Ryze has two incarnations in Riot Games. One relies on farming ressources extremely fast to reach his potential, has extremely broken elements and has several combos. The other, of course, is League's Ryze.
Although Ryze is a bit weak against very aggro decks, but the feeling of fully setting up the World Runes and finally activating them is so satisfying. With a little adjustment to his lvl up model and some more dramatic oomph to his win con animation, Ryze would be one of the best champ cards.
Ryze can manage to go against aggro with Shadow isles full control but he then falls flat on his face against against demacia because the pressure is too much to handle
Frankly, I think making Ryze have better matchups might break the card. I'm okay with OTKs like these existing, but making them easy to achieve is a whole other story. Adding "or activate your runes" to the spell Ryze generates into your deck would also be neat without making the OTK easier to achieve, and might force interesting decisions. Make a new Rune, or activate all the ones you have once? Given it's a Burst speed spell, might add some interesting interaction to the deck too. I want the world runes to be good, I don't want a win with them to be easy.
Played Ryze all the way to diamond. If anyone is struggling against the avalanche of Aatrox players, try SI Ryze; it felt extremely Ryze-sided. The important part is to ruinate after they World Ender instead of before. Ruinating before World Ender never works since they can just resummon everything with World Ender. Good luck climbing everyone.

Anyway, alternate wincon decks are not as good as regular deck where you build around one boss monster to wipe out the enemy. Also count as worse because they're too slow and modern ygo is at the light speed where the game usually takes a single turn.
I have gotten more wins than defeats on silver rank using this deck, though quite often it's Victor becoming absolute tank thanks to the spells Ryze allows you to have.
8:11 I think it would have been better to pull Varus with the snake and proc the 2 dmg to Atrox by attacking with Ryze. Atrox will block but at least Varus resets and takes 1 dmg.
Surrender button needs to be disabled if 5 runes hit the board. It’s annoying how many petty players will not grant you a satisfying win condition just because they can’t stop it.

You’re playing him wrong then, he should have minimum followers, your board space should always be primarily runes, and if you need to sacrifice viktor to get a rune in, you already won
the healing world rune should give spellshield, fully heal ryze, or grant the strongest enemy -2/0 or something, something to help him out against combat tricks (other than relying on freeze)

I don't know, maybe I just prefer this playstyle, but I tried Ryze with shurima, ionia and shadow isles and yet targon feels and plays the most comfortable for me. I miss counterspells thought.
i feel liek they should have given ryze one spell and 1 unit that triggers the world runes :( what ever deck you put him in is pretty much mono +spells to help him live or draw, im working on him first and i knew it would be hard but dang not this hard
Ngl the braindead version of this is just gain spell mana to level up and when u level up u create ryzes ulted in hand where you free attack summoning 6 random 5+ cards. Ryze creates another one of those everything he gains 12 spell mana. His spells could do something about gaining spell mana or something idk😊
Aatrox is so disapointing, from his levelup animation to his mechanics, LoR Aatrox doesn't live up to how awesome he is in league. Why cloudn't he be on a battlefield and begin to fly, like in his ult, while some filthy plebs start running away. Oh, budget cuts.

It's crazy to surrender, it's not like the animation takes super long like the Shurima ones or anything.
One thing that I learn in videogame TCGs is that you always turn off animation as much as possible.
