The way the duct tape shredded around the post-it note explosion was a good visualization of just how violent the paper explosions are. Wow!
why does the paper explode
@@seucos_garage the cellulose shatters under too much force
I laughed when I realized how much tape you put on there. I was expecting a couple of layers. Using the lathe was definitely big brain!
Shitload...it's a technical term
"duct tape enhanced" was no joke
Ye lol
I always used to love saying "literally oodles" but now that millenials for some reason have to say the word literally constantly. Especially when it's not necessary, the joke goes over thwir head and they rhink I'm doing it too.
It sucks that millenials ruined something so great. But I'm sure gen x ruined lots of things. Beavis and Butthead was basically a documentary about all the things wrong with Gen Xers. But that's what made it so brilliant.
Metric Fucktonne. It's a technical term, used by almost every country on Earth
The explosive force of pressed paper never ceases to amaze me.
These are the questions we need answers to! Keep up the good work!
The questions we never knew needed to be asked!🤣🤣
This video reminds me old videos, and I'm very happy with it. And great to hear Anni again! :)
I was also happy to hear Anni :)
Me too..

What happened to Anni?
@@EJM1224 in another video they say she got a job at IKEA, so she doesn't have the time to do HPC videos anymore. Being a professional channel is full time job too, there is a lot of effort on planning, filming, editing etc.
The fact that a Pepsi bottle can withstand 2000 pounds of vertical force is mind blowing

really fortuitous points of failure this time around! the explosions actually decided to face the camera for once
It is great hearing Anni's reactions again!
Maybe the Play-Doh animals will come back in the next video 🤞

8:00 I like Anni yelling "Oi!" in the background when the paper explodes.
Here in Finland we call duct tape "Jeesusteippi", which literally means "Jesus tape"
It does miracles
What Jesus tape cannot fix god has abandoned
Oooohhhhh! You’ve made a Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel! They use those on rockets, ya know! 🚀
More common on SCBA tanks…
If it moves but shouldn't: duct tape. If it doesn't move but it should: WD40
I have to make video about how much easier stuck stuff is to move after WD40 :D
@@HydraulicPressChannel Yes! Find some old rusted mechanisms in a scrapyard, try to shift them with the press, then spray with WD40 and try again. Great idea!
You just have to be careful never to let them come into contact with each other. The resulting paradox could destroy the universe.
@@StraightOuttaJarhois Spoiler: lube beats tape
@@torydavis10 true dat brotha
the wd40 breaks down the adhesive and the duct tape is worthless.

Hard to believe but not yet :D
I think Annie's reaction in the background is the best gauge of how it went.
That face shot to the camera was a rare gem. As always, nice work.👍

Also the duct tape sticky notes explodes while you are talking is great🤣🤣🤣
Oh shit! I haven't seen one of your videos in a while! Glad to have you back on my feed!
I’d love to see you try this with different tapes! (Gaff tape, paper tape, aluminum tape, etc.)
Dont forget flex tape?
That was glorious!!! Taping up a ball was brilliant!
paper covered in duct tape is wierdest thing i saw today.
good work Laur and Anni you are creatively destructive as usual
Was that a Metric sheet-load of tape, or a Freedom Unit sheet-load? 😁

I love this guy's accent so much. Hits my brain just right.
It would be super interesting to see similar items compared with similar weights of duct tape applied but on one the tape is applied carefully and smoothly with good tension, and the other it's just slobbed on there like how people normally try to use tape.
Definitely. I'm pretty sure that the can as an example would have been much stronger if the tape had been wound tighter. The reason why I think so is, because if it had been wound tighter the can would have been capable of distributing the force to the tape much better
@@niclaswyatt866 Maybe, but the can is still quite capable of buckling inward before it has been compressed enough for internal pressure to prevent that. It should make a huge difference for the pressure vessels, though, and maybe things like the stack of post-its which behave like fluid at failure.
That was funny. Brilliant narration. Loved the lathe application. Might be first time in human history a lathe has been used to apply duct tape to something.
That was awesome! Easy to predict the soda bottle, but I must say I had higher hopes for the can! Maybe try a can of beans or similar instead, as they have less profiled ends..
..and you could probably use the lathe to wrap it..
Easy to predict the soda ?!? I took a ton of pressure ! Do you have any stock tips ?
would be no different, the issue is not the ends, it is that metal buckles where plastic stretches
If you ever decide to revisit this idea, I wonder how the aluminum can would fare if you wrapped it in both directions like you did with the post-it notes, to support and seal the top and bottom a bit?
Glad to see you're using the GOOD duct tape! I have about half a roll left of that from a couple of years back. I use the cheaper (3M) stuff when I don't need the really good stuff! TESA all the way, baby! There's soooo much glue on that tape, and it's super thick!
All I thought of with the wrapped up post-it notes was "So that's what a 'gift' from The Joker would look like!" XD Love you guys! Always have and always will!
How lovely to hear Anni in the background. Thanks Anni, we miss you!
The football and soda bottle were awesome! How do you keep the soda and other liquids from wreaking havoc on the press and other nearby things? Seems like it would be a pain to clean up.
That's why diet is used
3:15 The regularity of the ridges forming suggests some already-existing weaker points in the metal used to make the can. Very interesting.
Another great show very well done.
"Because why not?" I feel like this is a motto you live by.😂
I Like the concept.
It was the most interesting video since a long time.

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Great results! Please crush the roll of tape with the layers oriented like the paper. Maybe it too will explode but since it is made with some petroleum products.
This is a really interesting one.
Really need some high speed footage of post-it notes wrapped in duct tape. That was much violent than I was expecting.
Actually if somebody was wondering about the smoke coming out of the bottles, it's from the immense pressure release when the bottle bursts and the pressure fells drastically to ambient pressure and with it the temperature, which in turn has an effect on the surrounding water vapors in the air as it is condensing along the path of the flowing redissolved co2 gas that was bound in the coke before. At least this would be my best guess.
Yeah we figured...
wrapping stuff with the lathe was genius, i'm sure that cut the time to do it by like 90%, haha.
CZcams has stopped recommending your videos to me but I still found you
That's Awsome that Anni came by to help. It's been awhile since I heard her mentioned.
And here we go!
Love the paper explosion! My favorite 😂 oh love the cards too 😂 So glad Anni is back!
Nice shot, sir!
1:08 I’d have loved a se it random secondary test where you crush the bottle to exactly this kind of point, then release pressure to see how much it reverts to its original shape
This was a great video!!
Fun video, and great to hear Anni's voice again!

.your command of english language is improving
Your commentary cracks me up. You are so blunt. "it was a total pain in the ass to put on" 🤣
"Okay, it's much stron...BOOM...ger."
Could you try to see if there is a difference between a can that has been shaken up, vs a can that hasn’t been shaken? Would be interesting to know, what if any differences the internal pressure would have.
Is that Anni I hear at 6:31?
Welcome back!
There is other types of tape that is way stronger than regular duct tape you should try several other types too thanks for sharing buddy
Like fiberglass strapping tape: probably won't stretch as much but a heck of a lot of tensile strength.
I love this channel

So Good to Hear Annie in the background.
Love You Guys!! My Subscription to HPC is starting to get a Patina! 🤣🥰
Every video you make is interesting! I wonder how you come up with these cool ideas?
Hi Ani! We miss you! 🥰
I use a LOT of time to get new ideas. I can book a whole day just to get one video idea :D
How about adding a position measurement? Combine with force and you get how tought material is. Like how fast the force goes up vs. deformation.
Interesting observation: the "smoke" that came out of the soda bottle when it exploded was actually CO2 gas. When the soda was being compressed in the bottle, the CO2 in solution was being pressed out of the liquid (I think) and actually cooling off. After all, if we take C02 and compress it enough then it turns into a liquid. This is why the "smoke" that comes out of the bottle drops quickly to the table and disperses. This same smoke effect is seen from dry ice (which is just a solid form of C02)
I could be wrong with these assumptions, but I find it interesting. Does anyone else have any other ideas as to what's going on here?
Probably wasn't pressed out of the liquid, more like the sudden depressurisation made it come out of the liquid. The same smoke appears when you just open a bottle. Probably water in the air condensing on cold CO2
The sudden change in pressure is causing water vapor to form. Same thing happens when you twist a spring water bottle tight and, using pressure, pop open and launch the cap
you guys are close! when a gas is compressed it rises in temp. when pressure is released quickly the gas temp. drops quickly. very cold. creates fog.
Co2 can't exist as a liquid at atmospheric pressure, it sublimates from solid to gas
2:17 When you tried to hold it in but didn't make it to the toilet in time...
"sheetload of tape"
