  • BEHR PREMIUM PLUS PAINT AND PRIMER IN ONE | HOME DEPOT PAINT REVIEW
Paint and primer in one? Sounds too good to be true. A product that eliminates the need for a primer? I wanted to take a look at the widely talked about Behr Premium Plus Paint and Primer In One, because I've heard conflicting things about it. Is it as good as it's advertised to be? Is it worth the money? Let's put the spotlight on it, in this video!

Thank you James. This is a very informative video with many good points, especially for those of us who find the prices of the premium paint we’ve always used has risen to a rather ridiculous high. Since I’m looking at having to paint the entire interior of our new (to us) house the lower price is good to see!

I love refinishing furniture and pretty new to it. Have tried several products and it’s pretty confusing. Stumbled upon Behr paint & prime high gloss and was surprised to see how it transformed a beat up dinning set to look like new. Very nice product and good price. Little goes long way too. Leaves a perfect finish on wood surfaces. Very happy with it!!

I had that EXACT scenario happen with the paint + primer Behr paint. 90° outside in So. Cal. Paint in paint tray drying way too fast and then dealing with rolling over dried paint which ends up being rolled onto your roller and is a nightmare. New to the paint game and FINALLY figuring out why so many "boogers" end up in my paint and on the walls. Light bulb 💡 moment. Lesson learned hopefully now.

I've only painted my home once and we used Behr. We used satin finish in the kids bedroom and the bathrooms and it is very easy to wash. The living room we used eggshell and I find it harder to get the grime off the walls from all the kids fingerprints. We did two coats in every room and they looked great. The colour is wonderful (a light blue for most of it and pale honey for the kids room). We're repainting again with Behr, so we're priming because we're changing the colour to chic grey to sell the condo and this is my first time painting doors and trim with semi-gloss. I find the semi-gloss really easy to use and the finish looks great.

This is what I used in my kitchen a few months ago. We did Toasty Grey over Behr's Greenbelt 470D-6 with no issue at all. I was surprised. As a test we primed the wall with zinsser near the sink and I see no noticeable difference in how the primed vs unprimed walls look. The low VOCs which you didn't mention is also better for your health too! Another thing to add to this, the Greenbelt that was on the walls had no issue at all. It was painted probably 16 years ago and looked new. We might be selling our house and I thought green kitchen walls might not work too well. Now in our living room we used a dark red/orange color (sorry can't remember name right now) on top and it went on terribly. I'm not sure what happened to it.

Should there have been additional primer used first should I go get primer and prime with something else before continuing on where they left off?

I went back to the shop, and there was a lady there who told me NO!! I have to use a primer for new plywood, and I have to sand back the whole desk and to apply a primer then the paint, and now really I am confused and I need an answer. and if I can use any product on the top of this paint to prevent it from this stickiness and hand print stains without the need to sand and repeat the whole process again!! We never prime with another product- maybe because we're always painting over eggshell behr. The coverage is really good. One can does a bedroom and two cans more than cover a large living room/dining combo. We find it covers really, really well

I found some unmarked white paint in my new to me house that I think was Behr White (it's obvious the previous homeowners were big Home Depot fans, so I think it was Behr). I added Floetrol and the drying time was good - not too short. Might be worth a try for folks worried about open time.

    • @nfthach
      @nfthach Před 2 lety +2

Floetrol in general makes Behr and Valspar behave but won’t modify the body - it’s still a little runny. I got a little nervous using it in Ultra Spec 500 this past weekend - worked out well in the end.
I only add it to paint when it’s hot and/or sunny outside, a pro painter turned me onto that with Kelly-Moore products.

I bought paint and primer, flat, scuff defense. A nice paint, but I discovered really quick, that I definitely needed to prime. I've not painted my rooms in 8 years, and back then, I did prime before I painted. BUT, this time, I'm only going to spot prime some areas, and I've primed the trim, since it needed it. The walls are a light blue, and it is a darker blue that I'm painting over, so I'm confident that there will be full coverage. I've learned that you'll always have to put on two coats, even though the paint/primer may advertise that you need just one coat.

Behr is more assessable by it being in Home Depot. And the price point between behr and Benjamin Moore and Sherman Williams is huge. I wanted Benjamin Moore Revere pewter and Edgecomb Gray. But I needed two 5 gallons of both and the price was ridiculous. So I went with behr Cotten gray and halation. I do wish there where more videos on reviews on behr clots like there are on Benjamin Moore and Sherman Williams paint colors. I couldn’t find anything while I was paint shopping. I wanted reviews on different colors and what they go with and undertones. Even the best gray and Grage paint colors from behr. It’s living a entire customer base hanging dry that can’t find any research. I did I trial and error. I think I did good but I was extremely stressed out with no forum of reference.

I did and was impressed with the premium plus so much I have used it countless times on my personal homes. I replaced BM with this, it goes on better, holds color better and holds up over the years. I wanted to change the exterior of my home and had limited time so chose this. I applied back in 2014 and just now showing signs of failure after 10 New England seasons. This is an excellent paint for the money, IMO better than BM and on par with SW. Hey, thanks for reaching out. You can paint over an oil-based primer with latex with the proper preparation. If you apply latex paint over an oil-based primer without preparing the surface first, the paint will not stick properly and will likely crack or peel. So, you might need a bonding primer, a product like Stix for example. Hope that helps!

The manager of SW was calling me to go and do business with them, I tried, I bought the super paint, I was not pleased, I decided on the emerald, and the same thing. The quality is not great at all, to be honest. I'm going back to Berh paint, I am a painter.

I have Glidden paint, cool slate, in the bathroom. When I did a light sanding, the paint peeled and made the spot bigger, so I used Kilz Primer (spackle to smooth the enlarged spot), then I sanded and painted the area.
In another bathroom, I noticed a pucker near the ceiling, whereas paint didn’t adhere well in the corner, so I used ready mixed Joint Compound, sanded it, and the newly applied paint appears to adhere. Fast Dex would have worked as well.

TBH - I’ve been too spoiled by Kelly-Moore(a local paint brand to California and Texas) and Ben Moore when it comes to paint, I’m no pro either. I used to bash Behr but they’ve improved a lot since I first painted. It does dry and flash quickly. I used Behr on ceilings, Regal Select or Scuff-X on walls at my parent’s place.
I’m helping a friend paint, he’s gotten a few gallons of Ultra and Marquee - not bad. Floetrol makes it behave better if the humidity is low/ambient temp is high.

    1) The coverage is pretty bad, requiring me to fill in many pinholes and stippled areas
    2) The color from my first gallon to the 2nd is off, 2nd gallon much lighter. You can clearly see the demarcation from one gallon to the other on one wall.
    3) The quart I then got to fill in remaining missed spots is another color! My walls are splotchy, almost as if I had attempted to sponge over with a very slightly more purple cornflower. Since I brushed in the missed spots on 2 walls with the same (first) gallon, they are OK.

You are never wrong to prime, but sometimes it is overkill: If your walls are well sealed, not having stains, excessive patching, and not too glossy, a paint and primer paint will save having to mess with a dedicated primer. One advantage of a paint and prier paint is that your "primer" is the exact color of the finish coat, making "holidays" much less likely. Good, 100% acrylic paints have always been decent paint and primer. The economic consideration for the Pro is that his/her time is more valuable than the cost of the paint itself. The Pro does not have to stop and tint a primer to be close to the finish coat.
