- Walt Disney was aware of the gap between himself and the persona he had created for public consumption. He told himself he was just the same regular guy that he had always been -- driving himself to the office everyday, getting his hair cut at the studio barber shop -- but the truth was, he wasn't just a regular guy.
"Walt Disney" premieres Sept. 14 & 15 at 9/8c on PBS American Experience.
Walt Disney was a shy, self-deprecating and insecure man in private but adopted a warm and outgoing public persona. He had high standards and high expectations of those with whom he worked, and for good reason. He was running one of the biggest and best-known companies in the world.
glad to hear Bambi's mother getting shot traumatized a whole generation. I thought it was just me. here I am 72 years old still crying like a child.

I'm 51 and Bambi didn't traumatized me. Yes I was sad but I knew what hunting was. And I don't like hunting but understand it is needed.

I mean Walt Disney still hired people who were African American, Jewish, etc. He really wasn't extremely racist for the time. Compared to any other Hollywood Studio at the time, the Walt Disney Studio probably had one of the better track records regarding race inequality, etc. Just because the Walt Disney Studio made a movie called "Song of the South" or a Mickey Mouse cartoon with blackface, does not mean everyone at the Walt Disney Studio is racist
Let me ask you all a question: Have you ever watched "Song of the South" ? The movie itself is not much different from "Gone with the Wind" or "To Kill a Mockingbird."
