I remember getting to the Sevii Islands for the first time and being absolutely blown away. They *are* small, but as a kid who didn't expect anything new from these remakes, this was like discovering Kanto in GSC all over again. This is one of those few moments I'm kinda glad I didn't have much internet access back then.
My favorite spot on the islands was the hotsprings one One Island, because they had some of my favorite trainers to rebattle right outside and because I didn't know the concept of hotsprings back then and found them fascinating - even moreso than in RSE, because these were located in a cave.

The Sevii Islands are a really nice thematic contrast with Kanto - these very small, rural island communities with a much larger presence of nature and less artificial structures. The town areas feel modest and don't impede on the surroundings, and some of the NPCs will talk about the slower pace of life there. I think this theme even blends into the islands' gameplay - there are no incredible rewards for anything you do there, but there is a lot of fun to be had in discovering the small events and simply enjoying the summer-adventure atmosphere.

One thing I feel worth mentioning concerning Four Island's Icefall Path is that it feels like a spiritual reference to multiple Johto caves. The entrance is very similar to the entrance to Dragon's Den. The name is very similar to Ice Path, which also has sliding ice puzzles and the NeverMeltIce. This area being the only place to need Waterfall could be referring to either Mt. Mortar or the Tohjo Falls. And the ability to encounter wild Lapras is very similar to the Friday fixed encounter with a Lapras in the depths of Union Cave.

This is the kind of remake I expected for Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
Imagine a way to obtain old mythicals without the savedata giveaway or limited time items. A mini quest for each celebi, mew, jirachi, deoxys, darkrai, manaphy, and shaymin. Similar to the current PLA integration to obtain Arceus, I would have likes to also see a postgame quest that opened a stable spacetime rift, similar to the ruby/sapphire integration with FR/LG, but which actually EXPANDED the national pokedex to include regional forms and all the PLA mons.
God, Fire Red’s Sevii islands were a sick addition, and I’m irritated that idea wasn’t carried onwards to BDSP.

Overall the Sevii Islands feels like both an explanation of the events that led to things in G/S/C and HG/SS, and a bit of a teaser for the gen2 remakes that would come later.
I mean it explains and sets up:
    1. Where Lorelei got her Lapras ace and why she isn't in the Elite Four in the gen2 games and their remakes, after the events of the Sevii Islands arc she likely decided to stay there and protect them herself.
    2. The Team Rocket plot in Joto and where they came from
    3. Sets up Silver as being Giovani's son, something that would be outright confirmed in the Celebi event in HG/SS
There are hardly any gen2 Pokemon obtainable there and no gen3 Pokemon (understandable), so it feels like a missed opportunity in some ways. Instead of the unused things in Altering Cave, they could have instead placed those Pokemon throughout the Sevii Islands. Plus the ONLY way to obtain either Ho-oh or Lugia without that event is through Collosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness, while Lugia isn't difficult to obtain as it's literally in the way, Ho-oh on the other hand...Good luck with that one.

The biggest flaw with Sevii Islands to me is how disconnected the islands feel from each other, it probably wouldn't have hurt to introduce a few routes between them as a method of travel instead of using the ferry to travel to each one of them. Also, Navel Rock & Birth Island should have been the rewards for completing the side quest & obtaining the National Dex instead of Mewtwo, would have added to world building. Which is why I absolutely adored the way Prism & Infinite Fusion handled the way you entered the region for the first time. *(SMALL SPOILERS DOWN BELOW)*
In Prism, the route to Mt. Ember is accessible from the route before that game's Victory Road equivalent, Seneca Caverns, you might spot a sea route to the east and decide to go there because why not, only to find yourself in Mt. Ember, probably about to have the biggest nostalgic moment of your life. I sure did, they couldn't put the full Sevii Islands into the the game before it was DMCA'd, but they made sure to give you access to the legendary birds. (which are my favorite legendaries in the series design-wise.)
Meanwhile, in Infinite Fusion, the ferry gets stolen by the Kanto Mafia, so what's the solution? YOU RACE YOUR WAY THROUGH THE CURRENTS TO CHASE AFTER THEM MF'S. And let's say things go down in Mt. Ember.

Gen 3 is my LEAST favorite of the gens specifically because it felt like you _had_ to cheat in order to access to Deoxys, Jirichi, Mew, and other such events. Maybe I did this on Leaf Green, but I also remember hacking past the plants to see what the old man in Sootopolis was hiding.
Also, there are actually two more islands that are in game simply called 8 island and 9 island. You can't get to them through normal gameplay, but they have map data and seem to function properly enough to be somewhat explored, which suggests they were abandoned early on and potentially replaced with Birth Island and Navel Rock.

Not having easy access to the internet back then and me being a careless child losing all of the instruction books that the game came with, I had no idea what all the braille dots meant.
I remember just playing around in the area around dotted hole and for one reason or another I decided to try and use all of the HM moves to open the door. To my surprise cut got it to open and I was super excited and satisfied with myself for solving it. Once inside, after reading the signs long enough, I realized they were spelling out directions. That's when I started to try and decipher all of the braille I came across to see if I could solve them lol. Honestly such a well made video that provided me with absolute nostalgia! Interestingly enough, I did not know that the berry spots and the items on treasure beach respawned. As a kid I found them and never tried going back to find more because I had no reason to think they respawned. Learned something new even after 20 years.

Lostelle is called "Pedrita" in the Spanish
Pedrita is a real name for a female
It comes from the name Pedro/Petra + the female suffix ita, this suffix is used to denote the subject or object's smallness or cuteness
The pun here is that, it sounds like the word "Perdida" It means Lost (ends in a because is a female person or object, if we're talking about a male object or person the word end in o, Perdido)
