This was hysterical. I was a big fan of the grind, believing it would get me the financial independence I craved. 55+ hours a week, 2 days off a YEAR, no real vacations... Then I had a minor heart attack. At 43 years old. No more grind for me. I'll still work hard, and make steady progress toward my goals, but no more missed sleep, missed vacations, and tight arbitrary goals. Work hard, but take time to enjoy your life.
I'm right there with you, minus the heart attack! Wish you a happy life.
Good book recommendation: Out of office.
@@Gatechsq21 thanks, I'll check it out! Best wishes to you!
Hear, hear!
It's not about how much you "work" but about getting work done. Being in a office doing useless stuff is not helping you.
@@MRFLOPPYmr True, but that isn't my situation at all. I'm actually a new business owner, whose business is going well - meaning, full with a wait list, just not making a profit yet due to the debt it took to open. So I run my business, and work part time to bring in cash to pay the bills down. The more hours I work, the more my debt shrinks, and the sooner i become profitable, hence the 60 hour work weeks. I had a 2024 timeline to be debt free for the business, allowing me to focus only on that, with a flexible 30 hour work week. Unfortunately my body says ENOUGH, so my new goal is 2025. 47 years old isn't so bad to partially retire- being alive to get there is even better.
Someone Give Pardis Parker a character to voice and then give him an Oscar Please! I'm Inspired.
He's quite right. The glorification of hustle and grind culture is a plague brought on by survivorship bias and often gatekeepers who want don't want to admit they are gatekeeping. No one is saying you don't have to work hard to achieve things but many times you find out that hard work isn't rewarded. Saying work hard until one day hopefully someone takes pity on you and gives you a chance is ridiculous.
I choice to work hard which sometimes requires I stay late at work to get things done and being salaried I don’t get paid extra for the additional hours. However I chose to do that because if my names on it I want it done right.

This was really good. Seeing people being sucked into the hustle culture is so infuriating. We are not meant for that type of lifestyle.
We spent tens of thousands of years hustling around as hunter-gatherers and then thousands of years as farmers. Lazy people DIED.
We are built to hustle.
@@brightlancer We all die.
@@brightlancer Everyone of them died, however, some people figured out better, easier and safer ways of having their needs met. Of course we should work hard but don't forget that we work to be able to live, we don't live to be able to work.
@@brightlancer actually false - hunter gatherers rested and relaxed much of the day and hunted only when they needed to.
The start of the agricultural revolution was when a a lot of our modern issues began, and corporations began demanding more and more output from their workers.
@@brightlancer bro this isn't even true 🤣😂. One thing is true though, humans evolved from monkeys and they are primitive.
You are living proof.
This guy's going places. Just due to the squeak in his voice alone 🤣
I laughed at loud many times, love the speaker and the message!
His sense of humor makes me feel like my inner thoughts are valid. He should be in a new marvel universe movie where he does standup in a post thanos world. He’d make jokes about the shortcomings of the human race that thanos warned us about.
Gosh TED, thanks so much for this much needed laugh! I didn't know Pardis 9 min ago but I now love him!
"Work hard doing something."
That was what I eard since my youth so I always tried to keep myself busy and grind at it, in hopes that one day I would have a career.
I am now 44 and unemployed.
You need to consider what YOU want to do and if the boss actually cares about YOU. If any is missing, you should stop and star over.
Be your own Boss EVEN if you are working for others.

What a refreshing Ted Talk! Let the robots take our jobs hahaha. Great delivery of the message.
But then what will you blame on China? For existing? Lol, OK.
We already could replace most jobs. The reason we don’t is the same reason for our current “hours”, work is meant as a daycare for adults. Ppl with free time get up to no good with personal ambitions etc, better to keep em cucked.
automation under capitalism only leads to more poverty, destitution, and desperation for the working class. which depending on how you look at it - could be great
Those "ohhhhhhhh ooooooo ohhhhhh oooooooooo" parts 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is brilliant! One of the best TED talks I've ever watched!
This guy is amazing 😂
Ma Boi came on Ted Talk with a whole comedy routine & it was fire!
this actually needs more views
Haha, the part about the Dyson vacuum 🤣
Ohhhhhh!!! Ohhh!!! If only I had a billion dollars ...... to give to Pardis Parker so .... so he could give back ..... to the comedians of the world! This is such a great bit - it killed me. Love how you draw it out too- that look at the audience, brilliant. Well done! Was it infinitely satisfying to say for real 'thank you for coming to my Ted Talk"?
Looking for side hustle earlier and now I watched this 🤣💯

It was a great pleasure to receive a great message by a person having great sense of humour. I am inspired deeply. Wish to him for face to face conversation.
Timely! Such a beautiful delivery.
I don’t turn on a Ted talk expecting to laugh the entire time lol. Good point too. I mean they usually have a chuckle but the tone here was just wild xD
the concept of grind can exist at its peak only if you are aiming it at the right direction. Grind on yourself, be better as a human...not as a worker
Thats hilarious. I'm going to have to look this guy up. Absolutely right about "The Grind" being pushed by corporations. They're starting to find out about "The Burnout" now, though.
One of the best talks ever. Seriously
Not sure if stand up comedy or ted talk 😂. One of the best presenter at ted ive seen and the message is great too
This is absolutely amazing
Forget about grinding to get rich, you gotta grind now to just keep up with the cost of living.
Oh man !!
The speaker is tremendous full of zeal💯💯
What an amazing mood changer! Totally hysterical!
he's on par with George Carlin's honesty humor.
Omg , I wanna meet this person . This video have like amazing aura 💜🤗
hahahah bless your soul man. loved your speech! hope they pay you decenttly for it
Love this talk. While hard work is important, Thrive On Vibes is about finding happiness and balance in life despite the world’s pressure to grind. Thrive On!
4:39. "It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor." -- Seneca, Letter 2.
So true. The whole point of technology is to make things easier. Why is it, then, that people are working more hours for less relative money than they were 50 years ago?
Because we've made work the goal, rather than the method. See also the obesssion with "job creation", and the prevalent notion that people who don't work are unworthy of a decent life.
Because we haven't revolted to force them to pay us fairly. The employers get away with paying us less because, unfortunately, as a whole we let them. We, as a whole, don't value our time and health so why should they?
Bruno's family was actually really poor when he was growing up. Dude was living with his sister till his late 20s I believe. Dude's set was still pretty funny lol
Amazing !
If you wanna get rich, you need
- A tonne of luck or
- No respect for other humans
Few people get to the point of saying "You know, I earn enough",
no matter what they are making.
It’s funny that we works in Hollywood he looks like an actor I have seen before
👏👏 interesting Ted talk 👌
Did not know TED does comedy now, this guy is great xD
Oh they have comedians from time to time, you should check out some older ones like James Veitch or Daniel Sloss. There's probably others.
This was funny; it's like he puts the word door in Doordash, the ultimate grind job.
I enjoyed this but it was more of a comedy skit than a Ted talk. Wish he talked more about why society’s expectations to “grind” are harmful or how to reframe your mindset.
Who’s was the best Ted talk I’ve ever heard
Patience is a virtue but commitment is a heuristic.
Haha great stand-up with a good message
He's good!
Hey Pardis, you should book your shows in Europe’s major cities, starting with Amsterdam, because you are a great performer. I would like to see more of your shows on your CZcams channel. Filip
Ingeniously 😂
Man, you're amazing😂
Good stand up set. Funny. I'd go see him somewhere.
Magnificent person reading this… The truth is you are confident and good enough already with who you are, where you are at and what you have right now to have the success you want in life. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn that skill and go after it! I believe in you so much! Have an awesome day! 🌟- Love, Nat ❤️
how do you call the skill of getting paid for ideas or giving orders? and what's the lowest amount of money and work to get certified as such? ideally i would freelance this operation, so i don't have to do it on schedule. ideas and pressure don't go well together
was this a stand up comedy ? this was hilarious 😂
Life's short stressful kills, and corporations just yell, "next".
good job
I used to work 65+ hrs a week for an 18hr teaching contract alongside a 14 hr learning support job. That’s 32 paid hrs a week but I used to put in shifts of regularly over 65hrs.
Take into consideration I had no extra work to do for the learning support job- all the extra work was for the teaching job alone. So that was 33 hrs of unpaid work for an 18hr teaching contract. Insanity.
I would never ever agree nor allow myself to work like that again. Horrific management.
And this happened in the UK by the way….an insight into the state of affairs in UK education in the last couple decades
I work in education as well and frequently hear stories like this, there seems to be a really disproportionate perspective on how long tasks in education actually take to complete. Every teacher I know, does things like marking exams and preparing lessons in their spare time.
Very cool
This was refreshing! Didn't expect a funny segment, but it was quite good.
The line between stand up comedy and Ted talk is officially blurred
I was expecting a talk on how grind causes burnout and how studios go bankrupt because the industry doesn't pay for the amount of work and doesn't need companies to be financially stable to exploit them. But this work too 😅
If you listen closely, he sounds a bit like Chris Rock emphasizing the points he makes.
Leaving a comment, incase this becomes famous.
The 2nd coming of Rodney Dangerfield!!!! Luv this guy
Well shouted. I’ve always especially hated people who say, “It’s dog eat dog!” As if figurative cannibalism is somehow a purified version of its literal counterpart. Dude! That’s nothing to be proud of! And truth be told, you’re actually a cowardly cannibal. Because I know for damned sure you’re not actually eating any of the corpses that lie in the wake of your success. Why don’t you say what you really mean? Why don’t you just say, “My humanity is an illusion. I’m really just another animal surviving on a planet. And the sooner you jettison your humanity too, the sooner I can do you in as well, and then pretend that I ever had any interest in actually devouring your yucky corpse.” -Phill, Las Vegas
HBO said no… Netflix said no… TED says YES! Sure seems like he’s been grinding to me
His voice 🔥😅
If you've enjoyed not only Pardis Parker's jokes but also the message, I'd suggest reading the book "Bullshit jobs" by David Graeber. It has some thought-provoking ideas about the phenomenom of our obession with work.
I know the intention is to entertain and question work and wealth centered thinking.. but most things "worth" striving for include a "grind" - relationships, being a father etc all require focus and long term dedication. So it's not the grind I'd be opposed to, it's the goal one is grinding for ;-)
Love it! So true, money helps but your life, family and health is not worth it.
This was a good segment 👏🏿
This guy a comedian...? I gotta see more of this guy 😄
The robots part is so true
It'll fix you humans that aren't doing things well
Good for the lot of ya
Go robots!
This is hilarious & true. 😂

He was very good and a breath of fresh air. I don’t agree with not grinding but I value his perspective

FYI Dyson Vacuum cleaners are really so good that you will realize your old vacuum was actually a scam. (Beater bar and tiny hole, it's just hiding the dirt)
Liked before i even watched the video just for the title
eh, the dyson vacuum cleaner is too heavy anyway. If i’m cleaning a large space I prefer to use a standard vacuum. I just glide
Adrenochrome is pretty expensive. Prob why they never give back to society. And even then it's a tax write off, not an act of kindness.
Kindness and charity is giving when you don't have. Not when you have more than enough to give to all, while you give to 1.
I enjoyed this.
Also "grinding is a CONcept"

You remind me of George Carlin. good on ya!
I find it hilarious the new words people come up with for what we all have been doing for centuries and act like it is a new thing as well. Working wears you out. And the people don’t really care anymore anyway like they used to 50-60 years ago. Completely different culture now. This is why death is a reward and should never be feared. When you are old you will agree.
That cute squeak in his voice.
I am a Farmer(36),since 5 years, with a nice but not big income, i had a lot of cool tech jobs before, i have some stocks, i have the biggest garden in Town. But all the time my uncles come in, which are not realy rich or so, and telling me i have to the get a "real" job and GRIND like an idiot to get something for my aftercomings. They are all in pension and still had not figured out what happiness is and that it is far more important you like the work you do than have a zero more on the bank account.
👍👍🏿
Nothing wrong with grinding you just gotta grind 😂

I moved to the city for the Chance in a better job… My 1st job the department got shut down and move states. My 2nd job-My managers were both pastors wives and took all the early days and only let me get off early 1 day a week. My 3rd job.. I ended up with a crappy manager and then we had a bank robbery. My 4th job… I hustled until the department shut down and moved states… My 5th job (still at the same company) I was there for almost 2 years then the department shut down due to being bought out.
My current job - if I don’t return to the office in two weeks I will be fired. My daily driver (52 chevy) is in the shop and I am pregnant.
I AM SO OVER HUSTLE CULTURE!!!!
cant halt the grindset
Yes! Exactly! Let robots take our jobs!... The natural evolution of technology is an automated society, where money doesn't exist.
People don't seem to realise that society has conditioned them to work, and compete, for the benefit of the few at the top.
I Hope it happens in my lifetime if that’s true
Dyson, the owner of the company producing those vacuum cleaners, pays ZERO taxes. BOYCOT his products.
