    11:06 the kid said "fetus and embryo in latin and greek literally mean child" and OH BOY was I ready for this. Fetus in Latin has, like most Latin words, more meanings than one: as a noun, (fetus, fetus) it means childbirth; as an adjective (fetus, feta, fetum) it means pregnant; as a verb (feto, fears, fetare) it means giving birth and/or impregnate. In Ancient Greek, different from Modern
    Greek, embryo (έμβρυοv,
    έμβρυου) literally means both newborn and FETUS, and also lamb. The word έμβρυο is also used as a prefix to build words, verbs nouns and adjectives, that are about a FETUS. It literally refers to an UNBORN CHILD. The romans and ancient greeks didn't have enough medical knowledge to know the different stages of a pregnancy and how the baby goes from conception to newborn, so the words fetus and embryo, which are two different things used modernly, referred to the child in the womb at any stage, even AFTER the first nine weeks, after which abortions are only allowed in critical conditions and are very rare. Next time you try to use languages to enforce your ideas, fact check, please.

      The stages and name changes are arbitrary. Romans/Greeks not having medical knowledge of development has nothing to do with it. The human continues to develop throughout the entirety of their life.

    @ashleighadams1842 Před 5 lety +2466

    It's very easy to dismantle their arguments:
    1. Seeing as the best way to prevent abortion is to prevent pregnancy in the first place, what are three ideas you have to widen access to contraception and comprehensive sexual education? Are you willing to provide birth control for free? How many hours of comprehensive sex ed do you think students should have per semester?
    2. As someone who is pro-life, how would you expand public welfare programs to support babies and mothers after birth? How would you ensure these children and their moms do not go hungry? For example, are you willing to drastically expand daycare? Are you willing to provide unwed mothers with a basic income?
    3. A fertility clinic is on fire, and time is of the essence. You can save the contents of one room of two. In Room 1: Thousands of frozen embryos. Room 2 is a waiting room with ten patients. Which do you save - the thousands of embryos, or the ten people in the waiting room? (In essence, do you honestly believe embryos are the same as people?)
    I've had many arguments with pro-lifers, and using these points has always, always, always backed them into admitting that they believe pregnancy should be punishment for premarital sex, and they really don't care about what happens to the baby and mother after the baby is born. It's shockingly easy to reveal what really matters in the pro-life movement: controlling women and maintaining patriarchy.

      Ashleigh Adams I don’t have anything to counter your arguments. Because they are so well put. 👏 And I agree with a lot of the comments saying these kids are a bit brainwashed. When you do ask if they’re in favor of widening access to contraceptives, pro sex ed or willing to expand benefits for unwed mothers and their children, I want to know more of what they say. Or do they shrug and parrot the same talking points because that’s all they know? I’m honestly curious.

    • @markheath14
      @markheath14 Před 5 lety +47

      1. Sex ed should be comprehensive and thorough. I believe sex ed should also include awareness of how media acts "woke" about sex/love while also wildly marketing it to young teens. I'm not sure birth control should be free, but maybe supported so it's not wildly overpriced. You should have the choice if you wish it
      2. Yes I am in support of a UBI, but for all Americans. Short of that I believe Daycare should be wildly expanded along with paternity and maternal leave. Daycare would dramatically help families and I am pro family.
      3. I'm not sure how I would save thousands of embryos as I'm not really privy as to how that works and is it even possible to carry them through a fire? In a practical sense I'd save the ten people. It's still a tragedy either way.
      None of these points really seem like counter arguements to Pro Life. Like why would I be against expanding sex ed? Or increasing support for new monthers?

Regardless, if someone who simply does not want to be pregnant and takes all of the appropriate precautions gets pregnant anyway, it is a fundamental difference of ideologies for those of us who believe that abortion should be a legal option for any potential child-bearing person.

      @She’s so Lucky Actually, if taken correctly, the pill doesn't fail. Your argument is based on the carelessness of people to either follow instructions correctly and/or have a medical follow up with an ob-gyn to make sure the pill the women is taking isn't having any advert reactions with her biology. This is the same thing with condoms. They rip because they are poorly stored or put on.
      It's always better for women to avoid abortions, but pro-lifers and pro-choicers don't want that because that isn't how they earn a living. That's why in the US 1 out of 3 women will have an abortion, and despite all the achievements made with contraception, they strangely don't seem to "work".
      Again, so strange, but when women actually go see an ob-gyn they don't have repeated unwanted pregnancies, but if they only listen to Planned Parenthood, or listen to the natural contraception discourse, they just keep getting pregnant.
      This whole abortion thing shouldn't be about a woman's bodily rights, but about a woman's right to education, which again, pro-lifers and pro-choicers couldn't care less about. They just defend their income revenus.

It's sad how people don't have the basic info and try to argue stuff.

    • @dodieodie498
      @dodieodie498 Před 3 lety +6

      I assume you were referring to first trimester abortions when you said they weren't ripped up? It really depends on how far along the infant is in its development and its growth rate. Up to 10 weeks, the pill that causes a forced delivery can be used. The embryo is pushed out through a forced miscarriage. Up to 14 weeks, the embryo might also be removed by suction. In the second and third trimester, drugs can be used to induce labor and drugs might also be injected into the baby's heart to insure death before birth. The most common abortion after 15 weeks is the D&E, and the mother is usually sedated. The cervix is opened, and the infant is removed by forceps and usually dismembered in the process. The uterus is scraped out to be sure all pregnancy tissue is extracted. At 24 weeks and up, the D&E is performed under general anesthesia. The infant is injected to insure that the heartbeat is stopped. The cervix is opened a bit wider, and usually forceps are used to dismember and remove the infant. If an intact removal is to be performed, the legs are pulled out first, and then the skull is crushed to ease intact removal. It is common to dismember infants after a certain point in the pregnancy, which is why the staff then has to count the pieces to make sure all are accounted for and none are left inside the mother. Look into the procedures themselves as to how the killing is done, and under what circumstances the "actual procedures" of partial birth abortion are performed. As well as the separation of parts that are sometimes then sold or donated to science. Fascinating reading.

      @@DrMosseeay But a pregnancy is much riskier than an abortion so much more women will die.
      Shown in this research:
      A research note on the mortality consequence of denying all wanted induced abortions
      Abstract
      In this research note, I estimate one component of the mortality impact of denying all wanted induced abortions in the U.S. This estimate quantifies the magnitude of an increase in pregnancy-related death which would occur solely due to the greater mortality risk of continuing pregnancy to term compared to having a legal induced abortion. Using published statistics on pregnancy-related mortality ratios, births, and abortions, I estimate U.S. pregnancy-related deaths by race/ethnicity before and in first and subsequent years of a total abortion ban. I estimate deaths after a total abortion ban by assuming all induced abortions are denied, assuming each abortion denied averts 0.8 births, and increasing exposure to pregnancy-related mortality accordingly. I find that in the first year of ban, estimated pregnancy-related deaths would increase from 675 to 724 (49 additional deaths, 7% increase), and in subsequent years to 815 (140 additional deaths, 21% increase). Non-Hispanic Black women would experience the greatest increase in deaths (33% increase in subsequent years). Estimated pregnancy-related deaths would increase for all race/ethnicities examined. Denying all wanted induced abortions in US would increase pregnancy-related mortality substantially, even if unsafe abortion does not increase.
      Or this:
      The influence of abortion legislation on maternal mortality
      Abstract
      Worldwide some 20 million unsafe abortions take place each year and account for approximately 13% of all maternal mortality and serious complications associated with it, such as sepsis, hemorrhage and trauma. Only a quarter of all women in the world do not have any access to legal abortion, whereas 40% have a legal right to decide for themselves. This liberalization of abortion legislation has seen a tremendous drop in abortion-related maternal mortality. Death from unsafe abortions are almost unknown in countries where abortion is available on request. Reduction of the need for induced abortion through the provision of good family planning services should be an integral part of healthcare. Consistent use of contraception greatly reduces the need for abortion, but it cannot completely eliminate this need. Thus, it is essential that safe medical abortion services should be made available to all women in the world in cases of contraceptive failure.
      Commentary: the public health consequences of restricted induced abortion--lessons from Romania.
      Abstract:
      The question of whether abortion should be legal is currently being decided in many countries. Although much of the discussion has focused on ethical issues, the public health consequences should not be overlooked and should be addressed realistically and responsibly. Nowhere are the public health manifestations of restricted abortion more apparent than in Romania. The pronatalist policies of the Ceaucescu regime resulted in the highest maternal mortality rate in Europe (approximately 150 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births) and in thousands of unwanted children in institutions.

      But what I know in my bones, is the terror i felt at the prospect of waiting on those tests, if they came back positive. I would definitely abort the child. I do not have the desire to raise children, I think if you are a parent you have so much responsibility to the child. That's my biggest thing, if you have a child it's because you are committed to that child, people say they want a family, they love babies, etc, but to me, children are about commitment, a high level of responsibility. I have to raise my child well and consider their needs first.
      SO what if i don't or can't meet their needs? Then I best never let them suffer.
      It is a child you made, you forced to exist that you are committed to no matter what, I meet so many parents who don't really practice that. I saw my friends being raised in broken homes, in the foster systems. I have seen how awful it is to be an unwanted child.
      So ultimately, I have a responsibility to that child to make sure they don't have an unloving parent and aren't abandoned to this careless world. I know I would be a cold mother, I know i don't want to be a mother, and i know that being in a broken family is terrible.

These women are not alone no matter what we love them in any situation. The last thing we want to do is condemn them because we are not ones to judge. Instead we provide love and compassion. I wonder, going forward with this program, if there could be any way to include sessions for students to learn more about how they can help the community of young mothers? Perhaps assist at an orphanage or nursery, or create and hand out care packages for new mothers of lower income families? If this is truly the mission of your organization - providing love and compassion - I’d love to see that at all levels. I think a lot of pro-choicers like myself get frustrated when we hear that pro-life organizations are ‘there for them emotionally and financially’ and then provide very little public follow-through, other than prayers.

A virus is a being made of cells and that contains genetic material in the form of DNA or RNA. Now , a virus is not considered a living being because to survive it needs to penetrate a host cell and reproduce. When a zygote, an embryo , a foetus (depending of the stage) , is in a uterus , until it comes out it is dependent on Its host : the owner of that uterus. So, whatever that thing is, it behaves like a parasite: it uses the host's blood supply, feeds itself with the host's nutrients and guess what the placenta in which that thing is located was actually acquired by a virus. It develops and gets " rooted" I'm the uterine wall like a virus would she penetrating a host cell. Moreover, that thing can't reproduce at that stage which is another criteria to be a living being. Therefore, whatever is inside that uterus is not a living being. Now , abortions are performed usually before 12 weeks of amenorrhea, so at that stage it is totally safe for the mother to abort.

      Bizzy Well, in a way. If you want to call it the equivalent of a college class, it would be hypocritical. But think about what a military boot camp actually is. It’s function is not to teach critical thinking, but to follow orders without questioning them.
      The question I would be asking is just how inclusive a term like pro-life really is. Texas has the highest number of executions since the Supreme Court reversed its earlier decision to ban it a few years earlier. And there are cases which have arisen where there were serious doubts about the convicted person’s innocence, or whether they even received a fair trial. From cases in other states, there were several cases where new evidence proved the innocence of people on death row.
      So if one is pro-life, should one be supporting the death penalty? And the same questions arise about all issues regarding human life. If you want the label “pro-life”, then doesn’t that include ALL life issues? Otherwise, one is just anti-abortion.
      I understand that this may not be included in this “boot camp”. But perhaps the parent group of this (Texas Right to Life) SHOULD be examining all other life issues, including the death penalty, gun control, the social safety net, ensuring people have access to health care, and so on.
