    Polystyrene gave two major problems. If they caught fire they put out toxic fumes as well as dripping fire from the ceilings. Many a chip-pan fire in kitchens resulted in this.
    There was also an obsession (1960s if I recall) when people lined walls with polystyrene rolls (about 2-3mm) underneath wallpaper for insulation. Same noxious problem.
    Have we progressed since? Foam cladding!!!

    OH NO DUCK YOU WILL BE THROWING YOUR HAMMER AT US HERE IS WHAT I USED TO DO CARRY A COUPLE OF 3 KW FAN HEATERS WARM ALL DAY 12 INCHES OF SNOW OUTSIDE A BOARD LIKE THAT FOR MY KETTLE MY HEATERS. AND MY RADIO
