I lost 60 lbs through intermittent fasting, one meal a day at around 2 or 3pm, over a seven month period. Sometimes doing 3 day water fast only, it worked very quickly, I literally melted my excess fat, also a daily walk one hour or more helps tremendously, and walking is free no need to join a gym.

When I am fasting and start to feel hungry, a hot cup of garlic, ginger and turmeric with no sugar does the trick. Then about 15 minutes after, I fill up on water. I’ve been using the “Zero” fasting app to keep track of the duration of each fast, and have also been measuring blood glucose & ketones for motivation...I look forward to the maintenance phase, where my IF periods are shorter - trying to combat years of insulin resistance, so opting for more aggressive 5-7 day fasts (once/month or so), followed by ADF until I ‘stabilize’. Once I get closer to my goal, I plan to move to OMAD or perhaps a 20/4 or 18/6 scheme...I will DEFINITELY try the bracelet tip!!!🙏🏼😍🤗 I’ll think of you whenever I wear it!😊

I started OMAD naturally after going carnivore a month ago, and I've discovered that a fatty meat kills my hunger even even more, to the point i have to forced myself to eat the next day. Green tea, sparkling waters, and coffee help break up the monotony of a single drink type throughout the day, so i focus one drink type for what should be each meal. Coffee in the morning, green tea for lunch time, sparkling water throughout the day, and a warm camomile or mint tea around dinner time. It gives me something to look forward too. Thank you for the info Dr Fung. You've literally saved thousands of lives and given many of us back the youthful feeling lives we thought were long since past!

This month I have gone full carnivore because I am curious about how I will feel on it and to see what the results will be for me. The one thing I have not really got my head around is how much meat to eat for a meal. What do you do? Do you have a set amount that you aim for? Or do you just eat till full? When I get hungry I do 3 things:
    1. Pray for people, which helps me remember one of the chief reasons I am fasting.
    2. Get out of the house and find something to do. A walk helps me get fresh air and feel better.
    3. I plan the hour that I'll break my fast, including what I will eat. I tell myself that I can make it till that time. When time is up, I will first eat a small, nutritious meal like an egg and salad. Then I eat a low carb food I enjoy, such as a low carb chocolate mug cake.
I challenge myself to make it to the deadline time.

Then have a snack around 7 to 7.30. A boiled egg or some nuts with cottage cheese typically. When I fast, I like to be more physical. I walk on average 8 miles a day. I don’t do this to burn calories; it helps my heart and keeps me from vegging out in front of the television. When I experience nausea or weakness, I know it is time to add salt and potassium to my water. (It really helps) The longest I’ve fasted is 10 days. Doctor Fung’s books have really helped educate me on why we put on the pounds and what can be done to get them off and become more healthy. Before fasting I was a very unhealthy 291 lbs. I am now down 61 lbs and can easily see reaching my goal. Thanks Jason!

Richard, Just regular table salt and a product called “no salt” (a salt substitute) for potassium. I use less than a 1/4 teaspoon for about 16 ounces of water. Personally I don’t have to use this often but it helps. Jason Fung’s “a complete guide to fasting” mentions you should break your fast when you a nauseous. If my nausea continues after the s & p, I break my fast and start again or do a different fasting schedule.

Staying hydrated helped a lot. I used to only hydrate at meals so when I fasted I got dehydrated. Concentrating on drinking throughout the day helped. I also switched to green tea with a little citric Avis (vitC) added and some lite salt (sodium and potassium electrolytes).
I also began intermittent fasting and compressed my feeding time to between noon and 6PM. It easy now to skip breakfast, exercise fasted and have my first meal at noon or 1PM.
In about one year now, I’m down 50 pounds or 208 to 158. I feel great and now I’m focused on maintaining my weight between 160 and 165 while I build strength and endurance. I didn’t have a large amount to lose - about 40 pounds - but, the benefits of fasting have been wonderful. Losing the weight has been great. And, the best part is I’ve been able to reduce blood pressure, stabilize blood sugar (was pre-diabetic) and I no longer have all the joint aches and pains. It’s wonderful, and so much easier than tempting myself to overeat 3-4 times a day. I am SO much more productive, too. I have energy and time to do lots of things I’ve been putting off for years. YOU ARE SIMPLY AMAZING, Dr Fung. I am coming back to fasting and today did a 22 hour fast. The most I had done before was 21hs but I wasn`t ready so did not see the benefits of it. You are SO RIGHT about social media. The adds and seeing food triggers something that makes you want to eat. I have PCOS, insulin resistance type and fasting alongside low carb, gluten and dairy free diet is the best for me.

Thank you, Dr Fung, for explaining the science behind fasting so well. It really helps to understand why things work, or don't work. I love your honesty when you don't know you admit it. I started fasting 3 weeks ago and am seeing results, which is amazing! 😀 I used the time for self care : pedicure, manicure, coloured my hair. Walking my dog. I contacted friends and family. I made whole meal wheat sourdough bread , which may seem like a bad idea, but as I am still learning, the results are mostly unsuccessful and unappetising! 😀

When I'm about to sneak for food during fasting, I simply watch Dr. Jason Fung's videos then I won't have the craving anymore. I've to cook for my kids, as soon as I finish cooking, I hide in my room or go outside for a walk because it's the food smell which makes me wanna eat!
