Wow man, that's incredible fishing.
I love all of your videos Mr. Skinner, but I psrticularly love your Metal Shark trips. Very entertaining.
John: You are the King of Flounder Fishing!
Absolutely insane! You are a living legend John.
That is amazing! Dude, you are like the flounder whisperer
Always a pleasure to watch John!
Your move eastward paid off. The old north shore grounds have been a total bust this season. Our fish stocks are in serious trouble. Would like to hear your opinion on the state of Long Island fisheries.
This just keeps getting crazier John, I cried seeing those last fish going back
Keep up the great work!
All the best,
Jimmy Willis
Time index 03:14, Mr. Skinner I didn't quite make out what was said there 😂
I live in Greenport I see that boat all the time.
awesome vid John
Good evening
Good Video Congrats!
Have a great week and good fishing.
HUG!👍🎣🐠🐟🐡
That boat is a tank. Does he do charter work? Killer fluke fishing.
I’m going back on the princess Belmar fishing boat tomorrow I need some 🍀 and some fish 🎣 thanks for the video
Wow, awesome trip!
That boat is fantastic....
Correct!!
what boat is it?
32' metal shark
Really enjoyed watching that. Wish I was there.
Did you guys go out this weekend??
Georgeanne Panos went out today. Caught and released a 10+. It'll be on the next video.
NO WAY!!! That's crazy......good for you!! I'll check it out once Halk uploads it. Looking forward to all the upcoming videos..
"Juuuust Fishin!"
;-)
Truly amazing catches! Nice work. Those nexus rods are so hard to read when there is a fish on. Hardly any bend. Is it hard to keep a bend in them like I know you say to do when fighting a fluke?
Awesome fish!
DAMN NOW THAT'S FLUKING AT IT'S FINEST!!💯👍😎
Clubbing the fish, like I do any large, green Mahi or Blackfin that comes aboard, and especially Cobia, does five things for us in Florida. For us, by dispatching the fish immediately, preservers our boat from being sloshed w/ slime and blood, protects the boat from being absolutely destroyed, protects our knees and ankles from being destroyed (it only takes once to understand!), and to some, its a more humane way to kill the fish, as opposed to letting the fish die a more painful, slow death. The fifth thing it does (supposedly) is to reduce the lactic acid buildup that occurs with a struggling fish dying in the fishbox (or bleed bucket) from hypoxia, thus another way of preserving the fish. The opposing counterpart to this is, like preserving Tuna, is to cut the gills of a live fish to allow their heart assist in the bleeding process. Which is what your bleed bucket is used for, so its completely understandable.
Oh, and we're all jealous of your haul for the day! Completely enjoyable to watch, and that last 9'9" fish? WOW!!
Thanks for that feedback. The only thing I've ever heard of a club being used was many years ago to subdue large bluefish to protect the angler. From what I can tell from some comments, I think it's the law in some parts of Europe. Clubbing a flatfish would be pretty challenging I think.
The east end legend.
Unreal!!!! Tremendous job guys and Skinner, nothing you could do about the net....it happens. By the way, was that the Jigging Jerks theme song I caught a hint of? :)
I was singing it to Jack to encourage him!
Hey John H. did you miss the boat !!!!!
GEORGE K - I was working :(
There's that dirty 4 letter word again !!
My God what a day!!!
What happened to surf casting.. JS you Are the God of saltwater fishing. Your videos rolling up on the beach with that 4wd old school jeep was bad ass.. Love the under water Cam but more Surfcasting for Stripers.. Thank you for all you do!
It's summer. Can't shoot video at night. There will be time for the other stuff in daylight when the weather cools. This is too good for me to not do.
John Skinner Fishing Thank you John I new you would have a rational answer. My nephew Nolan and I own your amazing book Season on the edge, We have learned so much from your books and Videos. If you have any up coming classes we would love to attend. Thanks Again!
Woooooow great video. I love it
New video woooooooooooo!
I see you went doormat shopping again John! 🙏🏼👍🏼
Epic !
Awesome
Hey John, LOVE your videos keep them coming please! I have a question for you: I've been trying the buck tail with the glass minnow teaser up top about a 12" difference, but often the teaser gets twisted up in the dropper loop and i think its ruining my presentation to the fish and lowering my hook up rate, any advice?
Yes. Try 30# fluoro with a shorter dropper loop. Make the dropper loop just long enough to put the glass minnow on. That was a good question.
Will try and report back when i can get on the water, thanks so much!
ANY time I'm netting for someone I always tell them the same thing: When the fish is at the surface, keep your rod @ 1 o'clock and "WALK BACKWARDS". Think about it.....If you don't walk backwards @ 1 o'clock you're going to 1- Reel in too far 2- Lift the rod 'up' to try and get the fish 'close' and inadvertently lift the fish out of the water 3- BOTH
1 o'clock and WALK BACKWARDS!!!!
Capt. Mike Giordano
Correct. It's as much the guy with the rod's responsibility as the guy with the net. Keep the fish moving all the way into the net.
This weekend I had to use up to 12 ounces of lead just to stay near the bottom and although I had to switch to a 2 handed slower jigging motion the Nexus was still was able to produce some decent jigging action
12 ounces? What pound test line? We use 10 and 15#.
John Skinner Fishing I use the same stuff you guys use, I was able to hold with 1.5 the whole day in the ocean but once the wind picked up late afternoon the current got crazy. Reeling in a 12 inch seabass felt like it was 10 pounds in the current
WOW
Don't even think about using that Quantum Reel without the power handle , I like your vids John very informative, but the ratio on the quantums are to high for the paddle handle they come with.
I like the Nexus rod, I have been using them since they first came out, Kilson and I go way back, it's his shop that makes them. I use a Daiwa exceler 100 HA that has no problems with the stock handle, although I use them mostly for Shinneck Bay and off of Can's 7-5-3 off the north side of L.I. sound I use a Tsunami airwave rod rated at 17 to 40 lbs 1 to 4 oz and a Maxel OM5 for my deep water fishing.
My buddy and I did very well this weekend fishing the reef outside of Shinnecock inlet, fish to 26" and c bass to 6lbs.
I found the stock handle fine for the sound and south shore bays, but definitely a power handle is needed for the deeper stuff. They do make a slower, 6.3:1, model, but I rather have the extra speed for cranking the jig back up just to save time.
That aluminum is NOISEY.
I love the new jigging world rod so far, only problem is I caught so many big fish on it today that I wish the grip in front of the reel, the one your left hand holds when reeling in a fish was a little softer, it's kind of harsh on the left hand.
Not a bad problem to have! The guys I know using the rod are really liking it.
Ya we had 16 keepers today.
I do most of my fishing in the bay so the Tsunami and the Nexus are the perfect one two punch for the conditions.
John, would you mind describing the process for shortening the Nexus rod? Might even be a good topic for a video.
Same as this: czcams.com/video/SBLzzFOSCcg/video.html
Thank you! Really appreciate the help
Fun!
Unbelievable!
Today was even better!
I didn't think it was possible.
John you mentioned that you cut 4 inches off of the tsunami classic 70H casting rod.... I've never seen you with a spinning rod but I was wondering if you have ever felt the spinning version and if it would require the same trim of 4"? A friend of mine is a spinning only guy and he picked up that model. And I haven't had the experience of feeling the casting version yet so I'm not sure. Plus he has yet to take the rod out fluking and I would like to make sure he's prepared.
Try the spinner uncut. You can always cut later.
Great catches by everyone! Just a little shocked at the way some of these fish were handled before being released.
Great video, what kind of video editing software do you use?
adobe premier elements
Hey John, I recently bought a Tsunami classic 7’Mh, and was wondering if you knew the range of the oz’s it would become if I cut of 4 inches. I would like to hit around 3-4oz but don’t know if that’s possible to do with only 4inches cut off. Thanks
1 1/2 to 3 is sweetspot, but 4 is fine.
Throughout the entirety of the video i was just clenching my cheeks just waiting for the inevitable to happen.
It was pure tortcha!
hey john, how do you like that berkley tackle bag? I was looking into it, just don't know which size to get. Is yours the medium or large? Thanks
I really like it. Lots of pockets of varying size to organize things. It's the large.
John Skinner Fishing thanks for getting back to me so quick! Would you ever make a tackle box video? I know people love those kind of videos and I’m so curious how you store all of your bucktails/terminal tackle and pre made rigs.
When your grub tail gets bit off, do you immediately put on a new one?
Yes, but if the Gulps are really getting torn up frequently, we'll leave the stub on and add a 6-inch curly otter tail.
haha..rick is my man! great fluke..they are definately the trickiest fish to net..the netter basically does nothing..the angler makes for a successful net job..all the netter should do is simply lift when the fish is steered into the net head first..its amazing how fast they can jump out of a net if they feel the slightest part of that bag or hoop touch them
Any tips to avoid tail chomping on the 6" gulp? I recently started using the 6" grubs to target bigger fish and I find the tails constantly being bit off.
Leave the stub on and put a 6-inch curly otter tail on to get the fluttering action. Those won't get bit off. I've really grown to hate seabass.
John you mentioned that you vacuum seal your catch and freeze it. Can you tell me what kind you have ? Thanks
It's an old foodsaver. They make some real nice ones today.
Net Fail: 29:10
You're welcome. :0)
I can't remember the name but the dispatch method I use is a sharp knife an inch behind the eye and it kills them instantly, It's a Japanese method with a Japanese name but I don't know if it's gonna work for flounder but what you did is as close to the Same thing as I can imagine.
It's something I've noticed on some channels I've seen people dumping their catch live into a black bin no ice on hot florida day and I don't like to see them suffer when they are losing their lives for our food then we should respect that by dispatch in the fastest and most humane fashion.
do you guys ever fish the south shore? or is the sound objectively better for fluke?
This time of year south shore is typically better.
7:42 Ok John, your using a 1.5oz Bucktail in 80 ft. of water and on 22:30 you talk about different sizes... BUT!!!... How does hair volume affect the sink rate or action in each size circumstance? 27:45 the fellas in Brooklyn taught me to kiss the fish before releasing them... Have you ever done so? Thanks to you for your books and videos, I've caught some nice fluke from the surf... Hope you make a new Fluke surf vid soon!... Peace and Love!
The amount of hair impacts sink rate. Deer hair is hollow, so adding hair is like adding buoyancy. It's what gives a bucktail jig its natural looking action. We use a range of weights to deal with different current speeds and drifts.
What dreams are made of....
Hi John- I think you said that the Nexus rod you fish with is Acid / Spiral Wrapped. However, when I follow your links to Amazon, the rod pictures don’t show an Acid Wrapped Rod, nor does the description say its Acid Wrapped. Am I missing something? Thank you.
I just checked. It's the right link. The rod I used is the 7' 20-50#
John Skinner Fishing Yes, the picture wasn’t sent clear to me, but now I see it. Appreciate your prompt reply and really enjoy your videos and helpful hints. It’s nice to “fish with you” when I can’t get out myself. Thank you.
Sometimes, when I use swing hook bucktail, the swing hook tangles itself with leader line. How do I prevent this?
I only have this happen when I'm straight up and down (no scope). It less than once per trip, maybe once every third trip for me. Try going lighter weight.
Hello John I just purchased a Tsunami Classic 7 foot mh how much should i cut off the tip 1 inch and a half and ty ?
I don't cut the MH! It's fine up to about 1.5 ounces, or 2 in a pinch. I take 4 inches off the H for use in the 2-4 ounce range. czcams.com/video/SBLzzFOSCcg/video.html
Ty John
Hey Mr Skinner do you fish the north shore or south if the north shore how Far East do you go?
Both, but this is Montauk.
Where was this?
do you catch sea robbins that far out?
One or two each trip.
Beauties! Block Island? Or you don’t kiss and tell, I suppose...
I realize this is an older video but rather than "clubbing" fish, I use a method called Ike Jime. You basically use a sharp tool to stab and scramble the brain which is an instant kill. Its also known as "pithing". I find it more humane as the fish immediately goes limp and is still able to bleed out because the heart is still beating. I also have a theory that when a fish goes limp, prior to dying, it leads to more tender meat due to it not tensing up its muscle fibers. But I have no evidence to support that.
Hey man quick question, what boat is this ?
32-ft metal shark
cliff would make me nervous on a fishing trip
He's a lot of fun. He had a 14+ pounder last year!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing omg...i cant even imagine a fluke that big..so he beat ricks fish i think..wasnt his 13 pound last yr?
What do u consider doormat anything over 10lbs
What do you think they grow on trees ? Some people fish all their lives and never catch one that big .
Hi John. I sent you an email after your last video. Did you get it? No big deal, just didn't know if it went through.
Are you upstate laker guy? That was cool. I liked the boat. If not, please resend!
John Skinner Fishing yes that was me. Glad you liked it!
I don't get it. Did I miss something? I didn't see any mishap with the net?
Roughly 29 minutes in.
was this south or north shore?
montauk
Can you show the whole catch together?
It was actually 25 keepers, of which we kept 16. We didn't give them a group photo.
Mmmm another fisherman blaming the net guy for improperly bringing in a fish ... hahah!
What kind of boat is that?
32' metal shark
Skinner , no more bass fishing?
It's all night. Can't get video. I've tried, and the camera's companion light really shuts it down.
Fall is coming , il be patient and wait for the albie videos and bass 👍🏼
WHATS YOUR SECRET
" DRAMA NETTING "
I think I'm at the point in the video where John misses. I can hardly watch. I'm trying to focus on the other monitor and some work....
Great trip! Lots of nice fish. One thing i do have to say is whats the deal with all the Ad's in your videos now?? Its annoying
Thanks for that Ad comment. I'll have them spread out more and cut back.
It’s so funny that y’all call them fluke
epic as ben Shapiro would say
Get ride of that rag for the pics grab the fish like a man
