Starting out our channel, one of our greatest fears was the possibility of what we’re doing affecting our child…and that day had come. This one got me in my feelings. The moment when Brian said “It’s exhausting defending who he is”
I felt that. Had a moment with a friend who had unwarranted opinions about people from our community and children. I appreciate the transparency from you both. Thank you so much! Continue to be the beautiful representation you are!

Whew, even seeing you type it out we had to take a moment and have another deep breath. We go through so many layers of struggles trying to justify the validity of our existence to others (even though we shouldn't have to). And it really is exhausting. That struggle makes us some of the most beautiful, layered and dynamic community though. As they say, God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers...we were divinely chosen to be the beautiful, game changing beings we are.
Happy to have been able to share this with our youtube family. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts! Much love Temujin! 💜

I’m a Gay parent, I from the start created a strong Gay positive foundation for my son ( He’s straight) . My son has a community of positive gay surrounding of people. I totally understand your what your going through. My son fortunately has not had a negative reaction cause of his Gay Dad . I was very conscious from the beginning that I would create a positive surrounding for him . I from the start told him there would be idiots saying dumb stuff. He’s 35 now and we have a great communication. God bless both you .
You can only control your inner circle unfortunately.
Your during a great Job .

This vlog really hit home for me. I’ve raised 3 sons who are now 20,21,22 so I’ve maneuvered elementary, middle school, high school and now college as an active single gay parent with sleep overs, drop offs, school events, etc. I’m in Atlanta and I could not disclose my lifestyle for the safety of my sons….i kept it private as it’s 2024 now but most folks will embrace and accept a black bank robber over a law abiding black gay man…it’s the harsh reality of being a black gay man; the perception of a black gay father is perplexing to most, rather than praise of a father who takes exceptional care of his sons…the perception remains vile, nasty and sexualized. Hence, this is why there are so many black gay men still in the closet hiding today….😢🙏🏾

First off, before we go any further, we gotta give it up to you for being an AMAZING example of a great black man and father! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us and our audience as well. In the same way we hope someone is comforted by us sharing our experience, we are learning and comforted by yours. It's crazy how we literally can be seen as the most terrible people even when stacked up against the worst that there is out there. And for what? Trying to be our best selves and sharing that love with those around us. The problems we face as black, gay men is a loooooong list. But alas, we persevere. We hope that since you've done the hardwork and seen your children off that you now find time to love on and pour into yourself just as much as you did them. We admire you and really appreciate your support. Sending our love! 💜

Most people don't have this negative views , it's a minority of awful people who embrace hate and negativity who can have negative views like that , and their opinions DONT MATTER unless you make it matter yourself . There are a lot of good , positive people in society who would applaud you , focus on the loving , positive people

Wow! This video is going to help more same gender people with teens than you think! I applaud you for presenting this issue and the manner in which you presented it. Thanks to Brian for being vulnerable and sharing his feelings. I cannot imagine how I would be if it were my child. BJ is blessed to have two very loving gay parents and he too should be applauded, along with his posse. And let me just say that Alec's action to reach out to BJ's besties mom was spot on. The way he conveyed his hope to her that there be no confusion or problem going forward was brilliant, and her response was refreshing. This is a wonderful video.

It’s the selfless transparency for me. Putting your raw emotions on display not just to share, but to prepare others who may be in similar situations. It’s like initiating a support group where experiences can be shared. Where insight can be given. Where even some advice can open up new ideas of how to successfully navigate through these unfamiliar and uncomfortable situations. Kudos to you for that. Alec is a crack up to me!!! He lets it be known in no uncertain terms that he don’t play about you, Brian. Like he’s got your back 100% ( and, of course, it’s obvious that you have his back as well)…. Oh, and when your son’s buddies showed up like, “ what, we got a problem here??!!!”, I was like, THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ BOUT!!!!! I loved that part, too. These kinda situations can bring out the worst, and the absolute best. Such is life.. Much love to you Guys.

I know this had to be heartbreaking for you both. You guys are handling things well. You have been honest and unapologetic. When you show others there is no shame in true love, and are upfront when asked, this is the best anyone could do. I think you handled this situation well. There is no rule book to being a parent, sometimes you just have to learn as you go. You guys are doing a great job. I think if your son were to want to bring any other friends over, you might insist on talking to the parents first before allowing any others to come over until you know where they stand but rest assured, BJ seems to be a good judge of character, when picking friends I don't think he would be friends with anyone that were bigots. Kudos to you both!

I’m 23 and a very single gay man, but as someone who does ultimately want children-this video is very much appreciated. Being on the receiving end of tormenting as a gay child, and ultimately a gay adult-I would never want my children to experience that as a result of who I am, but I also wouldn’t want to rob my child of the opportunity to have me as a parent, nor rob myself of the opportunity of having them as a child. In the same sense, BJ is privileged to have you two and vice-versa. I’m also a teacher (middle school, specifically) and while I have never had students with same-sex parents, on a daily basis I witness just how intentionally harsh children of that age-group can be. Thank you for the transparency, and I continue to wish you all the best.

This is a teachable moment for all involved, the school climate/culture could use a lesson on inclusion and acceptance, darn shame that this is still going on. You’ve brought BJ up wonderfully and the ignorance that’s in the world is crazy, be strong knowing that you have to be YOU without permission from anyone, their ignorance is theirs, BJ will be so much stronger because of you and Alec, the negative words are a learned behavior, children are taught the negativity that’s around. I was a Teacher for 42 years and had a no tolerance level for such things and incorporated inclusion in my curriculum, stay strong, much love to the Mazelins ❤️💪🏾

There are some tough lessons involved in passing on this knowledge, and sometimes lessons outside our control, but we hope that it only makes him a better man in the future. Dam Brian! 😢😢 As a parent I felt your pain. Don’t let anyone ruin the opportunity for you to have a great day, etc. It’s hard to live in this headspace all the time because we all have some concern about what people think of us, but at the end of the day, the choice is yours. If you’re living a life of love, support, respect and giving, you will achieve this more often. BUT REMEMBER ➡️ it’s NOT about YOU BEING PERFECT, it’s about the day being perfect for you. Continue to be the best parents you are. Kids these days are bullies. I hope BJ will not let that experience define him. I only hope things will get better for all of the kids & families dealing with this same situation.🙏🙏🙏

CAUTION: This is a LONG comment, but it needs to be seen.
    To Brian:
You were just showing your true feelings, and you have every right to feel the way you have. Based on what you show to us on how you are as a father, and a husband, you are doing the RIGHT thing and you are authentic. I myself can't say that I could relate to how you felt about this feeling of raising B.J. as a proud FATHER, as well as a PROUD husband to Alec. I don't have kids myself, but I had help raised my niece at birth as a PROUD uncle (or GUNCLE, if you may) and I can say that these kids (not all, but the ones who weren't RAISED and TAUGHT correctly by their parents or guardians, but by MAMMIES and DO-FOR-NOTHING N****S, and what they see on social media, it is a travesty and emergency because the future is at risk if they are the next to populate. You love your son, unconditionally, raising your son, and teaching and protecting B.J, as a PARENT is required to do. The world is polluted with the asinine of people (sometimes, family, friends, strangers, and workers), with the intention of staying in other folks business, and not taking care of their own. So what, that you're a black, gay male who has a son and a husband. As long as you are taking care of YOUR business, Brian, it is NOBODY else's say-so or cheap ass opinions are not valid. Keep raising B.J.to be the greatest that he can be and be happy- YOU deserve it.
    To Alec:
As a proud man yourself, and loving husband to Brian, I know you care, love and support B.J.100%. As a "stepfather" to him, you also have every right to feel the way you have. There could be many different outcomes of being a stepfather to a spouse's children: Good or bad. To the "parents/guardians"of the kids that seem very dumbfounded or just plain ignorant when it comes to same-sex families: Take your heads out of your own funky asses and LEARN about how life and those around you are not what YOU want it to be. YES, there are gay men and women who can marry in certain parts of the world. YES, there are same sex couples, who become parents. They are HUMANS too and are just living their lives without any negativity the best way they can. If you want to get offended or baffled by something, be outraged by women having multiple kids out of wedlock, be outraged at kids going to school to do everything else but get a education (possession of weapons, gang-affiliations, fighting with other kids or teachers), kids carjacking, robbing, etc...And that's just here in CHICAGO, where I reside). So Alec, you continue to be supportive for B.J. Brian, and yourself.
    To Brian Jr. "B.J.
I'm not sure you may actually see this but your dad's will let you know. It is sad how the world is filled with individuals who will not see eye-to eye on life itself. You having your dad who is married to another man, does not make anything less. You are loved by both, and you are growing up to become the great individual that you are. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. Your friends (and teachers) who were actually taught and raised up right, understands and don't tease or make an issue of you having two dads. Continue to be YOU and nobody but YOU.
I love you guys and you have made me smile since day one on CZcams. Continue to live in happiness and the haters will continue to envy you all. Love and Peace,
    Derrick Johnson

Thank you for powerfully sharing your story with us. I became emotional this morning hearing Brian speak. Particularly the part about being exhausted with always defending who you are or whom you love. I thought I was alone feeling that way.
To hear you share those same sentiments as it relate to being gay parents pulled on my heartstrings. I cannot begin to imagine what that must feel like not being a parent myself.
I was never a fan of a couple CZcams channels but I became a loyal subscriber because the two of you were so authentic and loving. It pains me to think that anyone could ever demonize your family because it looks different than others.

I am empathetic to the concerns you spoke about here, and can’t even imagine the worry you must feel from day to day. BUT thank God that the young people today are so much more open, accepting, and understanding. They are the ones who will truly shape this world for the better. BJ and the friends that stood up for him are proof of that.

This is your Fav. step cousin from Atlanta... Thank you for sharing this story and your feelings, that topic had to come up at some point of BJ's life as I had to have the same conversation with a few of my Newpher's and Their friends Parents. They were hesitant and did not want to have the talk about it but they were on the same football team and seen that I was as active as their parents. so, with that being said a few gathered together and told me they were like we don't like your lifestyle, but we do respect you for care for all the little fells as their other uncle/parent figure. also, they trussed me because when they could not make it to pick them up, I am waiting around or meet them somewhere with their child. but again, we needed this and I hope that the world gets better in understanding that the LGBTQ Community are not preying on the youth/ young adults we are here to uplift and uphold a standard.

You know it is the same for us honestly. We feel like when we started out we had so many things battling. Uncovering our own individual traumas with each other as well as with our audience, sharing our troubles with our immigration journey, and then the backlash of just being an out gay, black, couple publicly sharing out journey. In contrast, the last year has been one of ease, so much love, and we really developed this feeling or normalcy that we were loving. This really threw us for a loop though and caught us off guard we must admit. But as always we know we can call on the support of our community and share not only the good, but the bad times too with y'all. We continue to appreciate you guys more than you will ever know!

I am also grateful that your son has very real friends, times are truly changing. We are ALL evolving to be better people. I’m also proud of your husband for coming to your aid and texting the the sons friend parent. And, the feed back that came back from the parent. Everybody is becoming acceptable. I feel for BJ having to encounter such negativity while he shares his life with his classmates. I don't have kids, but i can imagine how difficult it can be having to advise a child about navigating such negative encounters based on the stereotypes and homophobia passed from other parents to their children. My heart goes out to you Brian & Alec. I agree Alec that it is encouraging that his friends stepped up for him so he wouldn't feel alone....Some things have changed, but attitudes and beliefs are difficult to overcome. I think keeping the conversation open and honest is a great tool toward at least understanding each other's point of view.

Brian and Alec, 1st so sorry to hear about BJ experience, yet happy to know he has friends who stood up for him. It saddens me that in 2024 people still find favor in pre-judging others! I am a mother of 7 amazing children (all adults now with children of their own) a firm believer in accepting people for who they are, not their race, lifestyles, or financial class! God loves us all, how small of us not to return that same love to! I've raised my children with these same values! I love that you reached out to BJ's best friend Mom, and she was receptive to opening a line of conversation. As you know, we parents can't always control what happens in other people's homes, but we can be open enough to listen, learn, and engage conversations to better understand! When we know better, we SHOULD do better! Alec and Brian, if you read nothing else in this message know this "BJ SEEMS LIKE SUCH A WELL-ROUNDED LOVING KID, SMART and KIND... SO IT'S OBVIOUS THAT SOMEONE IS DOING A GOOD JOB, KEEP DOING Y'ALL!" 💜♥️💛💚🏳️‍🌈

Oh, such an emotional topic! Brian, your video made me cry. It's so evident in prior episodes how much you both love BJ and how much he loves both of you. Things get complicated as a child becomes an adolescent. It's difficult for the parents as well as the child. I feel for the three of you. It seems that hatred, bigotry, and discrimination have been escalating in the last few years. Adding this to everything else you're dealing with can feel overwhelming. I send my thoughts and good energy to you and hope you'll be able to work through this. Keep love, communication, and inner strength and peace in your relationship with each other. You have so many people who love and support you. ❤

    • @frankvaldes4866
      @frankvaldes4866 Před 6 měsíci

Sorry, this has been weighing heavy on my mind tonight. You mentioned how discrimination is likely learned in the home. I'm a 62 year old gay man. My Dad grew up in NYC and was in the Navy in the late 50s. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA, for a short time and had an old car. When given leave, he drove 2 friends, 1 white, 1 black, back and forth from the base to NY. Once, while driving north, he stopped at a station to get gas. The attendant berated my Dad for having a black man in the car with him. My Dad yelled at this idiot, asking if he could see his friend was in a Navy uniform and fighting for the country?! He always told my brother and I the importance of acceptance of everyone, no matter what kind of job they have, what religion they are, what their racial background is, how old they are, or how educated they are, etc. He taught my brother and I correctly. He's no longer here but provided good foundations for us.

First and foremost I would like to say thank you guys sooo much for sharing this. I am a stepmom to an 8 year old son, in a lesbian relationship, raising him in South Florida. This was very real and formative when it comes to the possibilities of what LGBT parents have to endure. You guys are absolutely amazing parents and human beings and BJ is going to continue being the intelligent and respectable young man that he is. I honestly don’t understand what’s wrong with some people and why they don’t educate their kids that it’s okay to be different, idk maybe it’s because they aren’t educated. As always, I appreciate the vulnerability. Especially from you, Brian. I know that this wasn’t an easy topic to discuss. Firstly, I want to stress what great fathers the both of you are. BJ’s willingness to share your videos with others & to defend y’all from disrespect is a testament to how well you’ve raised him & how much love he has for you both. Brian, you aren’t doing anything wrong whatsoever as far as being your authentic self. The bigotry Black queer men experience is extremely exhausting & those who uphold it want us to be ashamed & embarrassed. You are doing just fine. Please take solace in that. BJ loves you. Alec loved you. And we are here for you as well. You aren’t in this alone. We’ll uplift & shield all of you as best as we can. ❤
