    The best tasting fish are the ones that you cook right away after catching them. I was taught that by my father who I unfortunately lost in February of 2018. I will never forget all of the times that we fished together. Keep up your great work that you do on your videos. Keep on fishing.

    Hey River Certified. If you want to eliminate those chewy ones, try placing them on ice as soon as you catch them. I've been doing this for years and it's rare as heck for me to run into one with a chewy texture. I think that placing them on a stringer or in a live basket stresses them out and the stress somehow affects the texture of their flesh.

    We have freshwater Drum, called Sheepshead locally, in Lake Erie. I've caught them up to 15lbs+. But the big ones are too dense and oily. My wife and I wanna experiment with them to find a cooking method to make even the big ones good. But up to about 3 1/2lbs, they are so good, that if you weren't told what you were eating, you wouldn't guess!

      I bet the big ones would taste great smoked or blacken.

      Snapping turtle is damn good, especially thoroughly steamed and eaten as cold meat, crackers, cheese. A lot of places it's illegal to kill and harvest soft shells.

    I have been slaying the drum on plastics in the Mississippi lately. Got about 50 in a few hours this morning. Ranging 9-20” or so. When the Mississippi comes up and gets a certain amount of that, they get stacked up in a predictable spot and man it’s like bluegill fishing one after the other 3-10 pounds all day long. It’s a very good time on walleye and bass gear.

  • @kentuckyhiker7071
    @kentuckyhiker7071 Před rokem

    Drum are some good eating. My cousin and I used to catch them all the time in MO. Great tasting fillets. Sucks about your stringer, but, it happens!!
    And the trash. Yep, I try and pick up trash when I am out running around too. What really is bad, I have found that people who fish, are the BIGGEST litterers in the outdoors! I do a lot of backpacking and camping, and the trash is no where near as bad on the trails and campsites, as it is where people frequently fish. It seems like those that get out and "Enjoy" the outdoors, would be stewards of the waterways. But, just the opposite.
    I always carry extra trash bags with me for cleaning up other peoples trash.
    Even though you didnt pick up the trash for a thumbs up, the rest of us who clean up trash, appreciate your efforts!! Thank you sir!
