    I think its priceless to know your bike and how to fix it. My marlin 6 started making a ticking noise, took it to the shop 3-4 times and they never resolved the issue. Decided to upgrade things to it. Changed it to 1x, put a dropper post, different handlebar and stem and changed tires. You’ll appreciate it more in the long run. Just buy the tools you need. You’ll need it in the long run

    Matty, great channel. I went from an REI Drt 2.1 to a Roscoe 8. I just could not get comfortable on that bike at all after coming from 27.5x2.8 tires. I traded in the Roscoe 8 for the Trek Stache 7 and never looked back. 29x3.0 tires let me climb most anything within reason and I never get stuck in skinny ruts on the trail. I don’t do much technical stuff and I have never owned a rear suspension bike, so I’m happy with the hardtail and being able to run rear pressures as low as I need depending on the trail. I have yet to learn to manual, wheelie, hop or jump - maybe someday. An oval chainring has been my only upgrade. Good luck with your bike shopping, I look forward to seeing what you get.

    So as far as I know, the 27.5 wheel option is only available to the XS and S frame sizes on the fuel. Also, the hub on the EX 7 is the same as the hub on the EX 8, so I'd imagine it'll get louder with time.
    Also, that remedy 8 is a monster. That lyrik fork with code brakes is such a sick combo, and I love the yellow to red fade! Nothing wrong with the fuel by any means, both awesome bikes and you'll be happy either way

That being said if you don't dislike the color options on the ex5 and plan on upgrading parts along the way beyond the spec on the ex7 I would suggest the ex5 for the lower price point and I like the drive train a little more. Hey Matty, not trynna make you go broke here but just saying the fuel ex series is a great lineup. The Fuel ex 7 is a great bike but if you are considering the Remedy, being that is 4.1k if you can sum up another 200 dollars you can get the fuel ex 9.7. The Fuel ex 9.7 is a cost friendly full carbon bike that is comes in at 4.3k. I know it’s a lot of money but you get everything you get on the fuel ex 8 xt (shimano- the gx is a sram set up). You also get a better fork in the front which is the fox rhythm 36 vs 34 you get in both the gx and nx models of the fuel ex 8. Assuming as you progress you are going to want a more light and advance trail bike. This bike is a jack of all trades where you get pretty much everything you could every ask for for a cheaper price tag. In comparison the other carbon bikes usually start at 6k but 7k is more common. You can all the way up to 10k. So, I really think if you have got the money you should go with the fuel ex 9.7!!!

  • @theowheelers1685
    @theowheelers1685 Před 3 lety +1

    Hey, I'm sure if you started with some small repairs like adjusting shifting, changing tires, bleeding brakes, etc., you could take a full bike apart in no time. It is definitely not rocket science. I think you have to try a few things, remove pedals and handlebars, add bottle cage, and progress from there. Even if you buy a fully assembled bike, knowledge and skills for repairs and assembly are almost as important as riding skills. Give it a try. I bet you can remember when you could barely ride a trail, and look how well you ride now.

    Go to wheat ridge cyclery (close to denver) and they have a few slash 7s in stock. Comes with better suspension and drive terrain. It has internal storage and is made of super strong super light alpha aluminum. You won't regret looking at it.

    You should get a job at that bike shop. There's a demand for techs and I wouldn't think that it would be hard to learn to do basic setup stuff. Also, you should be trying to get Trek to sponsor you since that's pretty much what you ride anyway!

    Matty you should see if you can find a 2021 Slash to test ride. I was talking to my shop and it's supposed to be incredibly playful and also able to tackle the most intense trails. It has more travel than the Fuel. 2021 is the newest generation as well so you know it's as up to date as possible. I think I'm going to order a slash 8 for the spring. I'm trying to keep my Roscoe for my wife to ride if I can help it.
