Dungeon pulls are the hard part of the dungeons. Assuming you're doing w2w it's the only time tanks need to use their mids and healers need to use their powerful abilities. Especially on min item level pulls are when everyone needs to be on their game to get the damage off the field before the tank and healer are out of resources. The bosses are when you turn your brain off

What system did you play this on? I'm playing on Switch just for the ease of playing on the go since I travel a lot. This looks WAY better than on Switch.

I went back to this video after finally playing through this whole game myself, and my god it was so worth finally playing. I love this game's story so much, it had me so invested and wanted more every time I had to stop playing. The gameplay is very good too. I agree with so many points in this video, and the You Are Not Alone segment is probably my favorite part of the game, hell one of my favorite scenes in the whole series. The only parts I dislike about it are the card game (which I only played for the mandatory tournament), and the final boss, which I won't talk about for spoiler reasons, even if this game is 24 years old. Still a great experience all the way through, I'll definitely end up playing it again sometime.

Nah they lost me, the moment with what they did with the ending of Remake, then watching what they did to Red and Aeriths death scene in Rebirth. Glad I didn't buy Rebirth, and will watch how they handle Reunion or whatever the third installment will be instead of buying it.

Good video. I hated the Black Shroud during 1.0. Hell, I even heard the same fool that designed that area was responsible for some of the areas in FFXI’s Seekers of Adoulin expansion (which can explain why they suck just as hard as the Black Shroud).

I need to correct something. It was all the story arcs that started in 2010 (with 1.0), that ended in Endwalker.

Play any other MMOs dungeons and complain about FFXIV mechanically. Sure, WoW dungeons aren’t technically linear, but the community makes them so. FFXIV started out with some dungeons that weren’t linear, but players ignored any deviation from the main path, and thus, the developers just made the dungeons linear to fit that play style. Other MMOs generally have a crap ton more trash to deal with. Hell, you would spend way more time fighting trash than bosses in most mmos, but in FFXIV, you generally will spend more time on bosses, or an equal amount of time on them. Also, FFXIV tends to have more mechanics on their bosses in dungeons than most other mmos. But, the real strength of them are their visuals. No other MMO has epic set pieces like FFXIV does.

How do you storyboard a video project like this?

I have to disagree with the notion that optional content "isn't" bloat. It is 100% bloat, especially in the way it is presented to you in the game. I am on chapter 12 with over 120 hours in the game already on my first playthrough. I have done pretty much 100% on everything to this point including getting the perfect executions where it matters. But I literally can't play a game without checking off all the boxes as I go. There is no way I could do this play through any other way. The other reason it IS bloat, is because most of it is trash. This is like a really good game, in a Russian nesting doll of bloat and bad ideas. At the center there is the core game with the combat system and all that. Then you have the good minigames like Queens Gambit and chocobo racing I guess. But the further out you go you get the layers and layers of nonsense. They showed zero restraint with this game. They just tried to do WAY too much. This should be a 30 hour game with maybe an additional 10 hours or so of additional content. Especially when you consider that we have a part 3 to come still too. All 3 games combined should be a nice 100 hour core experience. If part 3 is as bloated as this shit, I might be out. I don't think I could go through this again

Ok so I maybe late to the party here, but I remember a JRPG that my friend had. It involved crystals being put into the back of your hand and said crystals were made from humans. The first level was of two teens trying to break into an outpost while avoiding the soldiers seeing your face. It was an arena-style fight. Anyone remember a game like that?

So, one thing about end game gearing option, it not as bad as jared is making it sound. Normal raid gear and crafted gear for each x.0/x.2/x.4 patch will be good enough to take you until the end of the subsequent odd numbered patch. Aka if you get the 6.0 nirmal raid gear, that will let you do every single story, dungeon and alliance raid until the end of 6.1 patch. Once 6.2 releases, a new set of normal raid gear and crafted gear becomes available to take you up until the end of 6.3. most dungeons and 24 man raids actually have even less strict requirements. For example, in order to do the 6.5 patch 24 man raid, you need function gear obtained back in patch 6.2. That is ignoring any tomestone grind you will passively get from roulettes. The tomestone gear takes you 10 ilvls higher than what you need for the next two patches but yes, you have a 450 weekly limit (expect 1 piece of gear per week give or take). But to put it into perspective, the best -in-slot, aka the best possible gear every 8 months obtained through the savage raids, is only another 10 ilvls higher than that. Also there is significant catchup mechanics once the odd numbered patches release that gives you even more options to catch up gear through the 24 man raids. But again, they are not gated behind current tomestone gear.

When they revealed that they were all from the same orphanage and forgot, I turned off my PlayStation and didn't touch this game again for 20+ years... just finished this game two days ago. And now that I do have FFVIII under my belt... I wouldn't blame anyone who decided to just watch a story summary and skip. Strange, disjointed and ineffective dialog all through this game... game mechanics that incentivise avoiding the game mechanics... ...an unnecessary amount of the game devoted to being in one room, a set of rooms or corridors just walking up to the other people in the room to talk to them about the thing that's currently happening... ...Dr Odine being surprisingly irritating for how little he's onscreen... Situations where the music just isn't fitting (basically the whole time you spend in space). Unresponsive mini-game controls... the one good mini-game turns from sugar to convoluted in a few hours. A story summary is more than enough for someone to cross this game off their list.

I once tried playing an Alliance Raid (I think it was the Labyrinth of the Ancients) with everyone's combat visual effects turned on. That lasted right up until the first boss, when all three groups came together and created a hellish glare to rival Red Mage's Verblind, except that it just kept right on going long after a proper and merciful Vermillion Scourge would have ended.

@15:00 the problem with this is that it's an MMO. In a single player game, this could be possible. And viable. But in an MMO meta culture subconsciously rules over all. Every MMO with branching trees and varying gearsets have been brought to the knees of bullying, gatekeeping, time-wasting meta nerds. While XIV might not care all _that_ much about really maintaining the meta at the highest level, most people are expected to do the bare minimum. While this mainly applies to how jobs are played, this also extends to gear. There is a very narrow set of variation you can try, but it is all based in existing gear and the current discourse surrounding what is surrounding the meta. Trailblazers are often trying different things just to see, but are often set back on the path of what everyone else is doing. And with the 2 minute party buff window, you're always looking at that these days. You cannot have both multiple different playstyles, gears, and ways of tackling a game on a single job per person, while also trying to balance the game around 4 to 8-man content that requires cooperation and coordination. Sorry, but my ice + tenacity + piety build isn't going to ever be viable in an end-game fight vs a crit + direct hit + determination DPS. None of the bosses require elemental attunement(aside from Eureka), and what a nightmare it would be to need to set aside gear sets for each element, as well as several different builds for different situations. No one would want to play that, or it would end up being a jack-of-all-trades except for the few people actually going for the highest tier of content. It's just not worth the hassle.

Your Tomestone grind critique seems wildly misinformed. You can gain both Causality(Level-capped) and Comedy(Weekly-capped) Tomestones via roulettes, Hunt marks, raids, certain trials, and some other ways as well. You are not limited to a single grind of a single type of content in the game. That would be asburd and boring. The only things that typically require you to do one thing for a long time are the Relic Weapons, and those are usually just a single stage of an item(so even if you have to "grind out" a stage, you're only doing it for that stage, and not the entire length of the expansion's post-game content).

Watching again for the copious amounts of MAN ASS.

Oh, and more more dumb comment!: Ultimecia essentially ‘becomes’ evil because of the loop created with the Seeds, i.e., she learns some group called SeeD will one day come to kill her, sorceresses have been persecuted in the past, she decides to go after SeeD herself to try and prevent this….its a clusterfuck that eventually boils down to a “this persons actions in the future actually created the past, inadvertently, so she became the villain and gave them a reason to go after her’ scenario

I felt the same about Triple Triad, until I learned a bit more about the ‘stopping rules from spreading/spreading the rules you do want’ system which, admittedly, is its own whole can of pain in the ass. But still…makes it more possible to enjoy that game in its pure, fun form

I tried to play this game after loving FFIX so much. I got to the second Blitzball game and gave up. I didn't like the characters, i didn't like the setup, I didn't like the gameplacy... I just wasn't having fun. Now I'll admit I was only a teenager at the time, and maybe I was being unfair to it. But it put me off Final Fanrasy games so much I didn't pick up another for more thean a decade after that.

I don't know how true it is, but I recall hearing somewhere that several characters (Amarant and Freya almost certainly ) had to have their character arcs severely cut down due to time constraints. I really hope if we ever get a remake of this game like they did with FF7 they'll at least give us those stories back, even if not much else changes.
