lmao
nothing is more surprising when you 1st see it is .... the fibber ... everyone in my crew tossed it but me and when i figured out you needed to ricochet the bullets .. holy shit
The Godfinger was only bad because it mimics some of Zero's skills like Bore... On Zero you won't notice the bonuses but on any other character you can see all of its effects

Funny you should talk about the two Moxxi assault rifles and ignore one of the legendary Dahl rifles. I've been doing a Commando run, and I was using a Veruc for 8 levels (22 - 30), which is astonishingly good, given that it was a level 20 weapon.

I know the Bee shield makes most weapons insanely powerful already... but, the Bee shield with the *Bekah*? Jesus frickin' tapdancing Christ.
Bekah's most viable for characters/builds that enhance crits and opportunities to get crits. Mainly Zer0, Maya.
For other characters focused more on pure DPS, it's not a great choice. But that's true for nearly all assault-rifles, of course.
I prefer to use the stability prefix on the bekah since that allows me to get more crits if i need to do longer sprays for example when dealing with badasses. Just an idea :)

You know... this is one of the extremely few times that I disagree with you at least in part. Here is why: The bekah sure is strong there is no deny that, but to say that it is the most powerful (or the best in general) assault rifle, I think it is a stretch. Fire rate is good, damage is good, but for me I find more of a revelation (maybe because of my playstyle) the Ogre with its explosive rounds and accelerating rates, it is a great option for those shielded enemies and stuff, without having to worry so much for scoring only critical hits. Also the bullet speed and moment of impact seems differed. So, bottom line, I think this weapon may be effective for your Zero play style, but not overall necesarily the strongest of rifles.
+Jdx Omega If you're using hellborn Krieg the hail or the kitten are better, if you're Axton the Kerblaster is, and if you're playing Salvador the Bekah is not that good because you can't zoom in during gunzerker. So again, I think it's better for Zero but not overall the absolute best.

My pick would be the flakker. I was so surprised when I got it as my warrior drop I almost chucked my controller.
Ive never really found a good assault rifle, witch is why shotguns became my favorite, the interfacer is especially good for crit spamming
For me, probably the Tattler. It's the second best SMG in the game, and can outperform a Sandhawk when not using the Bee.
Shrevident imo it can actually be better than the Sandhawk in situations where you cant get far enough away from enemies to hit all 8 Sandhawk pellets. Regardless, both are amazing, and the Tattler is definitley the most ammo-efficient smg in the game.
Another reason why the Pirate campaign is my favorite dlc--great gear that is very easy to get.

In the Elephant Gun's defense, the worst gun in the game is most definitely the first Jakobs Shotgun.
Inconceivable, filled to the brim( one more bullet), 5 shots or 6, a lot of fire Rate skills and money shot, I haven't tested it but seems like a cool idea
i use the hammer duster over the bekah. it’s a good weapon, but the extra pellets tend to miss at long distance if the enemy is being evasive
Well, despite me being able to deny any of your claims, the way you present them (as undeniable thruths) kinda jabs me in a bad way. I am convinced there is no bad way of playing this awesome game. Every player will have his or her own playing style with accomodating guns, denying that would (imho) be foolish. Having said that, slightly negative perhaps, I do admire anyone who has looked up stats for in-game weaponry and made comparisons for us all to observe and learn. I find the Kitten to an extremely good gun, great for Bore on hyperius and the bunker and is just good all around

All the times I've played, I've seen plenty of l72 commandos, sirens and mechromancers, a few l72 gunzerks and psychos, but never a l72 number, in fact I've never even seen a l50 number.

What skin are you using?
The Twister is certainly one. My other unsung hero, is rare, but not in color. It is the Dahl Minigun (has a Vladof spin-barrel). Elemental pref. Places nine shots in prob the tightest pattern I have ever seen on a BL game. Technically not as one shot one kill, because of the nine bullets per trigger pull, but, usually kills whatever it hits. Using it as a hip-fire weapon, is ok, certainly not great, It has to be ADS in order to get the 9-buololets of course. It can be a bit bad on ammo consumption, and the clip should be a larger I think, but, still, for a non-special weapon, is pretty good. It is also useful in the Pre-Sequel. Bekah, mini-gun, & the Ogre. Only assault rifles really worth using IMO.

Most surprising gun for me is the lady fist... I can wreck the bunker at lv 28 with it its around 7 shots... Also my favorite gun is the butcher... My gunzerker is over powered period. I use butcher normal with a slag butcher. I have extra shot chances and free fire chances with money shot one time i had 20 seconds of moneyshot with te butcher because it was adding 2 bullets back when i was at the last shot. It was hilarious i killed all the raid bosses with the combo.
What a bout most Diverse Weapon in BL2. i.e. What weapon could be used effectively by all classes, while still being fun and useful.

I have a question about Zero's Deception.
When I use Deception while I'm scoped, I go invisible immediately and the clone goes out immediately without the needless animation where Zero moves his hands in a weird fashion at the beginning. I kind of exploit this by scoping for a fraction of a second and use Deception during that timeframe to stealth instantly.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one and I have some weird glitch on my BL2, because I haven't seen anyone else ever do it. I'm really curious if anyone else can do this because I feel like people would've found this out by now since the game's been out for over 2 years...
But when I do it, I stealth immediately and can use my grenade/kunai immediately without waiting for the hand motion thing to end. It also doesn't decrease the duration of Deception from what I've seen. It doesn't make Innervate start any quicker from what I've seen, though, since Innervate starts from the beginning of the handmotion thing.

Have you ever tried a Zer0 build with 100% double shot chance? Just use a Legendary Killer mod and the Shadow of the Seraphs, you have a 97% chance to fire twice, giving you a very strong fire rate.
Parker McFarlen The Shadow of the Seraphs can be fun for novelty, but the cooldown rate is invaluable on Zer0.

It's a thing where you are maxed out on level 72, but then there is these things called OP levels where the enemies are a higher level then you, but so are the guns. Th max OP level is OP8 where all enemies are 8 levels above you, but so are the guns. So that's why his guns are doing so much damage.

If you have Execute anyway, you can use it to smack an enemy into a favourable position and, regardless of whether there is a good place to put them, buy some time to unload rounds into their face. When you hit them from the front, in particular, you get a clear shot at their head with a few seconds to fire at it before they exit their sliding animation and begin to return fire. Is there a particular reason you don't use this tactic? It wouldn't really interfere with showcasing a weapon any more than decepti0n boosting or slagging with a Pimpernel (which often kills or at least brutally maims the target to the point of nullifying the need to use whatever gun you are demonstrating).
In any case, I think jerks like Rouf are begging to be pinned with an Execute smack. Pushing an enemy up against a wall and unloading Bee boosted Harold rounds into their face, their inability to counter attack being requisite for the Bee, was one of my facourite ways to kill marauders in Lynchwood. You know, back when I actually used pistols.
On a tangent, I saw your commentary on the Elephant Gun and it definitely looks like trash by normal standards, but guns with low fire rates like that can become tolerable or even powerful if you don't mind using the double shot glitch, or just simple swapping of weapons, to work around the poor fire rates. Similarly, you can quickly drop and catch a weapon to negate reload times. It's not something you should HAVE to do, but in the spirit of enjoying the game it can widen your array of interesting weapon choices. Interestingly, dropping and picking up a Badaboom to reload it quickly seems to make my Grog Nozzle inebriate me more often, greatly improving the efficiency of my rocket jumping.
