    I'm so glad I came across your video Whitney. Now I have a better idea of how to paint my new ranch style house. I wish everyone would share links to the paint colors they use, the way you did. Would you happen to have any color suggestions for a sun room? The previous owner of this house just painted all of it, (including the ceiling), beige and I find that to be very boring. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      So happy to help! Since I’m not familiar with your design direction you could either go light and airy with neutral toned pastels like a soft sea foam green, or you could go dark and moody with a rich burgundy, navy, deep teal, or even black?

    I have pine we are using for a chair rail. I want to use the color u used for the shiplap wall. (And the Greenwich village on top) Did u use a rolling brush or regular brush 🤔 👀 also my ceilings will be the same knotted pine should I do a darker stain? So hard for me to visualize things.

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 2 lety

      Hi Olivia,
      This is going to be so beautiful! have you already completed the project yet? I think a darker stain on the ceiling would be stunning. It would feel very rustic and give the room a feeling of a higher ceiling. Most people think that darker colors make spaces feel smaller but the opposite is true.. with darker colors the walls or ceiling fades into the distance unlike and with lighter colors it brings those surfaces to the foreground. Are you asking what kind of brush I used to paint the shiplap? I used an angled paint brush to get in the cracks then I used a roller.

    Not sure what color I want to paint my room. My whole life my bedroom has been a bright yellow and I’m nervous to change it because people say yellow makes you happy and I’m nervous any other color will make me sad… but I definitely am ready for a change.

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi there! I loooove yellow too! You can always add yellow into your room with pillows, throw blankets, vases, art. I know it seems like a daunting decision but remember it’s just paint and you can always change it back. You could also leave one wall yellow and paint the other three something new..

    Great info. My wife and I are remodeling our home in more of a Scandinavian style with light French oak floors and white walls. Was considering ultra pure white or nano white. Any thoughts on which shade of white would be best? We have lots of window and natural light. Thanks

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Skiba! I love Scandinavian style homes! I have never worked with Nano white but from what I can tell it is more warm toned. Scandinavian design is very clean, crisp, white, bright, and airy while still being cozy. I would stick with Ultra Pure White to keep the space crisp then use ‘hygge’ type decor to add warmth - jute rugs, baskets, through pillows and blankets... Are you familiar with hygge? It is the Scandinavian way of making spaces and moments cozy, welcoming and present. Let me know how it turns out!

      In both of the pins the upper cabinets are either exposed shelving or painted white - this prevents the upper cabinets from feeling to bulky with a darker color. Good for thought.

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 4 lety

      Hey there! It could be because of what you were painting over? What was the original color? Did you use a primer? Exterior paint might have a slight tint to it to make it suitable for outdoors - check with your paint supplier and see if that’s the case.

      Lighting plays a HUUUGGGEEE role in how paints look in your space! Especially whites and light grays. They ALL have undertones and you have to pick the undertone that goes best with your decor or go a bright clean white but at the risk of it looking sterile. I went with a green undertone for mine because blue and yellow just was not what I was going for!

    • @hocineted7594

      Stacy Boyett I want to paint my bedroom and I don’t know which color is the best simply white, or ballet white, or shoji white ?

    • @stacyhoneycutt8881
      @stacyhoneycutt8881 Před 4 lety

      @@hocineted7594 I am definitely not an expert lol but have been through ALMOST every white out there! Shoji white is VERY yellow. Simply white has a strong yellow undertone to me also. Ballet white was not in my arsenal so I can't speak to that one. It's really going to depend on the look you are going for, your lighting and what undertone you are ok with. Yellow and blue were not options for me. I was ok with a green undertone but decided on a black and white color scheme for a more neutral base. I'm going a farmhouse type style. Whisper white and shoelace were definitely in the running for me though.

    Anybody have a go to color if im using purple accents in a farm house bedroom with grey tones in the bed spread

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Nicole! You’re safest bet would be sticking in the whites/off whites category. Depending upon your hue of purples you could go with a weathered moss type neutral. If you’re going for a Victorian farmhouse vibe with Royal purples you could do a deep hunter green with brass hardware.

    If I am using an off white color like whisper white, what color should I paint the trim?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 4 lety

      Hi Vanessa! There are no rules... you could paint the trim black, salmon, hunter green.. whatever as long as it makes you feel happy. If you go with the same color for trim like whisper white it will be seemless and most people won’t notice the walls are off white. If you did ultra pure white it would be a subtle contrast. I love the way off white walls like Swiss coffee look with ultra pure white trim. It’s so elegant. If you want the walls to look like a color choice then contrasting trim color is best. If you just want to warm up the space so it’s not ultra pure white sterile then the same color trim is just fine! Hope this helps.

    • @machia0705
      @machia0705 Před 3 lety

      @@WhitneyBaldwin
      I’m a professional painter. Hang time refers to the ability of paint not to run when applied heavily.
      Behr has vibrant colors, a good paint for spray applications, but found it to be a bit thin. It runs a lot more than other paints. But if you do 2 coats it’s fine.
      Benjamin Moore you can lay it on heavy, 1 coat, no runs. But Behr is a decent DIY paint that is affordable.
      Ever try Glidden? I think it’s superior to Behr. And less expensive.
      To each his own as they say😃

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  Před 3 lety

      Ahhhh, gotcha. That makes sense - Thank you for the reply and explanation. I’m sure Benjamin Moore paint is fantastic and a luxurious experience when applying and I would love to be able to afford to use it everywhere! This old farmhouse is over 7,200 sq feet and I simply can’t afford that much premium paint at the moment.
      Looking forward to the day that I can though!!
