Yes, often times people never discuss the basic fundamentals of the GAS engines, in reality they are all highly similar, but Quality is the main differentiating factor. BTW, I've since repaired the Stripped exhaust port and this old engine is repairable, therefore I will try it out before doing the G290 swap.

hey dude! Guess what, right after this video I decided to try to fix the stripped threads for the exhaust. I drilled out the old threads and just used a thicker screw and problem solved! I have also purchased a new (FAKE) carb, and we will try to get the old Zenoah in this ting running. I hate to throw away an engine I could repair, you know. Major break thought .

I bought a Zenoah G320 off E-Bay for my Redcat Rally XR someone took out of a 5T, brand new, I got it for $254.. shipped. That was 6 months ago. Now that you're going to put one in your Rally. I wish I had done it sooner I could give you my opinion. But I'll just wait for your opinion and set up so that I can get it right. Can't wait to see both Zenoah's ripping.

well unfortunately that Redcat Rally I showed in this video had a serious runaway due to a locked up throttle servo and a crash at top speeds right into a curb. Now I need to bend the chassis back and replace some parts, but the drivetrain is fine, anyway, the G320 going into that bad boy.. No crash will keep us down.
I have one of them and it's performing really good much more power and rpms which give my truck more top speed and way better acceleration

hell yeah man thats sick! i just traded my g320 full mod ported esp i had with tuned pipe for the dbxl for some other rc stuff and cash. I wish i knew you were looking for one man i let it go cheap! i included a new 813 carb and bartalone pipe for only 400$. the motor was 550 alone

You really need to get a goped, man. The G290 is an excellent motor for a Sport. Just look at the most recent video on my channel of swapping my cy290rc motor from my rovan baja 5b onto my sport.
hey my dude! I've been looking for a goPED for a long time, believe it or not. But they are not cheap, usually about 4-6 hundred for a normal GSR model that needs some work. I'm not sure I want the Sport model. What do you think?
@@hybrid32494 Gopeds cheap compared to a freaking Primal Raminator, which has a nice exhaust, but the dumb cheap chinese pocket bike engine instead of a more quality engine like a performance 46cc CY GP460, which there are tons of mods for and professional engine porters, mainly supported by the Goped community. Why Primal went to the effort to design a sick exhaust for a shit engine is a damn mystery to me. My point is they are money pits just like rc cars are, so little excuse to avoid them for that reason.
ANYWAYS, I got my Goped Sport from a Walmart hobo for $90, I'm serious. It was pretty messed up, though, and still is lol, but I poured some money into it and now it's pretty neat. I do understand why you wouldn't want a Sport because of the 6 inch hard tires, compared to more stable 10 inch normal pneumatic tires, so if that is a large concern for you, I would get an air tire first, and then try out a Sport. From my experience, I've gotten use to hard tires and I feel fine on them :)

Really interesting video. I like that you went into great detail and actually know your shit. I personally don't know anything about the 1/5 scale game. I am learning tho and who knows maybe I'll dive in one day. As a matter a fact I was recently looking for that orange Rovan that you got a while back but they are sold out right now. I used your link in your video. And I definitly want that particular model with all the aluminum upgrades and shock towers and bulkhead reinforcements and what not. whats up bro! glad you learned something from this video, I try to approach all topics from a beginner point of view and then progress into the serious issues. And yes, the King Motors orange Baja's are sold out unfortunately. The Gas RC life is fun, totally different from nitro, and also have a steep learning curve. Once you get one, you will appreciate the durability, and the craftsmanship on them. Nitrogang!.

Yeah the 290s pretty crazy I’m 165 pounds and I put it on my go ped scooter spindle shaft driven and with a proper pipe I’m going at least 32 mph with the weight of the scooter and me those engines are straight crazy it’s a good performance card they give you two let’s see some action I wanna see some jumps man I’ve been doing nitro RC planes lately
That bolt size issue is easily repairable! You've got 2 options.... Thread it for a larger bolt or it can be fixed to take the bolt size your wanting to use. I can't recall what they call the process but Harbor freight likely has what you need. Basically you tap the inner diameter then they make a reduction tread that twists into the thread you tap. The bolt then pressure fits the reduction threads. I have done this on Automotive applications and it works well.

hey bro!! Yup, you got that right. I totally forgot to mention that stating with a Zenoah engine is the best thing you can do if you're going to modding this. In fact ESC mods the Zenoah motors and sells them already, im sure you know.

@@hybrid32494 take it apart and see if you got deep scratches or worn spots on the cylinder. If not get all new gaskets, seals, and bearings. Get a .005 gasket at ddm and bam. Fresh built engine with more power.

hey dude, yes! My thought exactly. I will be doing lots of RPM testing and speed testing on this car, we will see what the top RPM on a stock G290 is, that is what really matters. I have bottom line numbers for both HY and CY engines, now I need the facts for the Zenoah in real world conditions.

Let me add my 2 cents if you notice the 990 stops at 29 cc. 32 and up gets the bigger more power performing 1107 Walbro carburetor. Zen engines are awesome no doubt. Rovan engines are great too! Zen has better quality control. Better bearings and better seals. But for the price you cant a beat a Rovan engine also King Motor 34cc and 30.5. Allen had assisted them both in some Rovan and those king Motor engines and thats one reason they run well is because they listened to his suggestions. However its evident they do not listen to all of his suggestions, hence the poor choices of internals for the 71 cc Rovan shown on my Channel. Any who just wanted to share! Also Zenoahs exhaust port timing is 180 degrees this really aids in the wonderful rpms these engines produce.

I just edited that part out, because not many would even understand what I'm talking about. They only care about WALBRO. Anyway, yes, the KM 30.5 engines are terrific, I totally agree. These are my first Zenoah motors, I'm super excited to do a good long term test and comparison.

Great purchase mate!!! Best bang for buck is the Zenoah G320RC for sure. I noticed you're still using that crappy pipe on the Baja. Unfortunately you will have to invest in a proper tuned pipe if you want max performance from that engine.

Hey Hybrid! Great tutorial on those engines and the different brands alot of info! I seen in the comments that your going to try to put the helicoils in the exhaust bolts to save the engine and have a nice backup that would be a great video! On the new engines are you going to put some screen protections on them and outerwears too? I've used screen and JB Weld works pretty good just wondering? Can't wait to see the new one running in the Baja! OGNG🤔😉😎💪👍
Ok i have a correction. In 1993 the traxxas had a zenoah g2dhp as the g230rc had only just came out in 2000-2001

Anyway, I just did some more research and I'm finding the G230rc everywhere. this is what it says online " Originally introduced by Traxxas in 1993, the 2WD Monster Buggy - # 6002 - was Factory Assembled and came with a 23cc Zenoah G230RC engine. The model was later re-launched as the "Gas Buggy"."
@@hybrid32494 then its a typo thats been repeated. I knew one of the zenoah engineers that helped design and R&D the g230rc in 1999. It was zenoahs first four transfer port small cc engine. The g230rc replaced the g2dhp that was the common 22cc gas rc car engine of the time.
My obr 33.5 has a stripped muffler screw.. I stuck a bigger screw in it. Working good over a year later but I'm going to catch hell with it in the future ☹🤦🏻♂️
hey man! That is one thing I'm considering doing too. The only other problem currently on this old motor is the carb is for sure bad, it's not flowing fuel. No big deal. I might do a repair and see how it goes, but need a new replica carb first.

hey bro! I own an EXCEED Nitro Rally Monster, it's the USA version of the HSP chassis, so yes!. I've had it since 2013 and the 2-speed BABY is terrific, check my channel for videos on it, they will blow you away. Just gotta run it normally and not jump it, it'll be fine.

Hey man!! The most common carb people get is the 990 carb. Its popular because it does not have a choke and it has better internal fuel flow. Look into it, ive used them myself, very good carbs.

Hello hey great videos big fan! I have question maybe you know about iam new to the 1/5 scale rc I have rampage mt I just installed a new zenoah G320RC from Dave's motors in Utah in it since I bought the rampage used and could not start the original 32cc motor and out of frustration bought the G320RC complete new ready to go,and was wondering I've been breaking in the engine and I have a homemade silencer a small axe can drilled out both ends stuffed some alum foil in it for baffle & ducktape around it to hold it on to truck to be able run it in my neighborhood for noise control it really lowers the cracking sound to half the noise pollution and kinda wondering it might be running a little hot! I havent full throttle it yet alot of idle& just half to 3/4 throttle for 1 to 2 seconds burst and for about 6 to 7 minutes run time up and down my street. So If I spit a little on my finger and touch the chambered part of my exhaust redcat special pipe the spit sizzles so wondering if normal and should I keep running it like this for now until I get out on a course?? Any input would be great , like i said iam not running it super hard running rich and semi loud lol!plus I noticed the cover on the zenoah dosent allow air flow over or thru cylinder head when driving forward the plastic cover that covers head and top of spark plug blocks airflow if u understand? I know the Zenoah fan covers are slightly different from the regular CY/HY fan covers, but they still allow adequate airflow, should not be a problem. I recommend you use a temp gun to get actual temperature readings we could discuss. BTW, which oil are you running? And also which mixture are you running 25:1. I've been doing about 30:1, seems to be ideal.
What spring is in the standard baja 26cc 8000 or 6000
hey bro! Do you mean an Original HPI Baja with the Fuel engine?? I would assume all original Bajas came with a 6K spring, which is pretty standard for any motor under 29CC, it seems, based on my experience. You could take a look, if it's not a red clutch spring then it's gotta be a 6K one for sure, unless somebody has already made an upgrade on it (usually the case).
@@hybrid32494 its actually a red clutch spring that's in it and yes its an original 26cc HPI baja. I'm looking to upgrade the engine.....really don't know what one to get out of the Zenoah G290rc and the G320. So many mixed opinions. I will also be running a DDM fast pipe. What are your thoughts
