- After seeing Johnstone torture himself in this challenge in the original Red and Blue and Gold and Silver, I decide to torture myself even more by going through the remakes! Today we're going to see how easily you can complete Professor Oak's Challenge in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen! This video took quite a lot of time and effort to put together while still keeping up with Mega Man videos, so I'd really appreciate it if you shared this with a friend. @@James.Stark.Ben.Edition Not everyone breeds (especially not with how much easier perfect IVs and shines are in gen 6+) and the momentum of a lot of the bikes can be rather irritating not to mention it takes up the single precious registered slot in earlier games

I love how when you battle gary on the SS ANNE, he says "I already have 40 kinds" and you get to say "Well, I have 42."

here's a funny detail you didnt mention: it is almost necessary to use your master ball on entei (or raikou, if you picked squirtle) since both know roar, and if they use roar during the battle, not only does the battle end, but the game thinks you defeated it, and it will stop roaming the map. the only way to get it back at that point is to reset to an earlier save.
I sincerely hope Johnstone sees this and credits you for making such an amazing video in the style and bringing more attention to the POC!

I don't know if anyone else has said this, but when your saving at the mewtwo battle near the end of the battle, the in game pokedex counter says 168 while yours says 169. Did you miss one?
The three Bird Keepers in Route 18 is a good VS Seeker exploit, because of how much Exp they give out that early in the game.

Yeah i got fire red in 4th grade. And played the crap out of it long past ruby ( my gameboy was a gift from a friend after his parents bought him the new ds and he no longer played with the advanced. I was kinda poor.) I still never completed the dex no one would trade and i didnt have the patience to do do this

Gotta love the Lavender Town theme. It's infamous and unique. Wish I understood music theory so I could decipher it and write my own ominous vibe.
Basically, major seventh intervals sound discordant, especially when clashing to a melody of tritones and notes semitone distances from the expected triads.

Although my memory is cloudy, I remember FireRed having 171 Pokémon.
You missed Skarmory.
He got skarmory he just didn't show it but his counter went up by 3 but he didn't catch ditto I don't believe
@@nitrogenxenon6329 He caught a ditto, but he did not catch a Skarmory. Skarmory can only be found in the Sevault Canyon on Seven Island.
Edit: I just noticed it lol sorry my bad. But I feel that he is missing one Pokémon. That, or my memory is really cloudy. Thx btw

In FireRed you can only obtain 170 Pokemon. LeafGreen has one extra Pokemon, Azurill, which you get from breeding an Azumarill holding a Sea Incense. Maybe that's where you're getting the total of 171.

Amazing video, however I did notice a few mistakes you made in the challenge itself.
1.) You didn't get Grimer until after you defeated Koga and gaining access to Surf outside of battle, but it's actually possible to get Grimer before defeating Koga. It has a 1% encounter rate by fishing with the Super Rod in small pond of water in Celadon City. This allows you to get 2 more pokemon added to the dex total in that section.
2.) You should defeat Blaine before Erika. Doing so gives you access to Kindle Road where you can catch Ponyta and Rapidash, whereas defeating Erika first will only give you access to Articuno. Since you want as many pokemon as possible with the fewest gym badges, Blaine should be done before Erika, technically.
Still though, amazing video and can't wait for the HG/SS one.
He also missed cubone in rock tunnel and poliwag above Vermillion. thats a total of 5 on top of grimer and the ponyta line.

It's also possible to obtain Machop before Misty. He's available on the route next to Bill's house.

This is absolute insane. I hated grinding a butterfree or a nidoran to get confusion or double kick to beat Brock in yellow as a kid.

You could've actually caught a Grimer before Koga by fishing in Celedon City with a Super Rod for a 1% chance at a Grimer.
Shade the Novice can you get the super rod before koga?
@@skylon01 You can get the Super Rod at the fisherman's house on Route 12, which is an area you can access after getting the Poke Flute and before Koga.

Imagine how exponentially tougher this challenge would be if “you *must* deposit a Pokemon after its fully evolved” was included in the rules.
That Random Encounter Guy you wouldn’t be able to finish the challenge because you would deposit all your Pokémon before the next gym, except for stone evolutions where you haven’t gotten the stone yet. Or trades if you count that.
@@TDot_SSB Well, the idea is (once you evolve every Pokemon) that you can, you challenge the Gym with that team, deposit any non-fully evolved Pokemon (or just deposit all but the most recently evolved Pokemon) and then continue like that. I guess I should've been more clear.

33:48 You can also get Azurill via breeding a Marill holding a sea incense with a compatible Pokémon.
He alluded to that when he said that you could get one more pokemon in Leaf Green because Marill is exclusive, guess he forgot about that. And to be fair if you were lucky enough to get the event back in the day, you could snag deoxys as well.

simão mateus I know, but I’m saying if they would streamline it, make it more accessible, and make it easier to use, then I would pay for it. The emulators I’ve used in the past have had glitches and issues with saves and eventually I have to delete and reinstall the app because it won’t work. If Nintendo just put out an official gba emulator for phones and put a bunch of gba games on it (much like a nes mini), I would definitely pay for it.

Meowth knowing pickup would have made this challenge easier as in firered pickup had not been nerfed since it got nerfed in Emerald so just like Ruby and Spaphire 1% chance after each battle for a rare candy

TheAnimeChicken In FR/LG, Pickup focuses on berries. You can’t pick up Rare Candies.
@@beta511ee4 that is a common misconception berries were implemented in pickup but they do not cancel out any other existing items..I checked both bulbapedia and serebbi just to be sure you if you were right or not.
