If anyone was to be LoR's Exodia, it had to be a champion notorious for never being balanced and that some players knew how to abuse to the points of the game having to change as a result.
Overall, I love the design. No units all spells sounds like a cool and unique deck, and having a "Perfect Board" to aim for over the course of the game is a fun objective. Not the best level up animation. I also really like that he's basically trying to come out of hiding to fight the Darkin. Very cool combos. The randomized world runes is both thematic and will make each game more unique and interesting. Awesome design. I hope he's good.
@@ferrumoferebus yeah. At any given time you can have up to 6 units and/or landmarks on your board at a time. Ryze wants to be on the field and he wants you to have all 5 world runes out with him, so you don't really want to have other units who can take up space, so you'll wind up making a deck that really wants to stall for time by using stuns, heals, removal and stuff like that, instead of using challenger units to remove things or normal units to block, for example.

His thematic, his gameplay, his effects, everything is done incredibly well and is extremely exciting. My only problem is with his level up animation. It feels lacklustre and doesn't fit him well enough.
Lore wise it makes sense and it is so cool but man did they make such a lazy animation there , atleast they could have made the background more alive with darkins fighting
The model makes him look like ps2 model, low res compare to the card's art. The endgame special "cut scene" is just a zoomed in png image with some lightning effect, super low res as well. Riot clearly shown their budget cut from the game
I think most people are missing the point of his level up animation. Ryze whole goal of collecting the shares was so they were never used again. Him being looking so sombre and defeated even, is because he has to use the very things that almost destroyed his world in the past.
I actually like his level up animation. For most Champions, their level up feels like the best day they ever had. For Ryze, he's just sad he had to go that far.

I like how playing Ryze means that you have to sacrifice your deck’s structure. It’s not so overpowering this way. Of course in a real game and not a showcase, getting all those landmarks on the board while keeping Ryze alive would be much more difficult. Landmark removal, stuns, recalls, kill spells…there’s so many things that can break his gameplay. The skill curve on Ryze is very steep.
Shard of Hope was the last rune needed in Ryze’s “Call of Power” cinematic. Here, it is the featured graphic for Ryze’s alt. win-con. Seems like his journey could come to an end in the LoR canon.

Imagine having the celestials ask you for help cause you're that strong with the world runes. He truly is inevitable. Honestly, if league had a main character, it should be Ryze 🤣.
The fight between the Darkins under the command of Aatrox against Xolaani becomes so destructive and potentially world ending that a targonian army of Celestials descends upon them led by Mihira , the aspect of justice and her daughter Kayle. However they arrive to late as Xolaani already grows to powerful. She kills Mihira and it seems in the end only Kayle remains on the Battlefield against Xolaani. She sends out her Winged Messanger to Ryze, pleading for help. He is unsure if the world deserves to be safed so he uses the world runes to see into mindscapes, it appears that he can see the past in them. He comes to the conclusion that despite their flaws the people of runeterra do not deserve this fate and uses the power of the world runes to destroy Xolaani. It is unsure if the Darkin all together are dead or if they are just sealed away once more.
I mean he wants to keep the world runes so people don't destroy themselves So when threat bigger than world runes arrive he uses them even though he doesn't want to
From different arts it seems like Ryze is stuck in an apocalyptic battle between Kayle, Aatrox and a powered up eldritch form Xolaani! So yeah probably a pretty good reason!
I like the simplified level up animation. I just wish they emphasized his powering-up (near the end) a little more and polished his model. Simpler animations should be a give and take; the take is the simplicity of the overall level up but the give should be that it’s more polished and dramatic (think Ornn). Still beautifully done and I’m loving the stylized visuals pre-level animation (kayle also has it and it’s so beautiful). Overall most excited for Ryze.
i love how he still feels like a machine gun of spells that get activated every time he attacks or summons a rune, it really does feel like the relentless battle mage he is meant to be
The funniest thing about all of this are all of the people heavily criticizing the level up as "not eventful enough". W-h...What? It's AMAZING, from a storyteller perspective. Ryze is a RELUCTANT SAVIOR. Why would he have a level up animation where he's just slinging magic and killing a bunch of dudes?! I don't understand that, it's not his character at all and he has no reason to be happy about using such a dangerous power to destroy an enemy? That's great writing and stays true to his character for being what he is to the world, and furthermore to the story as well. 10/10 level animation, I like the aspect in the background almost pleading for him to save them from the potential of this world ending darkin? Like come on man, that's crazy good.

Victory Dragon is a little different since it basically wins 2 duels since most matches are best of 3. Fiora is more like phantasm spiral assault since you destroy monsters by battle. But then again how many ygo players know this?
The level up animation was underwhelming so I thought he would have a sick game ending animation (we are collecting world runes so it should be epic). Got a close up of the blue rune. Disappointed, but still excited to play him.

One other fun thing riot does with these expansions is slowly add in the original 17 champs of league! Now that ryze is here, this leaves: Fiddlesticks, Nunu and Willump, Morgana, Warwick, and Alistar! So too remember these champs once the next expansion is announced! Riot like to be sneaky haha. Ryze has the most amount of league of legends reworks counting at 5! Now that he's in the game as well, we get a even closer look at the rune wars where him and heimerdinger were at and we might see more cards from that past in the future! That might be where an exclusive champ might be coming from as well. If anyone was wondering where the song is from its called: Ryze, the Rune Mage | Login Screen Ryzes kit will be fun to try and work around! One last thing, who's that person or thing right next to ryze in his level up.

His level up is so easy to achieve, so I think they wanted to make it simple and quick since you're gonna see it every game.

I'm glad LoR has captured the most essential part of Ryzes design, which is him being a balancing nightmare
Wouldn't really say so. To me this just seems like a mechanic that Fiora and Soraka have as well, a (if not completely original) refreshing playstyle.
My only problem with this is that he can just summon the world runes that is to his ability to get delve into the past to summon them every round.
His levelup animation is very simple yet it fits him so well.

This is actually quite close to how I envisioned Ryze a while back, very pleased with this direction for him.
