Greer Southland Harmonic Overdrive
We have another bitchin’ pedal from Greer Amps. The Southland Harmonic Overdrive has more gain, more presence and more special sauce than it’s Lightspeed little brother. Stacks well with other pedals and cleans up nice too! Enjoy 😉

This is a fun way to design your own overdrive/distortion sound without learning electronics. or even for someone who scratch builds or does mods to get ideas!
Absolutely!
The Korean AS80 and AS120 were great guitars: perfect blues machines. The problem with the ArtCore guitars that came out in 2003, was that they didn't have the (Korean) Super 58 pickups. Only the AS103 Custom had pickups that came close: Super 58 Custom humbuckers, but they cost €799.- when they came out. The other ArtCore AS models cost ± half of that. So it's not surprising that the sound couldn't satisfy you. It was only a few years ago that they upgraded the pickups of the AS93 to (Chinese) Super 58. I've been owning my 1997 AS120 for 25 years now. It was originally ƒ1995.- which was ±$999.- and it had been sold for a couple of weeks, but someone had told the buyer that he should have bought an Epiphone Sheraton II, so he traded it after a very short ownership, which made it possible for me to buy it at ± half price, and to be honest: I would NOT trade it for a Sheraton II. I did one optical upgrade: I bought a 1978 Gibson The Paul and its old owner had glued a bound tortoise pickguard, probably from an Ibanez AS200 onto it with a rather weak adhesive. It was too big for a Paula, so I put that on my AS120 instead of the original black one that I kept in the case. So my sunburst AS120 looks as beautiful as an AS200. Everybody who sees my guitar goes: "Wow!" and that's the way I like it. There is one minus to the butterscotch AS80 IMHO: you can see the scarf joint that holds the headstock. On the sunburst AS80 they covered that with dark paint.
Nice review! Do you still have it/like it? Any issues arise after the honeymoon? Seriously GASsing for this guitar!
Thanks! I ended up selling it to fund another purchase. But I really did enjoy it and miss it quite a bit.
@@blazeofglory1982 Thanks for the reply. I have permanent scars from kicking my own ass for selling guitars too soon.
They did the Fiorana GTS which is more the Super Strat Model and the Ascari GTS was Smaller version with a Les Paul fret board length, this also comes as a HH, I got one for wife and added 2 SH-5 Seymour Duncan Custom Pickups and can do about anything in the world you want with this, also added Locking tuners as well. The Fiorana GTS was a Beast, both are Set Necks and a Outstanding Value
Locking tuners are a must.
@@blazeofglory1982 The SH-5 was EVH's main Mystery Pick up for Years, he even cut off a reporter who once printed he used a SH-5 from Rolling Stone Magazine. If ever searching for EVH Tone try a SH5 Custom
Great review. I am planning to have one soon :)
Thanks for watching!
I've got 3 SG's now and I've replaced the pickups in all 3. I went with a set of Seth Lover's in the SG Tribute (with 50's wiring in place of the PCB), a set of Pearly Gates in the SG Standard (also with 50's wiring and push/pulls for coil splitting), and Saturday Night Specials in an SG Modern. All 3 sound great in their own right, but my favorite is the Standard with the Pearly Gates. Great sound and tonal versatility.
I’ve been so curious about out the Saturday night specials. How do they sound compared to the PG’s?
Good video
Thanks!
My dude play that guitar looks amazing and I wanted to know how it sounded. 😢
I might get one 😉
I bought a Gibson firebird reverse v new for 375 w case in 70 when i was a teen . sold it long ago , now i"m nearing 70 and got the epi fb it is good plays great . I like the pups. Nice job !
Thanks!
Beautiful guitar
I have a question I have this amp, but I want to replace a speaker with something like this. Eminence Legend 1058 10" Guitar Speaker, 75 Watts at 8 Ohms will this speaker work with my amp same ohms, the same inches higher wattage I want your opinion
I believe so. I’m not an amp tech but I believe as long as the impedance matches, the higher wattage speaker should work fine on a lower wattage amp. Others can chime in if you agree.
sounds like an OD to me lol
🤣
man thinking of picking one of these up, someone on marketplace has it for 160$
So good!!
Thank you!
Ok …no offense, do you know any other riffs.
I heard, that many have had many problems with blackstar. Is this amplifier unreliable? do you still use it? did it give you problems?
I do still use it. I’ve had it for a few months now. Everything has been great! I’ve owned a few black stars and have never had a problem. Knock on wood.
Sounds cool. Keep it coming
I have a Tiny Terror and Orange 60-watt cab and classic rock sounds awesome. I am considering buying a Mach 3 but not sure how it would compare to a real tube sound. I played with one a little, but it takes time to understand the controls in comparison to what I am used to with the TT. How close to the tube sound can you get with the Quilter, and can you share the Marshall settings you used in this video so I can try to emulate what you got for sound.
Quilter gets very close to genuine tube sounds. I haven’t compared the cub directly to a tube amp but overall I was able to get very good fender style clean sounds. For the Marshall tones I was using an Xotic SL drive with the volume and tone around noon and the drive at one o’clock.
Excellent demo! Really nice how you went thru all the pickups
Thanks so much!
I ended up sending mine back. I thought the guitar sounded really muddy. There was also problems with the frets on mine. They skipped the QC on the one I got. My first Harley Benton as well, after being recommended them by a friend. I don’t think I’ll be buying another.
That’s a bummer. I had to do some work on mine to make it playable. I ended up selling mine but I kinda regret. I get what you mean about the muddy sound. Had I kept mine I would have upgraded the pickups and wiring.
Thank you for the nice review. This PUs can be wire for splitting. I have my neck PU with a push-pull knob for that. And oh God, rolling back the volume control of your splitted neck PU is another level of versatility, as if you were playing another guitar.
Thanks! Good to hear that they split well too.
How thick is the neck on these?
It’s a soft V. Vintage but very comfortable.
I’m a big fan of bigger necks. I may be trading an r8 for one of these
Nice. Not sure what pickups you actually have though. Vintage noiseless are gen 1. N3 are several generations later. My understanding is these days gen 1 vintage noiseless pickups are sold with upper end MIM guitars and they were originally in the Clapton signature strat. So what pickups are they?
It’s a 2018 model so I think they might be the first generation. Not quite sure though 😬
I am really impressed by the sound ..... and the combinations you have here ... I could very well want to have one of these .... Thank you for your review
Thanks for watching!
Love Mythos. Great playing.
Thanks!
I have this exact guitar. It was sitting around for the past 5 yrs and finally decided to learn guitar and it sounds so good!
I got the BC Artist and I love it really much. I like the stock sound like it is. I just have a valve pedal in front of it for a transparent valve overdrive. I mostly use only the clean channel. For clean tones I just use the clean channel without a pedal. The channel 1 of the Blackstar HT Dual for edge of breakup sound and the second channel for overdrive tone. If I use the crunsh channel with the Blackstars first channel I have distortion and if I use the second Channel with the crunsh channel it gets fuzzy. From clean zu fuzz with one pedal. If you also use dual tone, you have 9 channels to use. xD The clean channel of the BC has much more clarity in my ears. With a transparent OD you can keep this awesome clariry and add some drive. The clean channel of the BC is amazing. I also play blues and Rok n Roll, so I rarely need distortion or fuzz. I bought it used, like new, for 450€. :)
I love the artist! Maybe I’ll get the 212 one day.
If the neck is on the slim side that's my kind of guitar and the price was right.
Nice chops. Sounds great!
Thanks!
Hello. Good job. I would buy theese pickups. But I wouldnt buy wrong pickups so there are only one version of "vintage noiseless pickups" ? Thanks
Yup! They’re the “vintage noiseless “ set.
I just stumbled unto this as I am eyeing a used one locally. Have you gotten around upgrading the pickups?
I ended up selling it but to tell you truth I regret it! I’m going to pick up another as soon as I’m done with a couple other projects.
@@blazeofglory1982 I'm so sorry to hear that! I saw one locally and looking forward to replacing the middle pickup with a gold Seymour Duncan Phat Cat neck for starters.
New X
Thank you!
EQD Dispatch Master is another great combo delay plus reverb.
How are you liking the Nylon Blue? I just picked up a Overland Gray and am impressed so far.
I love it. Had it for a while now. May still upgrade the pickups at some point but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. Neck is very comfortable as well.
With your shirt you already half way 👍🏻
I'm interested in this to run through my effects loop - only if you can get rid of the dry signal.
Great tone! I'm picking one of these up in a few days myself
Thanks! It’s a killer little pedal.
Picked up the Valeton Tube Engibe pedal as well from the coral series. Both are excellent pedals. I'd say tube screamer-esque on the tube engine but warmer though my tube combo.
@mojohinson1540 I’ll have to check that one out!
Do you reckon the SB would serve well as a lead boost, paired with another (more intense) OD pedal? A semi-clean boost, if you will.
I think it would work better as a lead boost rather than clean. It’s got lots of volume on tap.
@@blazeofglory1982 thanks for the quick response, man! That's what I hoped to read!
@@blazeofglory1982 This is really helpful.
What guitar is that?
G&L Ascari Tribute GT-90. Video coming soon.
My frets seem to be quite past ( extended) from the neck What is up ? Fixable ? Ibanez artstar as- 80 Vintage ~ 2005 Korea.. Kind of uncomfortable ..
I would take it to a luthier. They may be able to file down the frets.
There were no Artstars AS80 in 2005. You most likely have a 1995. Many of those terrible handwritten serial numbers start with 5. You should put some masking tape on the side of the fretboard and neck and and file the sharp ends off in a slanted way.
@@gingerbeer914 Thanks for your reply. The light brown sticker inside with Korea stamp at the bottom. , quite clearly reads S/n 7080112 . And s/n handwritten in blue ink . It is quite good in construction and has great intonation set - up by a professional guitar luthier. Any information is appreciated. I can ask the luthier again about the origins of my Artstar -80 . Thanks .
had about the univibe tones?
Come again?
How much treble dialed on the amp?
I generally keep the treble dialed in at around 1 o’clock.
@@blazeofglory1982 My stock P-90 hum-cancels are WAY dark at that setting. Hmmm ...
Is your neck pickup low or high.. Thank you..
I’d say it’s set at a normal distance. Neither high nor low. The pickups are high output so they very touch sensitive.
Why is there so much delay in all of these? It is overbearing.
I like delay. This can be adjusted to taste of course.
Once you get into good humbuckers, and especially if you're upgrading a guitar that came with cheap crap, they're all going to sound great, but I've been very curious about these. I've got some Seth Lovers in an SG type guitar (D'Angelico Brighton Deluxe) and the articulation of these PGs reminds me of the SLs. I'd probably just choose the set with the best price.
I’ve been curious about the Seth lovers. Heard they sound great in Semi hollow guitars.
The crunch sounds good. But it has no Gain before it's halfway up? How does that work?
I know right!?!
@@blazeofglory1982 I guess that's no different than having it maxed out at 1 o'clock, like some others. 😂
Did anyone ever inform you that guitar playing is 90% rhythm/chords and 10% ?????
Nope! 🤣
So basically if im running my normal pedalboard into the dream then into the headrush that would be the same thing right? Also is yhat the m1 or m2 because i heard that maybe the mk2 isn't as loud but i don't know
Yes basically! It’s the MKii.
Considering its a circuit ripoff of one of the most beloved pedals of all time,no wonder why anyone would like it and think they got a steal
Best low budget pedal on market
Agreed!
