The last time I went Cod fishing it was January and we went out of Montauk point for a 3 hour ride out to the grounds. In 120 feet of water we were dropping 10-12 ounce jigs and I could swear I was feeling the jig bounce off fish as it neared the bottom. Seldom did I bounce the jig off the bottom more than once to hook a nice 3-6 pound Cod. I was actually wearing myself out reeling them up and finally had to stop fishing after I had 2 dozen in my pot. There were a number of mates that I knew from the party boats out of Captree and they were filling those huge 50 gallon coolers till they were overflowing with Cod. These are great eating but honestly I enjoy the fluke fishing more. Congrats on the 4 keeper limit, I remember the days when we were limited to 1 or 2 and it was just miserable. Thanks for keeping those memories alive John, tight lines !

John Skinner: just finished your latest book. By far the best fishing book
I've read since the late Milt Rosko's 'Fishing the Big Four' published in 2001. Well written, very informative and a very easy read. You owe it to yourself to get some more publicity for it. This is a jewel for the angling community. Keep up the excellent work!

I finally decided to give this method a try and bought one of your dark matter rods. Ended up needing 6oz where I was fishing and had a 22.5 inch fluke inhale that 6oz bucktail with a 6inch blue Fuze grub. It was awesome

Hi John, I found a 31ft Ocean Master center console for sale. It has a casting platform in the bow so its not like ricks boat with the flat deck forward. Was wondering if you are familiar with these boats and if you would be comfortable going to the block island grounds in it from greenport?

Lower to the water so the camera is lower to the water which makes better video. When trolling with the trolling motor it's the worst spot on the boat because you're last in line.

Cod was once so plentiful in New England that legend had it you could walk across the local waters by stepping on the backs of the fish. In really warm years, every female cod produces fewer babies than we would expect, and we also see that the young fish are less likely to survive and become adults. And they're still are those who debunk Global Warming. SMH
