- I will restore this rusty mechanical elephant bank made by Hubley. The mechanism is not working and it's missing a spring.
I started by dissasembling the bank. The parts were cleaned from old paint and rust with laser cleaner I loaned fron W2M laser, to learn more about that you can go to: w2m.fi/en/laser-cleaning/
The pieces inseide the bank were protected agains rusting with gun blue solution. Other pieces were painted.
I created a tool to easily make a new spring from piano wire with just a hand drill to replace the missing spring. I ended up using 0.5mm wire.
I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks for watching!

Never change how you do these videos! I like you don’t include any music in them since I think they distract from the natural sounds from all the moving parts
Yeah it's basically ASMR the music would totally ruin it.
I use his videos to help me get sleep and they work wonders
Watching one of these before bed so good
I agree with what everyone has said. 🔇
@@Drayton226 I do the same. They're perfect if you're not quite ready to fall asleep but don't want to watch an actual TV show which wakes your brain up.
I find these videos really relaxing.
You’re absolutely right 🙌
I actually own this exact bank. It used to belong to my grandparents. It's at least 50 years old. The comments about the gray are spot on. It's actually a darker gray. In addition, the eyes are all black, not white with black pupils and on the feet, the toenails are painted black. This was a fun restoration to see. I've always wondered what it looked like inside after all the years of looking at it and using it.
When I Googled it, I found many different colour variations. I suppose one could restore and paint it many ways then! 🙂
It can be worth a lot of money for the rarity’s
maybe they just didn't bother painting it before hence the darker gray tone : )
@@33v4. It's definitely painted
This little elephant bank was probably a treasured belonging of a child or even an adult who kept it throughout their life. You did a great job restoring it. It probably looks how it did when it was new.
Great if you don't look at the details. But then again I must be used to watching real restaurateurs like My Mechanic and others...
@@mmdirtyworkz what you do you mean "real" ones? so this is all fake?
@@riskyrecipeh4858 No not fake. By real I meant when things get truly restored to their former glory. This guy is ok but not like My Mechanic for example, that guy is on another level. Check him out. Not bashing Odd T but he's still not on that level.
@@mmdirtyworkz super disrespectful to come on a guys page, talk shit, then plug a completely different person.
@@riskyrecipeh4858 don't get your panties in a twist boy
As a miniature painter my only advice would be: use a bigger brush! Even if you need more precision, what you need as a good pointy brush tip, not a small brush. Also, using a bigger brush will make painting far easier as it can store more paint in the belly and create smoother strokes. Also, thinning paint (in this case enamel paints are thinned with mineral spirits IIRC) allows for it to flow more smoothly.
That laser thing was almost like watching magic. Great video as always!
I was watching how fast it was and thinking that it looked like science fiction - like it belonged in a movie about manufacturing in the future. It looks almost fake, but I know it's real; it's just so amazing to witness.
I'd sub a channel just laser cleaning things.
true
"I need to Mike Tyson the elephant" is a wonderful phrase.
I came here looking for this comment
I used to hate the laser. I liked the old processes. but this time I found it very satisfying.
What an awesome video! My older brother had one of those, he never let us touch it. The trunk sometimes would go a bit sideways and miss. It bought back great memories, thanks and keep those videos coming!
Great job. I think the light gray on the body is too light, judging by the original it had a bronze/brown which had a richer, not as flat a look.
I love ur videos reminds of CZcams before it was.. well now
Lol, I know I quit all social media but the shaking butts followed me.
The simple days of CZcams, with vloggers like SMPFilms, and the occasional let’s plays with no voice over commentary, just game play. A more quiet CZcams
Cool bank. Would have loved to see the elephant keep it's original finish, and just revitalize the saddle/etc. The bright whitish grey color of the elephant takes away from the age of the piece, makes it look to "new".
I agree... its patina was really nice but that's all gone. It lost most of its charm with this complete repaint in my opinion. Not everything needs to be blasted to bare cast iron and repainted to "like new".
I think out of all the things you've restored so far, this one really stands out! I have seen this 1920's elephant bank deposit restored on other channels, but it's great to see you restore this ancient product back to life as well! It's so neat to see something that's entirely out of metal, and not plastic! Always happy to see more laser cleaning action! The Ducktor even got himself a new toy to play with! :D Love the new colors you gave the elephant too! Amazing restoration once again, Odd! :D Keep up the fantastic work!
I think your method of paint and rust removal is the best and fastest I have ever seen.
watching the original paint get destroyed was somehow both super satisfying and immesely painful
Just immensely painful for me. My heart sank as I watched the patina and original paint be burned off a 100 year old item.
I found one of those in an old house I rented in Utah about 7 years ago. It has a blue howdah though and can often send the penny flying over the elephants back. I absolutely love it.
I have a statue from my grandparents. It's an elephant carved from wood and the tusks are actual ivory. It's a heirloom. This reminded me of it
It's satisfying to watch that rust remowing with laser. It's seems to be quick and easy system to use.
Cool how they came up with these mechanical things during the early 1920’s and possibly during the Great Depression depends on the year made
I see a new Odd Tinkering I click and enjoy a peaceful asmr of restoration. I'm simple like that and I love it. Thank you Odd Tinkering Finnish fellow.
I'm in love with your style. The way you have a splash of personality and individuality come through in your videos is so charming. Nerdy, cute, concise, organized, AND good at what you do.
Just imagine. A hundred years ago when a child played with this coin bank, Laser's weren't invented and the physics leading to the invention weren't fully understood.
This man could restore balance to the force
Hard, arduous work but the effect is excellent. ongratulation from Vietnam 🥰😘👍
The amount of patience you have for these videos is incredible. Also all of the unique tools you use! I’m always amazed when I see new tools you use.
I don't know why I was on edge, but seeing you paint the screws as the final touch was so satisfying :D
It pained me to see the little original paint be ruthlessly murdered like that.
i saw a bank exactly like this at an antique store & hesitated to buy it. when i came back the next day to get it someone else had bought it. i was heartbroken. still hoping to come across another some day
Absolutely love the laser cleaner, could watch that all day. What a brilliant invention to shake spray paint. Another great restoration
How delightful and sad that all these treasures are almost gone in peoples minds, there’s is so little joy in common folks lives these days. If it wasn’t for people like you we wouldn’t remember at all. He’s a beautiful specimen of times gone by and the happiness that people bestowed upon each other
Love your work! The patina on this elephant though was perfect, too bad it was destroyed.
I loved the way it looked before, it had a tale and life.
I glad you fixed it though ☺
Beautiful recovery, she succeeded :)
I need to stop watching these at midnight because I keep almost passing out due to how relaxing these are :P I need to watch these during lunch or something when I won't fall asleep!
Properly fitting slotted screwdrivers are so satisfying, even just to watch.
I like the result; Love the laser cleaning. Paint job looks a little rough though. Maybe because of the rust pits underneath. Could have done with some filler/sanding maybe.
Great restoration. I saw on Edd China's Workshop channel where with a much larger laser cleaner was used and he cleaned the chassis of an old Land Rover he's restoring, amazing bit of kit. Your channel is one of my favorites because you repair and restore so many different items. Well done. Cheers from this old retired coot living the dream in Tennessee.
Thanks for telling me about Edd's channel!
I will never get tired of watching laser rust removal. Maybe one day, when it becomes an average consumer product you can just buy off the shelf.
I can guess that thing is not cheap, but I want one!
Love your videos! Always soothes me when i need to wind down from either a hectic day or just life with anxiety in it self. Though i do miss when you did the different baths to remove rust instead of the lazer, i understand it takes much more time. But it was very satisfying when you scrubbed the baddies away. 😊
I agree, the rust remover baths were so oddly satisfying in a way the laser just can't replicate! But it's cool to see him doing new things and other people seem to love it, if it saves him time then I get it 😅 but I'm glad I'm not alone
Lol, you took me off guard with the Mike Tyson joke
great job and many great thanks that you don't add music or small talks about everything what loving many vloggers.
This is the first time I have been disappointed in something you have repaired. I just hated seeing the old paint removed. I think the elephant gray was a bit too light. The painting of the seat turned out beautifully. The repairs on the inside were wonderful to watch.
Would you like it rusted?
@@gameyord7182 I would like the aged patina on the exterior cleaned and then sealed to prevent further loss of paint.
The paint shaker was the most over the top thing I’ve ever seen😂😂
The derusting laser is just so satisfying 😌👌
I have to say i was expecting you to file or sand the surface to get a smoother piece and i was disapointed with the paint job. I'm not a hater by all means, i'm just giving my honest opinion. You have great videos but this is not at the level that you always deliver.
If you left in all footage from the laser cleaner I wouldn't even complain. It's so satisfying to watch.
(But I understand why you don't of course.)
It turned out great, there is something to learn. I think I will reach this level soon
I love the way he made the new spring
the neighbors must love him when he starts making videos
Lovely job. Great video and coverage. The Ducktor liked the spring.
I much prefer the laser method of removing rust and paint over sandblasting. Much more satisfying to the eyes and more importantly the ears.
I love your content. It's always relaxing and inspiring.
Yes Yes! The laser has returned. All hail the laser. Man I want one of those things soon as I got 20K left over I'm slapping it down for one. It does such an excellent cleaning job without removing a lot of metal.
Beautiful restoration of the elephant bank. And now Ducktor can spring into action!
Really liked the cleaning lazer!
Great video, the spray can shaker tho 😁😊
I’m always here for the laser.
Sometimes the best restorations are the simple ones! Great job 👌
Thank you for doing another mechanical bank restoration! I love them. It's just so interesting. Keep up the fabulous work 👏 💪 👍
Great restoration as always. Ha ha, The Ducktor on a spring. Love it.
8:18 "It says shake well, how much should we shake it and for how long?"
Odd Tinkering: YES
Someone buy this man some larger paintbrushes! Beautiful work as always
Amazing Restoration 👍👍
This is the epitome of work smarter, not harder
Another awesome restoration bro'! Dang, these coin banks from yesteryear are a joy to look at -
Crazy how that is 100 something years old, amazing !
Wow good restore👍👍🥰
There's something about laser cleaning that calms me down. The sound? The way it instantly gets rid of the rust? I have no idea, tbh. I could watch an hour long video of someone using a laser cleaner and I'd be calm af.
I love that you restore antiques in addition to electronics. It’s such a neat gift you have! ❤
I love that Rawr 20s era Cast Iron Mechanical Elephant Bank you have fixed up with a new paint color and how you put the coin into the metal elephant bank thing is so neat and fun. Awesome and nice job with the restoration work I am impress:)
okay that cleaning laser just looks like witchery to me
I have one of those as well! It's Wonderful to see this one get the love it deserves!
To me, most impresive thing is how precisize you paint.
Simply beautiful.
Love these heffalump coin banks! Hint for future: larger pupils in the eyes for a less "mad elephant" expression. 💙🐘
WOW, great job my man.
And that's officially the best paint mixer I've ever seen.
Excellent job and a beautiful paint job.
Unique elephant bank, looks great shape for the age.your restoration is spot on as usual.great piece of nostalgia.great video.kudos 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Outstanding transformation.
Your videos give me inspiration to restore - they are just so relaxing
That second pring was incredible
Fantastic work as usual! I love your videos and your channels. Thank you for sharing it with us!
I had one just like it growing up! No idea it was that old.
I like these kind of your videos. The electronic stuff is cool but... Great video. Very cool antique elephant bank
Cool project 👍 turned out great
As an American, I thoroughly appreciate the Mike Tyson joke. 🤣
this is the first time I saw you using rust cleaning laser, the process and the result was very satisfying. I could watch it all day.. also the paint shaker machine, hahaha wonderful invention
Well done, then...😏
So perhaps, which one is the *better rust cleaning methods* to you, Fahmi? Is it by hi-tech laser, sandblasting, or maybe the old school *chemical rust remover* right?
I had to do some work on a personal electronic, and I thought to myself “I need one of those fancy _Odd Tinkering_ screw/part organizers……then I realized it’s an ice cube tray 🤣
Those tiny cans of paint are adorable 🥰🤣
Such a cool piece! It's always fun watching your videos, I enjoy them a lot!
"Frickin' lasers!"
I love your videos, so relaxing.
Ooooh! I love these mechanical piggybanks! They're so gimmicky but so charming!
It's like a non-battery-powered version of that one box-shaped piggybank that went viral for a bit ages ago, where you place a coin on a push button shaped like a fishbone and then a cat pops out of the box to steal the coin.
I still see lots of visible rust spots after the laser cleaning, and while painting. This isn't bits of the red paint either. Won't that cause problems later?
Two things in this life I love: elephants and mechanical banks. Thanks for this one, @OddTinkering ❤️🐘 I really like your channel a lot; it is über relaxing.
Wow how relaxing great photo filming unscrewing etc.i can watch that rust and paint Lazer all day awesome. Resto
woah those really were some impressive finger gymnastics😎
Awesome job on the restoration, as always brother. Your videos are most enjoyable, and informative! Please keep up the good work. God bless. Rev. D.
I loved every second of this. 👏🏽💕
I like the silly can rattler. XD
Now the Ducktor has a friend.
