The most overrated weapon in Borderlands 2, in my mind, is the Florentine. The Florentine is the Seraph Maliwan SMG from the fourth campaign DLC, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep.
This weapon is recommended almost incessantly as a necessary item for nearly every character, especially Maya. Dealing both Shock and Slag damage it is recommended for utility, primarily- but I do see people using it as a primary weapon.
Even as a utility weapon, I consider it to be very ineffective and unnecessary with most, if not all, characters. Its most significant use is with Krieg, where I find that even then it is an inferior option to a purely slag weapon.
The Florentine is a weapon that sounds extremely useful, but that I find to be prohibitive of reaching maximum practical potential. This is due mainly to the fact that shock is a fairly ineffective element with a useless boost due to the rarity and low capacity of enemy shields.
I consider the Florentine to be the most overrated weapon in the game.
What is your pick for most overrated weapon?
Maybe its more about availability. Florentine can be reliably purchased. It might not be the absolute best but it is recommendable because it is not as dependent on RNG to acquire.

I've used the Florentine to great effect on Melee Krieg. It helps strip shields AND slags them, which is two less things I need to worry about playing as Melee Krieg. Mayas Cat class could make good use of it if used correctly, and shock Gaige can use it...but I have found that class to be pretty useless. but generally I tend to agree that it isn't that useful on most classes

Dｅmｏnｉtｅ I personally use an Axton build that calls for Florentine. If I remember correctly the splash damage that Plasma Casters give off benefits from Axton's grenade bonuses, so it actually has some stopping power alongside the slag utility. I do agree, however, that Florentine is largely outclassed by other guns if all you want is slagging power.

PyroIceBolt That grenade damage that you're boosting on a Florentine is the worst element you could ever use for damage - Slag. Axton doesn't have much trouble slagging enemies even without any slag weapons, so any slag damage dealt with a weapon is a massive damage loss.

I do really enjoy the Florentine a lot though. Mostly for the slag and shield stripping that it can do simultaneously. Being said, I usually end up using a slag pimpernel or transfusion grenade in Maya because it's more effective, but I see the Florentine as a viable utility, if anything. It's not an effective killer.

I know this comment really has not much place on this video, but I was getting a little bored of bl2 after years of playing and you inspired me to try a zer0 melee build. I have never had so much fun playing a game in my life.
Play as a Krueger melee build.It will be terrible at first but once you get release the beast you're able to kill anything that's 10 levels above you and under.

Most overrated: DPUH. It is actually a very good weapon, but it does not deserve it's near-deified status.

Range: B-tier
Damage: S-tier
FFYL effectiveness: A-tier
People insist those are all A+ rank (most act like they're all S-tier), except sometimes ammo consumption is acknowledged as an issue. Salvador can minimize several of these issues, but since he can mitigate or eliminate *most* weapon/gear shortcomings, that's not really a good comparison. Zer0 and Maya actually have more issues because of bullet speed increases.
Again, it's a strong weapon. Just not the end-all, be-all everyone seems to say it is.

Joshua Caswell He's said he doesn't understand why people thought he would think the Shredifier sucks, and he destroyed washburne with it. Also the Flakker can be used to great effect if you know how to use it despite how much hate.

I believe the reason this gun is so highly recommended for most characters in the game is due to it being a good all around weapon it does damage not the best but still good damage, its easy to get given you have crystals for it so not much rng in finding a solid weapon that is versatile. While i think its a good gun its not the best gun but defiantly something for a player whos interested in multi elemental gun that slags, maybe for a axton or gaige player looking for a form of slag that has some dps. I don't spend time looking at forums I've just recently started looking at videos on good guns that i can farm and add to my collection squeezing out that little bit more out of this game so maybe theres something I'm missing out on but i would basically say this is a gun you might want to try on all characters and see if you like it. Not top tier but a strong B
Was just using this on Gaige. I hate best/worst/under and over rated lists on Borderlands. It depends on so much. The character, build, there are so many variables. Especially the way you test stuff. Throwing a grenade at every single enemy you kill... I've seen you play melee Zer0, i know you don't play like a grandpa all the time, so why test like it? This gun absolutely destroys on LBT Gaige. And not having to throw grenades or switch weapons to slag, adds to DPS significantly.
Getting back into BL2 again. Probably have gotten 50 characters to OP8 legit across 3 platforms. These lists (opinions) are such a big reason why i see new players constantly asking for black rarity weapons. 70% of the ppl that play BL2, don't know how to play BL2

LBT Gaige is terrible.
Chargeresque someday you'll learn about multiplicative and additive damage. and stopping to switch weapons and BoTA just isnt viable all the time. that being said i rarely build lbt. not even for twister. but to say basically adding an extra shock bone with WDT is terrible, is just stupid. besides most of her skill tree is trash anyway. wtf else you gonna take?

Why did the florentine ever gain its status in the first place (damage/slag wise)? I used it on an explosive kreig and maya and made me wish I was using a fire or corrosive plasma caster instead. Shields never give me trouble anyways @ 72. (I'm a filthy casual, I know)

It's a crutch for people that don't want to slag and swap, and don't want to use slagging skills. It's like the Infinity, a mediocre weapon that takes no thought to use.

Speaking as a guy who plays a decent amount of melee krieg, this thing is actually useless for that build. Slag pimp is infinitely more helpful, as are slag singularities. Use those two if you want a slag option on a melee krieg set up. I prefer the slag singularities, given Krieg's disposition towards explosives.
Best part was in the second room of the bloodshot stronghold as everyone is screaming in agony and he's just quietly talking about the weapon
I think the Florentine's best use would be for Gaige built for shock (just for fun) since she has no inherent way to slag enemies.
It has its uses, but after seeing this video it most certainly isn't for Maya. One reason to get the Florentine though is simply because of how often it's available it is in the seraph shop. Though after getting that many seraph crystals to purchase it you're likely to have some amazing (and better) gear from the raid bosses you've killed. The other reason being that it's slag chance may not be great per shot, but it's fire rate and magazine size together make it decent for slagging while its shock damage and DoT keeps it from losing power compared to other slag SMGs. However, the fact you can only obtain it by spending seraph crystals makes it a huge turn-off in my opinion. Regardless, informative video and nice job.
The florentine is not meant to do more damage than other shock weapons or to be better at slagging than other slag weapons i also dont see a point in combining it with a shock bone
For me the florentine is simply a slagging tool that strips shields or at least severely damages them at thr same time so you can than switch to a matching element weapon with matching bone to deal effective damage immeadeatly instead of having to first get through the resisting shield
Also it deals enough damage that in an emergency you can kill directly with your slag weapon instead of having to switch first
I like using it on axton on turret downtime when they cant slag enemies for me
I am reminded now of a time I turned down a Florentine someone wanted to give me, which was gibbed to max, precisely because I remembered trying it and being disappointed (although I hate people trying to give me gear or ask me for dupes to begin with). I had forgotten what weapon it was which I considered to be as poor to me as the Infinity. As of recently, I've been reminded (after giving it another chance) that the Infinity can in fact be useful at times, albeit possibly not the best choice. At least for Vermivorous, having infinite ammo can be nice, but the Florentine? Please.
Shame, too, as it was the weapon I was most excited to see when I first heard about the Tina DLC.

So, i've got perfect parts Florentine five days ago. And solid but not perfect shock Maliwan Plasma Caster. Both lvl 80.
I play Maya lvl 80 Subsequence/Legendary Cat/3SMG-Lyuda build. SMG for every element.
I was kinda agree with most of your thoughts in your video. But
I now use Florentine as main shock SMG.
Because:
Fight for your life and Immolate skill. It saves.
The same principle as slag PBFG or Norfleet or something.
Slag of Florentine just multiply Immolate bonus and you easy save your life.
But it's not as useless as slag PBFG or such rocket launchers expensive ammo, low ammo etc. etc. just slot taking for second wind.
Florentine is not just "slot taking". Particularly, this Florentine even slightly out DPS my not best part Maliwan Shock Plasma Caster. you now, Impetuos firerate prefix and that's all.
Maybe I'll farm better part shock Plasma Caster or even hyperion one. and than Florentine will go to backpack maybe. but now. Fight For Your Life, slightly better DPS so...

Most overrated weapon is probably grog. Yes, it has it's uses, but I swear a lot of people can't play without it. Also, my Maya build is very similar to what's shown here. Except mine was more of a "challenge to myself" kind of build because I got tired of playing with friends who wouldn't shoot anything unless it was phaselocked. So I focused more on scorn and used a melee override cooldown relic. That combined with life tap was more than enough for me to go through entire maps without using phaselock at all.
Burning Sharknado If you're not using Phaselock on a character that encourages and uses Phaselock, why use Maya at all? Might as well play Salvador.
Sal doesn't have access to scorn, and Maya is arguably the most balanced character in the game. Plus there is so much more to Maya than just Phaselock. I just don't see any skill or fun in shooting fish in a barrel for 80 levels of play.
Burning Sharknado I agree with you , grog overrated because you can always use the Rubi or others Moxxi guns. Some people think that without grog their build will not work.
Noah S No, overrate means to appraise too highly. In this case the Grog is exactly overrated, just because it's good doesn't mean that it can't be overrated.

The best sustain in the game? Not at all, at best it's a convenient way to heal. It's only the best on Salvador. On other characters transfusion grenades, Moxxi Weapons, and certain skills (Life Steal for example) are much better options.
I think the best user of this is a shock/dot Gaige, as she can use it alone to slag, electrocute, and burn flesh targets all at once. And considering how shock dots have fewer but stronger ticks, and electrical burn causes the burn effect to be based on her electrocute damage, she's actually getting a really powerful burn on them. Especially with a legendary catalyst mod making her have a 30% multiplicative effect from WDT. On anyone else though, I agree, it's not a great gun.
I actually do use the florentine as a second wind weapon along with norfleet. my Maya is also a shock build, and since I can't use phaselock or grenades while in crippled state, I don't have any other means of slag. florentine not only slags, but also deals additional damage with the shock status effect to then set up for a norfleet (or any other weapon if I'm out of rockets) kill for second winding. I would say that combo is good enough when trying to get a second wind off of bulkier enemies.
i used florentine in tiny tina's assault dragon keep standalone. you can get seraph crystals in normal mode in that stadalone even from pixies.
florentine in normal mode when your level is not enough to have ruin is much more powerful option than most of other smgs. it rocks in normal mode.
in borderlands 2 you have better option to spend your seraph crystals for example antagonist shield.
it is still good shock weapon and beautifully looked fantastic design.
you compared it to shock plasma caster one of the strongest smg in the game. and it yes, weaker but it still strong.
maybe it should be easier to get in normal mode weapon this will make sense.

You should do a challenge where you do a play through and can only use a gun for a period of time then you swop it for the verry next gun you see

I think Gaige likes the Florentine for three reasons: She has only one slagging skill, and it's unreliable; she doesn't have swap speed on her skill tree; and she can boost its damage more than a number of other characters
There may be better options, but those factors do help the "Florentine is good for Gaige" argument

I thought it was a good gun too for maya, but ive not used this with my krieg yet, I use a slagga with 5/5 in fuel the fire, 200% to slag, but im guessing it would be good with him since the 200% is definite slag, any slag type gun would be good for him really, but slagga is best for the crazy amount of ammo already in the mag size, and with either elemental elation or blood filled guns or both u can just keep firing for days, I also like that gun that slags the player too for krieg, not sure whats its called or the gun that randomly drops on the floor when reloading

I personally do not use the Florentine, on maya I have just played with butchers, pimpernels and plasma casters, on gaige I also play with butchers supplemented by norfleets, on zer0 I play with lyudas, pimpernels and the bekah, the Florentine doesn't really fit when there are options like slag grenades, and kunai, sorry if i'm already echoing popular opinion but that's my 2 cents
I play sal with dpuh, grog nozzle and infinity. just use the dpuh until you run out of ammo. switch to the infinity and regenerate ammo. works quite well (:
It would be fun to give Salvador the Florentine and pair it with a Hyperion Corrosive SMG, go into Gunzerker Mode and deal quite a lot of shock corrosive damage with the goodness of slag
I've never personally used the florentine, since I play mostly solo and don't really do raid bosses seraph items aren't really an option for me, but the florentine is one of the guns I want to try on my Gaige, mainly because I could see it working well. Especially since I spec fairly heavily into little big trouble, so the combo of slag and shock seems like it would be more effective. Maybe I'm wrong but that's where I'd be interested in seeing it play.
Actually, the florentine has grenade damage, so if you use an axton with multiple nade buffs, this gun is really powerful
But so do plasma casters which, as he showed, can do more damage
I think the Infinity Pistol was really good when the game first came out. But after the level increases and especially the OP levels I just didn't scale well and just fell to the wayside.
The usefuless of the florentine is not its pure DPS output, UVHM is all about combinations to make otherwise unbeatable enemies managable, and all enemies become overlysensitive or overly resistant to elements in UVHM,( example: fire damage against shields is like one tenth as powerful as using a shock weapon against a shield) and the real objective is an enemies health, which will be sensitive to either corrosive or fire( unless Im forgetting some type of enemy vulnerable to shock) and seconds are preciouse in UVHM because slag only last so long and even with the best situation wepaon, kills are sometimes not instant in the case of tankier enemies, so the florentine's real function is slagging and diminishing shields, its an enemy softener, in one, rather than having to slag and waste extra fire or corrosive bullets against an enemy with a particularly strong shield, you can wittle down its shield AND slag it at the same time to go over to the main damage, which is generally corrosive or fire ( explosives does all around good damage with the right build and sort of eliminates the need for other elements on say Krieg or Axton, which is why I am not bringing explosive into the mix) instead of having to slag, waste the slagg effect on the shields to slag again, and then go to the real element you need. So id say that you might have lost sight of that in your review, especially since Builds take a HUGE part also in determining if the weapon is "good" or "bad" for your character, like if you didnt spec axton for explosive damage, and put your points into random skills, saying he is great with the ogre, DPUH, or the Swordsplosion will sound ridiculouse and absurd, just like if you build krieg for his fire build and tried using explosives it may not seem as effective as you read online.

Well.... Maya is obviously noone who would ever need a slag weapon if she has ruin and scorn but on other characters? Axton can benefit heavily from it, on the one hand he has got the swap speed and on the other hand his only slag options are weapons and grenades and since he can boost his grenade damage it would be a better choice to invest into grenades that are meant to deal damage(for example the fastball), not to slag. It is somewhat superior to the slagga because of its way better raw damage and the shock damage, If you encounter an enemy with a strong shield you can just keep the Florentine out and strap his shield and leaving him slagged before switching to a fire or corrosive weapon to finish the job, while without it you had to slag him first, then swap to a weapon that does actual damage and is shock strap the shield, always having to change back every few seconds to keep the enemy slagged and then finally to the killing weapon.
Yes the florentine is overrated IF you bring a shock tesla, and have ways to slag in your build. Thing is, with florentine on maya, you don't need a shock grenade, on any other character you don't need a shock weapon or a slag option, you can just use flrentine cause it can do both. You can stock up on more versatile weapons because 1 weapon is covering 2 elements.
How about using it in a shock based Gaige build?
For me, the infinity is only good for 2 situations: to complete all the quests in normal mode, and critical hits on bloodwings head for badass rank.

Actually, Infinity is *more* useful on other characters. With a pair of them and Sal's 'Keep Firing', the fire-rate buff can become debilitating. Or as Maya in the blue tree with infinite healing for everyone. Even my Axton can make admirable use of it, by virtue of sheer continuous damage output, especially with The Bee. It's highly rated because it deserves that rating. Reloading is a downside to everything, so having this around is like a godsend in itself.
I never heard people say Florentine, it was always Grog Nozzle.
I think that the slagga would be a better weapon for slaging and a slag tattler would be best for damage and slaging. So ya some better options for slaging

Almost nobody talks about, neither USES it. This shotgun does chew through ammo quite quickly, but the HIGH AS HELL DPS potential makes up for it.
Ok while i am not saying you should use a infinity all the time, i am saying that a fire infinity as gunzerker is good if you are going for a fire rate build, reason for this is most of the time im gunzerking i am spending too much reloading that said thast is just to keep consistant damage up that is all, the infinity is a good weapon for this especially if you go down the middle gunzerk tree.

Florentines op if your trying to just compare the shock damage its going to be underwhelming but the whole point of the gun is to slag the enemy and as you briefly showed the slagged shock damage on your maya was 491k or so over all a pretty bad ass smg imo.

People in the comments are understanding what overrated means. It means it is getting more credit or liking than it deserves. The Harold is not overrated as it performs exceptionally well on any character. Florentine, gets so much credit. I only use it for discord looping Gaige. It's not as good as its hyped up to be.
Sir I see the problem with your Maya build for the Florentine, you must have the skill Cloud Kill in order to make it work. I am actually surprised that a veteran of the game wouldn't use such an over-powered skill such as Cloud Kill. Please try it again using Cloud Kill and I'm sure that the Florentine's ability in both crowd control and raid boss killing will go up. Thank you for listening kind sir.

I mean I can see it being decent with Fastball Krieg if you really wanted to get rid of shields, but Fastball Krieg doesn't really give a fuck about shields. In fact I'd prefer the reliability of the Slagga in those situations almost always anyways.

It's good for players that don't have all there skill points and they're skill points maybe spread out since they might not have a good setup.
Not everyone can play on OP level even if BL2 is old. I personally wouldn't use that smg on TVHM up.

Can't agree with this at all, I use this weapon to slag and strip shields and it's amazing at that, it's not the best at slagging the slagga is better for that and a shock PC is better for shields but that's two slots taken I'd rather use this, also I play maya and still use this for slag
i think the florentine is very useful , but im a krieg player. i rip through the slaughterdome in the tiny tina dlc very easy and the double element are making it very good.

Ehhh, yeah the gun I think does get too much credit, however it is fun on a gaige running electrical burn and just in general I’d rate it kind of like the Maggie on sal, good gun sure but more of a fun option to use when you wanna spice things up
It's pretty nice on Shock Gaige, but the regular Maliwan Plasma Caster is better. Although the Florentine looks sexy as hell. But I still don't get why people recommend this gun for Krieg, Zero, etc; makes no goddamn sense. I agreed with Osaka about the Lady Fist being extremely overrated.

would you please touch the subject of the "shock element" I find it rather satisfaying to use even if many people say it does less damage.

I melt enemies with Gaige while using Florentine on OP8 fairly quickly, this SMG maybe not the most powerful due it's damage being split between shock and slag but certainly not as useless as you trying to show it here.
is that the florentine or gaige? And would it be impossible to do it better with another weapon? He said solo you can kill enemies with it but that alone doesnt make it good, and thats why he made this video. He didnt say unusable, just that it wasnt the best and wasnt really worth a slot most of the time especially on maya.
When you said that it was an SMG I was assuming you were going to get the sandhawk because that in my opinion is much more over rated than the florentine, I've never seen a build that has a florentine ever. I would assume the best way of slagging an enemy would be like a magic missile or a grog or a Dahl/bandit bouncing grenade. I don't think that the florentine would be recommended for every character other then maya due to her cat coms that she gets.

The Florentine isn't a very good offensive weapon but it is very good at a supportive weapon. Support Gaige and Maya players can both Slag an enemy and strip their shields so stronger characters can finish them off. I have fond memories of just spam firing the Florentine with Gaige while my teammates kill the enemy, especially on 4 player Co-op when slag doesn't last very long.
it also fucks up Stalkers real quick. Nothing i hate more than those damn Stalkers

The Infinity is by-far one of my favorite guns on Maya. I used it almost exclusively through my first and most of my second play through. With the right build and a good Bee it's down right awesome.
“Good bee” any gun with the bee and a high firerate/unlisted projectiles is incredible with the bee. Ultimate vault hunter mode was balanced around the bee, of COURSE it’s good.
Srsly? Huh. I like to use it on gunzerker when mobbing and use it as primary slagger on shock gaige. (Plus I don't have slagga)

I feel that would be the unkempt harold because even though it is greatly powerful some people don't have aby fun with it like with salvador...i personally have fun with this weapon with my salvador but thats just me

ShadowKiller4523 I like the Flakker. Fun to play with, decently effective, and not completely useless like the Wanderlust. There is literally nothing special about the Wanderlust, it's just a worse Dart.
The reason why Flakker has received so much hate is that people don't know how to use it.

Oh, and if you play TPS, you don't even need skill. Just grab a Flakker and an Audacious Sapper COM and go to town. That's literally everything you'll ever need on an explosive Claptrap.
