Those happened in Latin America, the song sang by the women saying ''you are the rapist'' is actually a remake of the Police of Chile sings called ''A police man in your way'', there was at least 10 cases a day of women murdered in Chile that year and many other cases of rape, MANY cases of rape by POLICE, many women and little girls that went to the police for help ended up being sexually assaulted by police and went unpunished, and so in the March 8 protest, the peaceful protesters sang the song now named ''A rapist on your way'', these protests happen in all Latin America every year, its called ''8M Protest'', Mexico City being the largest 8M march. It starts as a peaceful protest, with female SWAT teams protecting protesters even, but later in the day ''hooded protesters'' go violent, destroying doors and windows of EMPTY police and government buildings, by then, the peaceful protesters and families already left and the female SWAT team is switched to male armed police men. We don't really consider those protesters radical, but understand that this is a CULTURAL thing, its just normal here that in March 8, we will protest outside of government buildings, with thousands of pictures of the thousands of girls that have disappeared, killed and raped, and 100% of the time, protesters will paint on male colonizer statues, slavery icons statues and president statues, on government buildings, on the outdoor stairs of the building etc. They do not attack people, they do not attack family or local businesses, they destroy the doors of government buildings that have a history of LITERALLY closing the door and turning OFF the lights outside at women asking for help. An average of 10 to 11 women die at the hands of men in Mexico every day. And some simply say it was ''because they were horny'' You cannot compare a protest in Mexico with one in the US or the UK, things are just different here and YES this IS quite radical and crazy and overall horrible for an outside person from a different country, I agree, but so are the crimes against women here. He cannot put those clips of Mexico and other Latin America countries and use it to prove the point, because its just a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT context. We aren't the US or the UK, aren't asking for fair paychecks, or fair treatment in politics, or fairness in schools... we are literally asking for 1. To let us live. Literally. 2. Pursue and Punishment for rapists and killers, cuz yes, there isn't any.. 3. Justice.. Revolutions did not happen by asking nicely, and YES we DO ask nicely still.

as a sociology nerd, here's the thing about jokes. they serve a social purpose. they tell people something about you and what you think is ok to make light-hearted comments about. and then the person making the joke can also gage what the other person's views on said topic are based on how they respond to the joke. and so here's the thing. when ppl make transphobic, misogynistic jokes, they're blatantly, for everyone to see,s tating that they think these issues that DO NOT AFFECT THEM, SO IT CAN'T BE HUMOR USED TO COPE WITH THESE AWFUL THINGS, that they think they're not very serious, they can be made light hearted, and they aren't inherently serious topics that should always be handled seriously because peoople are quite literally killed due to transphobia, misogyny, and transmisogyny specifically. he's just telling me that he finds some sort of humor in the fact that people are killed because of these deeply ingrained social things.
the second function is that he can gage whether other ppl feel the same way, that these aren't deeply serious topics that take lives daily, and once he realizes that they've got similar views in that way, he can expand into non-jokes and be non-jokingly misogynistic and transphobic because he knows that others around him feel similarly. i'm assuming he's neurotypical since he doesn't seem to understand the social function of humor the way that i think most autistic ppl like me tend to just..... piece apart nt social interaction to try to figure out what they're really saying bc istfg nt's insist on speaking in code. so i'm sure he'd see this and say i'm overanalyzing it, but there are articles on this and i'm sure he could easily find it.

Something that I've learned over the years is that whenever a friend of a bigot says "oh but they're so nice!"
That practically ALWAYS means that the person being referred to is only nice to people they consider worthy of that respect.
Someone can be a bigot to another person but still pat themselves on the back on the same day because, to them, they treated everyone who deserves respect with politeness, and in their minds, certain (usually minority and lgbtq) groups simply Do Not Deserve Respect.
It's dehumanizing and making jokes at the expense of these groups only makes it worse.
As a trans person who hasn't started to transition (poverty moment), I've met some of THE nicest people EVER who've immediately purposely use the wrong name/pronouns for an out-and-proud trans woman that's our neighbor or even going so far as to say shit like "he/she/it" or tr*nny or whatever. But of course, because I don't _look_ trans, I don't get that same treatment. It's all smiles and politeness and wonderful behavior. I even made a point to let one of the neighbors go on their transphobic "i don't like [her], i think that lifestyle is sinful, I don't understand why someone would do that, etc etc" before I went "so actually I am trans so i'll explain exactly why we would 'do that' lol"
Bonus points for the neighbor who's also racist to our black neighbors (hard-R N-Word and all, without hesitation as well) and then got all sad when I stopped associating with her. Like... she _really_ expected me to still be neighborly and stop for a cup of coffee and a chat like i used to... after calling our neighbor's children the N-word? 🤨

The joke isn't at the expense of the rape victims but the rapists themselves, so victims and those who may be sensitive about such subjects are more inclined to be able to laugh along. It's a great example of a good dark humor joke over a very sensitive subject.
