  • Howdy! On this flight join me and my Fiance, and our two favorite Canadians for a tour of the Phoenix area in a C172. The tour features a KSDL departure, north to Carefree, south through the Bravo transition then the VFR flyway back to KSDL.
This was my first time with more than one passenger, and it was quite a different feeling! Being responsible for 3 other people whom I care about very deeply was humbling. Thanks for watching!

Hey nice vid man. I personally don't like to fly more than 2 passengers in the skyhawk. I always like to top off the tanks if i'm carrying precious cargo. Can never be too safe when flying loved ones. Happy flying!

Thank you! Yeah, now that I am checked out in the 182, the 172 is only for practice or just one pax.

I've seen an experimental plane use nitrous to perform high rate climb to get over mountains then cruise on regular n/a power. That would be great in these near or at max gross weight situations.

How does it handle with 3 passengers? I’m just about to fly the Cessna 172SP (180hp version)

It definitely struggles a bit. Be sure to do your W&B properly. We had to leave fuel on the ground to work. Climb rate was very bad! But it worked.

The Desert Pilot Thanks for that. I will watch out. If I’m going with 4 people it will only be an hours flight anyways! Thanks for the info, good to know!

Aren’t you a little over weight? I can never understand why every time i try to get the w&b for 3 total passengers is always over weight, even though cessnas offer 4 seats total (thats with full fuel always tho)

I was not full fuel that day. I don't remember the exact number now but with fuel and pax we were about 100lbs under max takeoff weight.

As my instructor always said, "You can fill the tanks, or you can fill the seats. But you can't do both."
