Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress. But the role she plays in "Silver Linings Playbook" cannot compare with the nuances and complexities that Emmanuelle Riva gracefully gives in "Amour".
I think Watts should have won for the impossible. She was incredibly powerful in the role.
This is one of the rare but unfortunate cases where they gave the award to the least-deserving of the 5 nominees. But it's not really her fault, it was Weinstein

She is a great actress, really fun to watch on Silver linings playbook but the Oscar should have gone to Quvenzhané Wallis or Emmanuelle Riva.
In my opinion, she didn't win an Oscar because she was better than all the female nominees in the category but for the fact she played an aged widow perfectly when she herself was in her early 20's. The hate towards her is unbelievable. She does not deserve it at all. Same with Anne Hathaway. These two female actresses are highly hated for completely no reason. Both are intelligent, smart and talented.

I thought Naomi Watts deserved the Oscar for her stunning portrayal in The Impossible, the most overlooked film of 2012. Regardless of what critics say about it showing basically all Europeans caught in the Tsunami without adequately showing the effects on indigenous populations. This was a true story and more about a mother son relationship of survival. Silver Linings Playbook was not all that inspiring, a bit over the top in places. and Jeniffer Lawrence was good, but it wasn't an Oscar winning performance. Agree or disagree, The Impossible was an incredible film and deserved more nominations then just best actress.
