- The melody for “Stranger in Paradise” was composed by Alexander Borodin and taken from the “Polovtsian Dances” in his 1890 opera, “Prince Igor.” The song is from the 1953 Broadway musical “Kismet,” winner of the 1954 Tony Award for Best Musical. Songwriters Robert Wright and George Forrest wrote the “Stranger in Paradise” lyrics and the Borodin musical adaptation. The song was performed by Richard Kiley and Doretta Morrow in the original 1953 Broadway cast and by Vic Damone and Ann Blyth in the 1955 film. From the times of “The Arabian Nights,” “Kismet” is set in a fictional Baghdad. The lovers’ duet, sung in a garden, describes the transcendent feelings of love in paradise.
Clarinetist Artie Shaw first recorded the Borodin melody in a 1940 adaptation called “My Fantasy.” The most popular version of “Stranger in Paradise” was Tony Bennett’s 1953 recording, which reached the top at No. 1 in the 1955 UK Singles Chart. Other performers who have recorded the song include Bing Crosby, Sarah Brightman, Johnny Mathis, Engelbert Humperdinck, Gordon MacRae, Sammy Davis Jr., Percy Faith, Al Hirt, Isaac Hayes, Ray Conniff, the Ink spots, George Shearing, and the Supremes, among others. The song is also used as a recurring motif in the 1999 film “Breakfast of Champions.” In this rendition, pianist Charles Manning improvises the hit song “Stranger in Paradise.” - Hudba
One of the most beautiful romantic music's ever composed!!!
Nice,❤thanks.😊
Beautiful
Wonderful. Thank you, Charles. I am familiar with the Borodin melody and with the Stranger in Paradise song but had no idea so many big names had recorded it! Thank you for both the beautiful piano playing - always an absolute treat - and also the information. I shall try to find a track with George Shearing playing it too.
Beautiful! Is there a written arrangement for this available?
This is so nice is there any chance you have any sheet music available for this piece?
Would you mind if I used this as background music for my videos if I link to this video in the description?
Unfortunately, this music is not approved for use as video background music.
@@PianoPizzazz thank you for your response I appreciate your answer
Before I was corrected I thought stranger in paradise was written by Tchaikovsky!
Important to always give the correct compositions credit to the right composers and not mix them up!!!
Let's keep history the truth!!
