- It’s time to hear how the mighty Quilter Aviator Cub 50 takes pedals. Spoiler Alert! It takes pedals like a champ!

I just got this amp yesterday from Sweetwater. Your previous videos played a big part in my decision to buy it. I love it so far without any pedals, but I am really looking forward to expeimenting with lots of combinations. Keep making the great content!
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you found the videos helpful! I think you’re gonna dig the amp.
DANG!! That fuzz tone is really good!!!
That’s a Harmon Silicon Fuzz Face clone. $85 on Reverb. Highly recommend.
Could you please do another video demonstrating this? Here’s the problem. Many of us push our amps to get amp breakup, then occasionally kick in a drive/distortion pedal to give us that “heavy sweet” little extra. The problem with a lot of these amps isn’t that they take pedals well. It’s that when you push the amp, the pedals do weird things to the amp. Tone Master, for instance(I have one & love it but…). Once you get in the 7-10 vol range(amp)& kick in a drive pedal, it either turns to mush, completely overrides the reverb & vibrato, or both(depending on the pedal). The pedals work “ok” if you give it headroom. But that’s not how we use our amps. Often times I use my amp w/o pedals & the amp is where I get my sound. So setting up a pedal board to address the shortcomings of my amp, isn’t reasonable. I(& likely many others) would like to hear the amp in this scenario. Sorry for the long winded reply. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video. Sounds great! How are the tones with the Quilter at bedroom volumes?
Pretty good! I live in an apartment and haven’t bothered anyone yet.
Great playing! Will the line out drive a 1x12 or does it need a powered cab?
Thanks! From what I understand it will not power a cab with the line out. The Mach 3 will but these aviators are meant to be stand alone units. I’ve written to quilter a couple times and they are super quick and helpful with their responses.
This amp sounds great! Great Demo. Does it have plenty of headroom to cut through full band(Country Rock)? Thanks for the Demo of the amp..
Thanks! I played with a dude who had a mesa boogie half stack and the quilter held up surprisingly well.
Is that one of those LP Tribute models? How do you like it? I'm really interested in the p90/Honeyburst(which is what I think you have?)
I love my tribute. It’s nice and light. Neck is super comfortable. I had a luthier instal Fralin Hum Cancelling P-90’s in it as well as a Graphtech bridge with string saver saddles. Great playing and sounding guitar.
I have a Tiny Terror and Orange 60-watt cab and classic rock sounds awesome. I am considering buying a Mach 3 but not sure how it would compare to a real tube sound. I played with one a little, but it takes time to understand the controls in comparison to what I am used to with the TT. How close to the tube sound can you get with the Quilter, and can you share the Marshall settings you used in this video so I can try to emulate what you got for sound.
Quilter gets very close to genuine tube sounds. I haven’t compared the cub directly to a tube amp but overall I was able to get very good fender style clean sounds.
For the Marshall tones I was using an Xotic SL drive with the volume and tone around noon and the drive at one o’clock.
what pedals are you running for the demos
Boss DD-3, TC spark boost, Tone City Sweat Cream, Behringer TO800, Xotic SL Drive, no name fuzz face clone and a Moen Jimi Nova.
Is it loud enough to gig with???
100%. I rehearsed with a loud drummer and another guitarist who ran a Mesa through a 2x12. The Quilter totally held its own.
a little eye candy of your pedal board would have been nice....
I didn’t want to brand of pedal to color anyone’s perception of the tones. But a pedalboard update is coming!
