Robin Williams is the epitome of the phrase, "He was beloved." Lovely man. He used to live in my neighborhood, the Castro, in San Francisco and just smiled and nodded to everyone as he passed them. He was just a guy, no airs, no pretentiousness.
All of the nominees that year were Oscar-wnning performances, no doubt about that, but they stood no chance against Robin's performance in Good Will Hunting. His performance was simply perfection.
While I truly love Robin in this film, Burt Reynolds had won almost all the other awards up to this point. I feel he deserved it that year, as the role's character was much more of a stretch. You could see how disappointed he was. It's sad he never got his Oscar. But also hard not to embrace Robin's happiness too.
What a tough year this was. Greg Kinnear was spectacular, and I absolutely love Robert Forster's performance. And I haven't even mentioned Burt Reynolds. (This wasn't going to be Anthony Hopkins' year.) But just to be clear, Robin Williams absolutely deserved to win.
Cold Winter it was one of those years where almost every performance nominated was truly deserving of the award, I’m happy with Williams winning but honestly I would be with any of the nominees, and I say this as a massive PTA fan.
Saw Robin at the Comedy Store in LA once around 1980. When someone makes you laugh so hard that tears roll down your face and you can't breathe you never forget. Saw him again 1991 at a book store in my home town. At the time he was filming the movie Toys. Speaking with him was such a interesting and enjoyable conversation. The beautiful irony of Robin williams is he was both one of the greatest iconic comedians and he was also one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. Robin was thrilled. Also, chocked with much emotion and said this win left him almost speechless and admitting to all, that he amazingly didn't know what to say.
To this day I can't visualize anyone else delivering the speech on the bench at the duck pond the way Robin did in the movie. I still recall the first time I saw the movie and thinking during the scene, "That's an Oscar-winning performance right there." We lost a brilliant, talented man when Robin left us. He was a rare breed that could bring us to tears with both his frenetic comedy and his dramatic acting.
That scene of them in the park is probably the best acting I've ever seen, and I can relate to it so much, you were a blessing on this earth Robin. RIP
Those words were written by. Matt Damien..and delivered word fir word only as Robin could...tears to my eyes .when that movie came out I still hadn't finished grieving for my husband...I guess I never will.
He was genuinely proud of this. It was so lovely to see him barely able to crack a joke for once! Although, I reckon Billy Crystal was possibly even more proud of him. Flippin' lovely video.

We needed you during this time Mr. Robin Williams. We still miss you.
I love how Billy almost runs across the stage to hug him.
We are all moments in God's sun. Robin was one of the brighter ones.... may he rest in peace...
Man I swear Anthony Hopkins gets nominated for everything. Such a master actor.
Robin was outrageously funny as he was tickling all of our hearts, but it was his acting at serious moments which really touched our souls. From Patch Adams, to Sean Maguire in Goodwill Hunting, to John Keating in Dead Poets Society, to his HBO Specials, Robin was just spectacular. RIP Sir.
What about Aladdin? Fern gully, mork and mindy
People forget another of his movies What dreams may come. That displayed some serious acting chops as well.
We were so blessed to have this man share his genius with us!
Rest in peace my favorite celebrity and homie of all time Robin McLaurin Williams 🙏

RIP to Robin Williams, Robert Forester, and Burt Reynolds
A memorable performance by Robin Williams, one of the best movies I've seen, Matt Damon Ben Aflack brilliant. Supporting cast superb.
I have only just watched good will hunting for the first time today. Im 36. Robin williams was superb. One of the best
I miss Robin being in the world. What an incredible talent
I just love his soul so much.
Thanks so much for your kindness
Still breaks my heart. I've never been hit so hard by a celebrity death.
Billy was so proud and happy for his friend.
what I liked best about this whole moment is Billy Crystal. He and Robin are the best of friends and you can tell Billy just wants to run up and congratulate him. But he stayed back as so not to invade the spotlight from Robin. A class act and a true friend.
I will miss him always but I am thankful I lived to enjoy him. The pain at the end unbearable. He is surely in peace.❤
Miss this man more and more everyday he was truly one of the GOATS
If anyone ever deserved to live forever it was Robin
The most beautiful part of this, is that he got to hug is friend. The friend that knows him best. Beautiful. Robin deserved an oscar way before this. Legend
There are certain movies that just floor ya. And this is one. Thank you Matt & Ben & Robin! Two of you wrote it, but the third one Made it! God bless you all. RIP Robin. I want to say more, but I have not the words.
Patricia Foster wow you're friendly
Matt, Ben and Robin sounds like Batman & Robin. Anyway...
@@tukiluka you, sir, are a genius
the man wasn’t only a dream to audiences, directors, fellow actors, inspired young filmmakers and people all over the world… he also delivered an acceptance speech that was short and tight and probably made the producers of the Oscars very happy because he came in under time… he was swift, charming, and loveable in maybe the fewest words ever said on that stage. What an immeasurable legend!
The beautiful irony of Robin williams is he was both one of the greatest iconic comedians and he was also one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. His versatlity was extraordinary, and his ability to literally become the role he was playing was done effortlessly and he was able to tap into the emotional energy of each role he played. His off the cuff creativity enabled him to perform roles without simply reciting lines on a script, but he performed each role from the depths of his soul. 'The smartest thing any producer or director could do was briefly paint the overview of the scen and then get the hell out of the way and let Robin Williams paint a masterpiece on the canvass of cinema. Finally, why do I get the feeling Robin Williams would have acted and create comedy even if he made only minimum wage, he did it for the love the art, it was literally who he was, and perhaps aspects of his depression was he was able to ecape the realities of this cruel world in the performance of his craft and he also took all of us fans with him on his epic odyssey.
Robin was thrilled. Also, chocked with much emotion and said this win left him almost speechless and admitting to all, that he amazingly didn't know what to say.
Billy's reaction was priceless , true friend support
The happiness that everyone showed for Robin was incredible. You can tell Billy was over the moon for him
R.I.P. Robin Williams. He was truly a special human being :)
The speech on the bench is the greatest speech in the history of acting.
Three of the five have left us. Rest in Peace Burt, Robin, and Robert. Robin, your performance was a true awakening of your acting genius as well.
😢We miss you Robin Williams
R.I.P.
RIP Robin Williams, you are deeply missed.
Such a great man, doesn’t go up on stage being egotistical. You can see he genuinely means everything.
If a place like heaven exists, Robin is there. Of all the people on this earth throughout history, he deserves that. He's given so many people a light in the deepest of the darkness. Even if the light wasn't there for him, he made it for others. Thank you Robin.
I get emotional whenever I think of robin williams😞☹️
Seeing how ecstatic Billy is for his friend was the best part I think.
Robin was truly a legend as an actor, as a comedian and as a human being.
The world is less without you.
I still mourn his passing - such a wonderful talent and a lovely man.
Five fantastic performances in five great movies, has to be one of the most competitive races in Oscar history
Robin Williams, an actor whos talent is untouched to this day
Still here in 2018.. one of the best films and because of Robin. Still think about him all the time. RIP Robin
Thanks so much for your kindness.... May he soul rest in peace..
One of the greatest Oscars speeches of all time. Short, simple, and sincere. God bless you, Robin, we miss you.
What a Beautiful Man Robin was. I wish he could have been saved 😢
Oh my gosh, he was loved! Lisren to that roar! He was cheered even before he won ❤
Beauty comes in many forms, and Robin Williams is one such form.
I feel lucky to have been alive at the same time he was. From Mork&Mindy all the way through to Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society... oh the list is too long but the memories are cherished. He was a beautiful, wonderful actor and I hope he is at peace now.
Hearing his voice break with utter shock, excitement and the million feelings that came with that moment, it’s amazing. He broke open when he got out of his seat. Such a beautiful moment. Rest in peace ❤️
I think he felt that at this moment he wasn't a comedian doing films he was a serious actor being rewarded for his skill in acting not his skill at being a comedian.
Love the reaction and the interaction with Billy Crystal. Those guys did a lot of stand up together and were such great friends.
one of the very few "famous" people that really affected me when he died...i Never suspected it possible...
Robin Williams was one of a kind.......
