There was a art thief from the 60s-70s that returned the paintings. Stole them for the fun.
32:34 - You can't sell stolen goods at market value. If you did, no one would buy. Stolen goods are dangerous... and you didn't pay anything for them. As a result, you have to find a buyer who is willing to accept that danger, and is not able to display the works publicly, and can't insure them or anything of the sort. That drives the prices way down. Plus the estimates are usually based off of auctions, which themselves drive prices way up. So, $30m is a completely unreasonable price.
The funny thing about the Mona Lisa is that it has been stolen once and only until the security report it missing did the museum realize. The reason it's famous has to do with misinformation and click bait I guess. When it returned two years later the media had a field day with it and made it famous

as a person who has known several shady people in the past. typically a stolen item is only worth 50% max of its original price. granted they were talking about electronics and such. but my guess is that artwork would probably be similar.
