Sometimes I think people hate for the sake of it being funny. Kinect was better than all of those. Everything else you named could be cheated by just standing there moving your hands and nothing more. My fam and friends have all those. The games should've kept pumping out, but people were too lazy to play it. Then didn't read the instructions on how to get the best line of sights for it or the zoom if you lived in a small area like I did for a bit. Once you have it set up to read you well, there's nothing wrong with it. It boils down to how lazy are you and how lazy people are in general to make bad reviews and the makers read those reviews or check there sales seeing that Americans are too fat to play. So why make more games? The Kinect is awesome. Never had a problem with it
Idk. Sonic Free Riders was cool. But anyhow, the game worked. I still play it. I've played all of them. Kinect requires great lighting and a bit of space and for people to not be lazy. After that, it works perfectly. The game choices sucked, because like I said, people not following instructions to make it work properly, which they give in details. And those people give bad reviews. Other people listen and don't try it or have tried it, but already with bad thoughts about it. Following also with the bad set up and lazy attitude. Sales suck, and makers don't want to waste their time. Any problems with readings from the Kinect were fixed for me by changing a light bulb from energy efficient to standard, opening or closing blinds. Changing clothes. Because the light will reflect off my white shirt too harsh for the kinect to pick up. Or too dark of clothing won't read well. After you adjust your space and the readings, then the only problem is the game choice. And that's on us as consumers. We treat it like shit, so makers won't try anymore. that's it.

And core software wise they advanced it quite a bit even from the time of this video. it's just that there was a lack of various kinds of support for it and reticence due to some false rumors that went around about it.

4 years down the road and the only games worth playing on the Kinect remain "Dance Central" and "Just Dance".
Let me rephrase that: Just Dance and Dance Central are the only games worth buying a Kinect exclusively to play. Gunstringer is a competent game that suffers from the fact that its Kinect-integration is extremely superficial and gimmicky. A non-Kinect-based version wouldn't be that much worse for wear.

The problem with the Kinect is not the hardware is bad obviously. The problem is that the hardware is extemely difficult to program for. No one knows how to correctly use the Kinect besides Microsoft, and a select few developers. The games that I played that were bad weren't bad in most ways, just that the controls didn't work. Those were the only problems I found. Also, some games just weren't creative enough to be fun. Kinect sports was very fun for me, and playing boxing with my buddies, while it wasn't an accurate representation, was really a blast. We looked like dorks and we flailed our hands around like crazy, but it was so much fun.
Good point. I don't have any voice control games though. They sound really cool. That other stuff would work too. If they weren't so focused on making games we'd have a truly awesome add-on.
It's kind of why Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor failed so hard. It had so much potential, but all the complex and precise movements required by SB:HA just cannot be captured by the Kinect and pretty much canned the franchise.

I know this is an old video, but it is NOT fundamentally the same as an eye toy. The kinect projects an IR grid and uses stereoscopic cameras to detect reflected distances between the IR grid elements. We use them in robotics classes at our university. The issues you had are more or less software limitations, the kinect it's self is world renowned for being a cost effective distance/imaging sensor for disposable robots.
That's all good and all, but the at the end of the day, the Kinect was marketed as a gaming peripheral, and in that department, it fell incredibly short, produced some absolutely abysmal titles and is considered a huge stain on Microsoft's reputation, it failed ultimately at what it was made for.

I remember getting Sonic Free Riders. The terrible turning controls had me frustrated enough, but the menu had me SO mad, I was out into tears. I was literally crying because of how unresponsive it was. Once you swipe, trying to go back to your original spot to swipe again to get to the next button just made it go back to the other button, as demonstrated at 9:06

***** Uh...actually, no, the Adventure series, Heroes, Unleashed, Colors, Rush series, Advance series Generations, Riders, All-Stars Racing, Sonic 4 Episode II, Lost World...all of them are pretty good games, some better than others. What you're saying technically holds water as the only non-racing Sonic game out for a current-gen (It stopped being next a while ago :v) console is Sonic Boom for the Wii U, and that one's shit, but one of the main producers of the Sonic franchise tweeted that Sonic won't be leaving consoles, and there's a rumored title for Wii U, PS4 and Xbone, and I really doubt the same Sonic Team that made Generations will fuck up a huge multiplatform release. It'll likely be as good, if not better than Generations.
