  • Hello All
Welcome back to the Channel and Part 5 of the Farkling of my new BMW K1600GT.
This is the fitting of the headlight protector, for which my motorcycle was the 'model' as the older version does not fit the 2022 model, so it was taken off to Nippy Norman's supplier in the UK and returned with the protector supplied. This fits the GT and GTL for sure.

There is a playlist with all these farkling videos so you can enjoy them all together
Hopefully you can give this a like and leave a comment and maybe subscribe. It'd be great to have you along

I just ordered the headlight cover from Aeroflow Corp. for my new K1600GTL. It includes a lip that goes under the forward lower part of the headlight to protect from rocks kicked up. I had one on my previous 2016 K1600 GTL and in 7 years never had a broke light. Of course any headlight cover is cheap insurance as opposed to replacing a headlight assembly.

Nick, excellent videos and commentary - keep up the good work.

I’ve never understood the need for a headlight protector on a road bike. I know lights can be expensive if they get broken but my last car had headlights substantially more expensive with no protector. I must say in 40+ years of biking (or driving) I’ve never had a broken headlight.

Me neither since they were Perspex but I’d cry if I did. I have had a couple in early motorcycle days when they were still glass 👍🏻

Nick, when you wash the bike, you remove the protection.? Thanks you. Excellent video !! 👍🏼

Hi Fredy. Yes it just pops off. That way I can clean light and inside of protector and pop it back in again (since I made the video we have also improved the look of the pads and they come ready cut as circles)👍🏻

    Hi Nick .
Appreciate your channel , very good work 👍🏻.
    I was previously a K16 guy .
But had more than a few problems with them and going to try a Goldwing now .
If it’s of any use to you , I have a brand spankers unused BMW Tankbag for a K16GT.
All you would need to get is the rather insignificant fitting kit which I dearly would hope BMW would sell separately.
Yours as a gift if you would like it as it’s no use to me .
    Just let me know.
Many thanks for your informative videos.
    Kindest Regards
    Neil Carrington

Thanks for the comment Neil. I’m off tank bags a little but thanks for the offer. I find they get in the way while manoeuvring. Do nasty things like rising age the ABS as they hit the switch at full lock. Enjoy your goldwing. Great bike 👍🏻

Recently watched one of your videos showing the Tucano Nano Rain Jacket did you go up a size on your normal size jacket or are these designed larger. Love the videos Nick and look forward to many more..safe riding

I’m not actually sure what size it is. I wore my jacket and trousers to the shop and just made sure it fitted over. I know there’s always quite a lot of ‘flapping’ but equallly they are always a struggle to get on so you want it big enough for sure. When on a long trip I take two plastic carrier bags. It’s so much easier to slip bags on boots first. Then the trousers just slide over boots and remove bags!! Can recommend the Nano Jacket and Trousers though. Even though I have a waterproof textile suit that holds water an feels heavy and cold else 👍🏻

Looks nicely crafted but unfortunately the pads are visible but still acceptable. Will check to see if they offer for R1200/1250 R.

I’m going to ask for some black pads as I wonder if they’ll look better??

Nick, can I ask, when you had the GSA did you have the BMW alarm fitted and if you don't mind, if not why not? Thanks Martin

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před rokem

Martin. I’ve had the BMW alarm on all my GS’s and the 1600. For £250 (as it was) it’s a cheap and worthwhile option 👍🏻

@@nickhodgeUK Thank you Nick and keep those videos coming - wife & Love them and one of the reasons that went into our decision to get back into biking - GSA being ordered in January '23 for new reg.

Yes. I’ve asked to for black tape as that may help. 👍🏻

You’ll also notice the lapel mic is gone too!! Happens sometimes and to save re-recording I’ve had to pump up the raw GoPro sound… sorry 👍🏻

The issue with these protectors is that they always scratch the center of the headlight, leaving a brushed off look on the headlight plastic. This is usually from the air presure applied at the center point where friction develops from the protector and headlight. Have you had this problem with this protector yet? That's what I'd like to know...

Mine was close to touching so i moved the pads i a little and bow the edges out. Then it just misses 👍🏻

Shame about the visable pads, but better than cracked headlight.

I agree. I’m going to try some black ones as they may be less visible??

Looks like a poor design. Not thought about and rushed just to get something to market.

Each to their own Marcus but there’s been one available for the 1600 and rt1250 for many years using the same fixing. Issue is there’s really nothing close to fasten it too. I’ve asked them for black tape as I think that’ll be less obtrusive. Thanks for comment though 👍🏻
