Burnley's six-season stay in the Premier League came to an end as Newcastle's 2-1 victory at Turf Moor condemned the Clarets to relegation and Championship football next season.
A win for Burnley would have confirmed their top-flight status at the expense of Leeds United, irrespective of their final-day result at Brentford, but a catastrophic start left the Clarets with too much ground to make up.

So many similarities with the 2018-2019 season:
-League table: the exact same top 6 (Tottenham getting 71 points) and Crystal Palace finishing 12th
- Several golden boot winners (including Salah)
- Title race scenario: Liverpool playing at home against Wolves and winning by 2 goal difference. Man City losing at the beginning but manage to win at the end and therefore win the League by 1 point
Deja vu 🤔

Oddly specific.
As a Leeds fan I want to thank Newcastle for taking this game seriously and giving your all,you have my utmost respect.
Crazy how Everton fans are saying this game meant nothing after getting battered by Arsenal.
As a Newcastle fan you're welcome, but if Everton were in that position I'd have kidnapped Eddie Howe and Hypnotized him into throwing the Burnley game to put the blues into the Championship
@@GoldenbanjoDJ you are a king

MOT... Leeds loud and proud also..
We all saw this coming after the sacking of Dyche, the caretaker did a good job with his first few games though to be fair.
Deserved it after they sacked em
Feel bad for the fans though
We were in free fall under dyche. He should have gone sooner. Tough but that’s the truth
Michael Jackson the caretaker had only won 3 games wherever he went it wasn't enough.
Should of sacked him sooner, he was clueless
The Great Sean Dyche. Was what kept Burnley up.
Moron.
A lot of teams disappointed they won't get some of Leeds quality players on the cheap. LOL
But, they will definitely get the good players from Burnley though, Tarkowski, Pope, Cornet, McNeil, to name a few
@Steven Dawson Phillips ?
@@yashmishra4292 none of those players would make top 6.
@Steven Dawson blocked and reported
@Steven Dawson Gelhardt won't be leaving at such a young age, no top club will want him right now.
THANK YOU NEWCASTLE AND WELL DONE LEEDS
You’re welcome lad haha
Cornet needs a better club, he’s too good for them. Sacking Dyche one of the worst decisions ever made
Nah he ain't that good. Missed a crucial penalty against West Ham plus a lot of misses
@@jsproduction3839 I agree wit you mate
Cornet was good for 3 games, and dyche should of gone sooner.... You can can have wout as well if you want more of a donkey than wood
They’ll lose Weghorst as well
The players wanted Dyche gone
Unbelievable, thanks Newcastle you are now my 2nd team
@Lee 1993 lol I get that all the time . Wish I had his wages 😂
@Lee 1993 I genuinely think signing Chris Wood for £25m is a genius piece of business.
At the time Newcastle and Burnley were both in the bottom 3. Wood isnt a £25m pound striker, but gaining a half decent striker plus basically guaranteeing your relegation rivals won't score another goal all season, for just £25m? Incredibly business!
I absolutely loved Sean Dyche and was devastated to see him sacked.
From that moment I turned on Burnley and wanted them to go down.
Dyche actually got this club into Europe and all of a sudden he isn’t good enough to have them fight to stay up in the final 8 games?
I’m supporting whatever new team Dyche will join. Love the guy.
🤚
Spoken like a true fan
@@fasthracing I'm not. I started supporting Burnley because of the culture Dyche cultivated there.
Hard nosed, didn't care how they won, graft, nightmare to play against if they scored first... you know...the typical underdog.
They were actually one of the last examples of being loyal to your manager through thick and thin especially after being relegated and sticking with their manager who immediately brought them back up. What a story that team was...
@@Shackkobe And if the same thing happens again to another manager you would will then "support" him?
@@fasthracing I don't know about the hypothetical situation you are describing.
My opinion on this situation will not change.
Feel free to do as you please.
Dyche was not the problem
The problem was previous Chairman Garlick starved the club of investment on the field. Result Relegation a certainty. Well Done Ex Chairman!!
@@davidgill2949 The debt the new owners put on your balance sheet is horrendous.
@@davidgill2949 that wasn't the problem, the team new his role, they werent able to compete against premier league teams and they were overarching , so keeping the finances stable was a good thing in case the dropped to championship , while the new owners destroyed all of this stability and now they're getting relegated
Sean dyche got this team 7th a few seasons ago. He worked wonders with this team
Weghorst from Champions League to Championship what a hero
Take that donkey back
😭😭
People said I was crazy when I said that Chris Wood is better. Weghorst has no EPL experience and Wood overperformed in a low scoring Burnley side.
@@TheLeechaolan15 can’t lie I haven’t heard of you, so I can’t confirm whether ‘people said you were crazy’ but cheers for the comment anyway
@@MyDrillaDrilla Weghorst even became 4th choice striker at Burnley..
With Jay Rod and Vydra injured, even Barnes was favoured the last few matches..
Weghorst coming off the bench in a 2 striker formation.. so technically 5th choice if you count Cornet.
Not gonna miss Burnley as a Spurs fan
Definitely never seen or felt what it’s like to be in a relegation fight
Will McKenzie must be delighted right now
As a Spurs fan, I Appreciated Burnley. They were always that one team in the prem between 14-17th and always scored one goal and defended the whole game. Their tactic is what kept them in the prem for years
I hate bro 🤣🤣🤣
Burnley were true to themselves, football is not only for klopp gatekeepers. Damn shame. Hope they come back.

I’m so glad Leeds stayed and Burnley got relegated.
This is for Sean Dyche! Shame on the owners
Biggest mistake was sacking dyche
Thanks for the effort!
Burnley’s new owner has really ruined the club. Sacked Sean dyche for no reason and now they will be absent from the premier league for the first time in 6 years.

Not bothered now Sean Dyche got sacked. He was what made Burnley BURNLEY
Burnley have been going since 1882 and will continue Dyche had run his course, should have gone sooner.
Did miracles with them for years and now all of that work is gonna be pretty much undone. Don't think the new owners give a stuff though sadly.

Like most teams in the bottom six, survival name of the game.
They actually finished 7th one season, and made the Europa League, challenging the top 6 clubs, but go on.
What a load of horse shite 😂 digging out the owners for showing no ambition is one thing, but how've you made the jump to: the players get out of bed in the morning telling themselves "Had better give it my all today in the big match, need to earn some extra dough for the chairman. Not my family or my career or owt like that, just have to be sure I make the chairman a good wad of cash they can spend on a new yacht." Think about what you're saying mate 👍
Sean Dyche is bigger than Burnley
They deserved to go down the moment they sacked him
No they didn't.
@@Hunterfinn625 They did to be honest, new owners of the club seem shocking, sacking Dyche and taking 100 million out of the club straight away plunging them into debt, and now getting them relegated. I'd say it's pretty deserved on their part. Feel sorry for the fans though, you have to wonder how these types of people keep getting the seal of approval to buy football clubs, take money out and ruin them.
@@o.binwheelie9733 Dyche had been living on borrowed time for 12months, same old same old, no plan B, wouldn't change system of play, persisted in playing sme players when not performing, hardly ever gave younger players a chance, 1 win in the first 20 games, that virtually seeled our fate. Feel bad for Burnley, they didn't really get much going their way in terms of luck. Honestly thought they would survive so many times this season. Even going into this game Leeds were favourites to go down. Burnley just couldn't escape the drop I guess.

They spent like countless games parking the bus trying to grind out draws. You dont have to feel sorry for them when their team is so bad they never bothered trying to play because they were scared of losing.
Forest for Burnley would be a good trade off.
Well deserved. Once you sack an absolute juggernaut that is Dyche you deserve to drop on a last day. He kept this mid-table Championship squad in the Prem for too long. Sorry Sean, there are too many idiots in this World.
3 wins in 29 games hardly an outstanding record, should have gone 12 months ago
You are also part of the idiots of this world.
@@Hunterfinn625 Enjoy never coming back to Prem. He was surviving for six years with zero money. He deserved much more credit than what they gave him.
Good riddance. Apart from injuring players and playing horrible football they offered absolutely nothing.
They where a tough side, with league 1 quality players, that had virtually no money compared to all the other teams, and yet they survived for like 6 or more seasons, and finished 7th one season and made the Europa league. They are the ultimate underdog story, and are much more likable then the top 6 that buy their way to success, while having much greater financial resources then the rest of the premier league clubs.
Sad
They had a good run really Burnley they definitely punched above their weight mainly because of the job sean dyche did really they are definitely capable of coming back at the first attempt imo I am glad leeds stayed up as a neutral tho I enjoy their style of play and they have been entertaining to watch since they came back up imo 😎
Jesse Marsh looks like the type of manager the players could sit down and have a beer and listen to life stories. What gent for keeping the team alive.
Goldbridge is a happy man
Well deserve Burnley Clap
Burnley deserves to be relegated . Awful football in the premier league. Finally that is a relief for the league. Now they should lurk in the championship like west brom and stoke
Legends say that Mark Goldbridge is celebrating
What a shame. /s
As a Leeds fan I still think Everton should have points deducted- Sean did a brilliant job had to sell woods literally on a shoe string budget every year - Mighty Leeds’s survive couldn’t cope with this every season
Even before their accounts were published in February, the FA made it clear that if they were in breach, the penalty would be applied to the start of next season in line with Premier League rules. The reason it won't happen is because Everton would be able to lawyer up and cite at least six to eight other cases of potential false accounting by other clubs dating back twenty years that weren't similarly punished. The moment the FA didn't sanction West Ham when Sheffield United lawyered up all those years ago, the die was cast that the rules were there to be bent.
Center back injuries are what let Burnley down
Don't think that's accurate to be honest, compare them to Leeds who survived, they had more injuries at centreback and every other area of the pitch than Burnley. Also that Collins lad has been decent for them since Mee has been injured.
Why why why
😂😂😂😂 good riddance to a team who have been in the prem for years and added absolutely nothing. See ya 👋🏼
You're just not a football fan if you think they added nothing. Mate they had peanuts for wages yet they still would punch above their weight. Pipe down and sod off.
Did expect this to happen after Sean got sacked, was a very good manager to the team BUT results didn't go his way.
OMG 😳
If Dyche was still in charge I'd of felt bad as he did a crazy job getting Burnley into Europe let alone keeping them stable for 6 years on their budget basically having his hands tied behind his back. With him sacked Im fine with this similar to how Watford give 0 of their managers anytime to do anything.
People will say dyche isn’t the problem but
Jackson got 11 points in 8 games and could’ve maybe kept them up
Yeah, I didn’t see Burnley or Everton making it to 35 points. Both had a good run-in. Elated that Leeds survived but disappointed that Burnley got relegated. Good honest club - their fans deserve better than the owners they have. Their debt burden is going to bring big problems in the Championship.
Welcome to Newcastle, Tarkowski 🤣
good
Burnley have lingered in or around the bottom 3 all season, whilst it was not certain they would go down today, given Leeds awful goal difference and playing away at Brentford, it's not actually that much of a surprised, they were poor today in the first half. Whilst it's joy unconfined at Leeds, this escape shouldn't hide the fact they have major problems and next season will be another struggle if they don't sort them out. Whether Ted Lasso is the answer, I am not sure.
You lost to Norwich. NORWICH. That was unforgivable
