I miss the feel and pace of films made in the 90s
I agree.
Same, Best time for movies and video games
I agree
Yep, and way too much CGI nonsense taking centre stage, instead of acting and writing talent, in today's 'blockbusters'
This movie always makes me cry. The unnecessary discrimination and hardship we put upon each other.
Hmmm except it doesn't establish that he was ever fired for his condition
💯 I agree with you
This movie will never fade, never lose relevance, never fail to reach humanity and give us a reality check.
But I do hope one day it will lose relevance, and we'll watch it wondering "I don't get it, why was he fired ?" and we'll have to fact check to see if, really, once upon a time, people were so stupidly biaised.
Was he unvaccinated?
Reality check-"so yeah bro as long as you don't stick your weiner in a hairy man ass you'll be alright"
Huh, weird. Seems pretty easy to follow
@@tsuba666to think just a year or so ago people were fired for a experimental rushed vaccine. It will never lose relevancy
@@ScottPutnamART Joe Rogan? Is that you or just one of your listeners who believe every lie you tell?
Denzel is a fine actor. Great movie. It doesn't lose its relevance.
Tom Hanks has never made a bad film. And he can do comedy and heart-felt roles so well.
Antonio Banderas and Denzel Washington seemingly never age
Hair plugs and plastic surgery lol
🙄
@@mikedavis8008 i guess every single asian that looks like they're 30 when they're 50 also have hair plugs and plastic surgery, the more you know
You really should look at the Antonio photos . He's changed a lot!!
Denzel was damn handsome when he was younger. He still a very good looking man ❤
No way that Denzel didn't deserve the Oscar for this performance. He truly earned it!
Only if he plays a foul crooked cop
@@markbones1921 ha ha........ha ha...................my man!
Im not so sure. Denzil is always just Denzil.. He has never played a complex character I didnt think this performance was anything more than decent
May never forgive Mary s for this role.
@@johnflynn5044 Clearly you've never seen "Malcolm X."
Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks. Unreal.
Yes, let's all indulge in hyperbole.
More than 30 years old and except for the aging of the actors, it looks like it could have been filmed a month ago. Incredible movie.
God bless Tom and Denzel for making this movie.
Good actors Always Great Movies
Why?
You’re weird
Thank god God gave us aids so they could make this movie.
Couldn't agree more!!!
IN MY VIEW
Denzel Washington is one of the GREATEST MASTERS OF ACTING. He has earned great respect.
80s & 90s movies were the peak. Just like 90s music was the peak.
Oh gee not 90's music
@@ilkr03 I said it. I'll stand on it. 🤣
90ies music was definitely not good :)
@@hungabastahdeluxe3751 90s music was phenomenal.
When this movie came out, my best friend ever in life had just passed from AIDS. Early on, this discrimination was real. Sitting through this movie in a theatre nearly destroyed me but it was, and still is, the gut-wrenching truth about how people with AIDS were treated in the 1980s.
Sorry for the loss of your friend...and the anguish all affected were forced to endure..I think this film opened alot of eyes .and, hopefully, hearts.
Two of the finest actors around, Denzel Washington/Tom Hanks🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Tom's perfomance was amazing....
That’s what won him his first Oscar
@@justicejakober5506DW…ridiculous…
Everyone's
This was back when Tom Hanks was actually trying to act instead of basically playing Tom Hanks in every role.
One of the best movie that made a profond difference in how the society wrongly discriminated homosexuals then and how urgent we needed to change to make a better world. These talented actors along with the production team in this movie triggered this positive evolution within our society and made it possible for us to accept different sexual orientations.
1:51 Brilliantly depicted anguish look from the legendary widow of Paul Newman, Joan Woodward, playing Andy’s mom… 🥺🥺🥺
I didn't know she was Paul's wife wow
I love how the film gives no question that the firm fired Andrew for being gay. “He asked for it”
According to the film, the partners had no clue he was gay or had AIDS. They found out when they got served a lawsuit. So in reality, he was actually fired due to his poor work performance. Not some kind of discrimination.
@@chaddlindsay9909You need to watch the film again.
At the beginning of the film they had the one guy in the firm seeing spots resembling lesions on his face. The next act features a case including paperwork that mysteriously disappears for almost 24 hours, only to come back up in the last hour unexplained miraculously.
Beckett was an exceptional lawyer which is why they promoted him. So why would they fire him so suddenly for an unexplained mistake after seemingly getting along with all of the partners so well in addition to his skill?
This clip also hints fairly strongly at this being the reason with the partner stating that “Andy kept bending the rules” referring to the “OLD and new Testament”: old almost certainly referring to Leviticus, where there is a passage stating a man shall not lie with another man.
Also, a senior lawyer quoting the Bible as the rule book on the law? Filled with contradictions
@@chaddlindsay9909 Wrong. His partners CLAIM they had no clue was gay. It's pointed out in court that that's BS.

A brilliant movie, stellar cast and a haunting track by Bruce Springsteen ..... Truly a movie well worth watching.
Don't forget Neil Young 's great composition for the ending scene
@@mizzury54A lot of people do forget that. 😮❤
@@mizzury54is it on Spotify?
I forgot how powerful this movie was. I remember the ignorance when Aids was at its height. Tears in my eyes watching the end of The Band Played on and seeing a picture with a little girl as a stick figure saying "I have Aids. Please hug me, I can't make you sick."
At least find the CZcams video And The Band Played on by Hateaneagle showing the last scene with Elton Johns song.
And the Band Played On is an amazing film, with Matthew Modine and an all-star cast. Really informative, about the beginning of the HIV-AIDS crisis and the fight to get money for research to the CDC. And yes, that final song makes me cry every time.
This movie is one of the most important movies ever made.
This movie was so moving and awesome at the same time... Mathew in Dallas buyers club and Val in Tombstone have a lot in common with Tom as they ALL researched their characters so well and had to change their bodies so much for their parts...it is simply astounding what REAL actors go thru to make their characters real to everyone! They all deserved academy awards for their interpretations of these men.....bravo.....
great agreed.
Spread the news notaries are going to be making up to 100,000 a year notarizing the new Interdiction Trust Administration
You’re right this movie is awesome. We love you guys as boomers spent our lives putting together a forgery proof inheritance plan. The health industry will be installing it with a legacy protection plan. We spent all our lives to make sure our kids forget their inheritance is without the fighting in a collaboration with professionals from all around the world. The legal profession were elevated south, and distinguish themselves among the Piers around the first of the year.
Washington, Hanks, AND Banderas in this film? I MUST watch this film!
Jason Robards was such a great actor, RIP.
This film breaks my heart every time
This role that Denzel W played...is like when Morgan Freeman played Joe Clark in Lean on Me...they were both pitch perfect in their performances...pitch perfect!
That fucking moment when Andy looks over to the jurors and hallucinates them laughing at him. It'll never cease to disturb me.
What do you think was causing this whole episode? Obviously his breathing was laborered, which is obvious by how he coughed after showing his lesions in the previous scene, but what caused him to start hallucinating like he did? They don't seem to be linked.
@@thecowboy9698 I don't know... I mean it's a nice creepy touch but I couldn't tell you if it has any basis on medicine. Best I can do is guess hypoxia, his brain not getting enough oxygen or something like that.
Truly one of the best movies ever made, a gem in the crown of American cinema.
My two favourite actors, In the same movie- Tom hanks and Denzel Washington. A great movie!
Just 2 unbelievably good actors neither trying to out do the other, but both working so well together. On their own they are both brilliant actors together they were outstanding.
God bless Tom and Denzel for making this movie.. Tom's perfomance was amazing.....
Charles Napier as the judge is perfect
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It's when I feel in love with both Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington as actors that will have all of your emotions engaged. 🥰
Great freaking movie. I think it was the first time I'd seen Tom in a serious role that wasnt slap stick comedy. Denzel is just an amazing actor!
Tom lost 50 lbs for this roll. He said that when lunch was served, Denzel used to tease him with cheeseburgers and barbecue ribs.
Only two movies have ever brought me to tears - Steel Magnolias and Philadelphia.
For me, Sophie' s Choice and Shindler's list. ( the little girl in the red coat). I could only watch these two movies once.
Jason Robards. One of the gods. Fantastic film, in all respects.
Despite playing a villainous character of sorts, his performance was second to none.
love how denzel applauded and crossed examination on the boss. and made him silly.
First time I saw this masterpiece I cried like a baby with my wife in the theatre
I really do not understand why Tom Hanks felt the need to apologise for taking this role, he is superb in it. Superb film, and, at the time, very very informative, educational, moving and beautiful.
Possibly because he is a ‘straight’ actor playing the part of a gay character which could have been given to a gay actor
@@RTG1031 Are you being serious about such a topic, as gay actors playing straight characters has almost been a meme since time immemorial? What matters is how well they can pretend to be someone they are not, which is what every single actor has done forever. If you do not think he portrayed his character in the film well, then that is a different matter entirely.
@@philipdawes2661 Like a great actor once said: "So, I most be a seriel killer, bc I play one realy good? Have anyone know the mening of the word "acting"?
This is THE HOLE POINT. PLay somebody perfectly, who is NOT YOU. That is that the talent that is why we go and watch. If one thing I learned in 40 years, there is always a new low point. The question is, you care about it or not.
@@mr.chapel4179 100% behind you on that.
@@philipdawes2661 I did not say that I agreed with it. Just giving the explanation that. Tom Hanks has given since then as I think that we all know what the point of acting is.
The problem with writing comments is that you can't always detect the tone as easily as you can when you are speaking to a person
This judge was quite patient
He knew what Denziel was trying to get at and allowed him to do so. The judge was aware of what probably needed to happen in this lawsuit and wasn't going to hamstring the plaintiff for decorum sake. Good judges are like that, they know and realize when an attorney is going down a path asking particular questions and allow things that normally wouldn't be allowed, and know when to reign in attorneys that ramble and do nothing but commit character assassination. Unfortunately, the latter is running rampant in the US justice system since judges allow DAs to get convictions on character assassination alone instead of presenting a case of the crime committed.
I like him, he knew how serious this was
this project was incredible. denzel, hanks, everyone. great performances.
DENZEL AND ANTONIO WERE GREAT..
BUT MR.HANKS MADE ME CRY LIKE A KID.....TOP OF THE LINE ACTORS.... EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!!!!
It took me to 2 mins and 35 secs in to realize thats tom hanks lol. I thought after the first guy denzel would then call tom up next 😂
In reality, the supposed 5:00 p.m. filing deadline for the document they claimed to have lost is bogus: the Eastern District of Pennsylvania courthouse, where the suit was filed, has an after-hours box, so they had seven hours to redo the document plus it's not his fault there were no backups. I used to work in law offices including some involved in this type of case.
They all played their parts greatly Tom. Denzel. Antonio great movie that touch the heart bruce Springsteen so g helped it even more
The judge was the lead singer of the good old boys and driver of the Winnebago in blues brothers.
Denzel played this role so damn well
My all time favourite movie of all time....after The Green Mile and Forrest Gump! Denzel and Hanks rock! Both academy award winners 😀❤❤❤❤❤

I love how Denzels character used his own bigotry he had towards gays and aids to help win the case duringb the cross examination
Timeless actors practicing their mastercraft without fail and with apparant ease and grace…👊🔥
One of my favorites Tom Hanks´s movies
Denzel killed this part as the lawyer, but one also has to respect the level of dedication Tom Hanks put into this part. He looked so thin, so grey, like patients suffering from terminal illneses do. It's so heartbreaking.
Tom and denzel were great together I this movie. Showed the prejudice toward people who are sick with this terrible illness.
The most important movie of my lifetime! A groundbreaking achievement with significant importance for its time! A phenomenal film with stellar cast performances!
Tom Hanks deserves all the accolades he's received
Denzel deserved an award, too. Great movie
No he doesn't. For the past twenty-five years Tom Hanks has done nothing but play himself in virtually every role.
T Hanks in this role is epic...such a hard play and so convincing by all.... No wonder hes the Man to play all the great movies he do ...Dam hes good
Tom Hanks, Denzel.... great actors.
This clip has so many outstanding actors, in addition to Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks, even the jury had three actors who went on to be exceptional actors themselves.
Yes, go back and look, there are three members of the jury, who are not A-List actors, but they are recognizable and known for their art.
The opposing attorney is also a great actress, Mary Steenburgen.
Mr Kruger from Seinfeld. RIP
Dear Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, and so many more in this film show what a art acting is and these masters of this art really show that you are just a amusing guy with an Oscar, your claim is that you unintentionally showed the world that the academy has lossed its way and is just a party
Every time i hear Springsteen's song Philadelphia i think of this movie.
The little reaction from Robards at the end. A true goat
Just watched this last night. Brought me to tears. Tom, Denzel, heck all of them did fabulous. Antonio and Denzel still looking hot lol. Anyway, beautiful movie.
Academy Award-winning effort bt Tom and Denzel was great.
Denzel and Tom 2 of the greatest actors of modern times
This scene always has me crying on the one hand, and it pisses me off on the other. Crying because of all the stuff he had to go to, but pissed because his former employers lack of compassion. When the guy says “He asked it.”, it showed their lack of empathy and reminded me of when people I knew were so homophobic that they couldn’t one ounce of empathy. Still one of my favorites.
This is a very powerful movie it addressed the Aids issue n the discrimination of it, very Great Actors here!!!
This movie will NEVER get Old!!!
Three great actors
The lady lawyer done such a terrific job. So annoying so bitchy and mean beyond any limits😂
But even still the entire time you can tell she’s talking through her teeth. There’s an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling when she talks and at first you think it’s just cause she’s being this annoying bitchy character, but when she mutters “I hate this case” you realize it’s just cause she at no point in this trial believes what she’s saying, she just has no choice but to say itb
@@boppityboopy114 agree

The best movie i have ever seen
I adore this film, I often take midnight walks up to the local petrol station, have a chat with the bloke working there and he gives me a fag (cigarette for non-UK people), tell him my troubles and we check in with each other, all to Bruce Springsteen's moving music from this film. Denzel & Tom smash it in this film.
Oh crap, I forgot I was watching a clip. This was a great movie, but you have to be in the right mindset to watch it.

This was the most heart reaching movie I ever watched everyone on should got a oscar
It's a movie I've seen only twice. My uncle died of AIDS in 1992, it's too raw even now for me to sit and watch. I'll probably watch it one more time in the near future.
The old guy saying ‘he asked for it’ is pure pure hatred and bigotry of the highest level. He played the hell outta that role.
Aside from all the other amazing parts of this film, Antonio Banderas barely spoke english when he got the role. i could NEVER act THAT well in a second language I am having to learn. It's in his eyes he's just great
Gotta watch this
What a movie
The way they portrayed hiv/aids in those days was so extra. You'd think that a person could get it just by looking or touching.
And it is such a manageable desease nowadays. People live full life
People tend react negatively to what they are unaware of and what they are programmed to fear.
The terror at the start was that we didn't KNOW how it could be transmitted. Thankfully we do now
Great movie! Excellant acting!!
This isn’t a movie. It’s an instructional video on how to be evil to your fellow man. It also teaches us that through kindness we can share our humanity
Some fine acting here
*Joe Miller puts Andrew Beckett on the stand.*
Never forget, the actors are not the characters. We can have great actors who happen to be good people playing also good characters, but you can also have great actors who are awful people playing good characters, and, most usually, great actors who are good people playing awful characters. On occasion, you have great actors who are awful people playing awful characters.
Separate the person from the profession. You'll be sometimes most amazed at how great some actors are, and most of the time you'll save yourselves from disappointments.
Most actors, even great ones, are just regular people.
Heartbreaking 💔
Crazy good cast
