- Today Uncle Stonnie is working on kennel maintenance and socializing Taji, a young Central Asian Shepherd. This video will not seem super exciting, but there are plenty of lessons to be learned if one takes the time to understand the essence of the message and pays close attention to posture, mannerisms, and movement patterns of the dogs.

I love working with animals I love the difference of the breeds and the personalities and traits. Many people don't know.
It was cool to see Hank doing a play bow to Taji in the beginning, and both of them laying on their back by each other. Seems like their friendship is coming along nicely!

You can tell both Hank and Taji are really starting to figure out how to be around each other without things escalating. Watching Taji lie down to encourage the other dogs to interact with him is really fascinating. Thank you for another great video!

Humans seem to think dogs should behave with similar standards as humans; but this video proves the fallacy of that thinking. The progress between these two dogs has been fantastic; because you allow them to be dogs, and develop tolerance for each other on their terms, not human terms. It’s almost like Taji knows his size is intimidating and counters that by lying down when he senses a dog becoming uncomfortable. Great to see him trying so hard.
One thing, I would use a slightly longer leash or cut the handle off, it is very close to snagging his rear leg as he starts to run. Don’t ask me me how I know this can be an issue!!
My Newf is (usually) like that with other dogs. She's alpha but not a bully (I think of her as a benevolent dictator). I was concerned about Taji's being leashed, too.

Stonnie, you may have been going around in circles but I really enjoyed this video. It was amazing to see firsthand the running power/stamina that Hank has. That guy is a running machine. Taji is like an overseer on a property, watching and guarding, which is what he was born to do. They got along well. As for the Labs - I just love them. An acre of Labs and a pond for them to swim in would be my idea of heaven.
Seeing Hank and taji submit to each other is very fascinating... especially only after a few days. Great video
I was very impressed with the progress both Hank and Taji have made right from the beginning of the video.
I’ll admit that in the earlier videos, I saw a lot of things that I probably would have corrected… I also saw that your approach is different from mine but you still have good control of the situation. Different is good. I can learn from that and adapt it to suit my strengths and abilities.

I built a mini challenges course in my yard and Luna of 18 months and I are making tiny incremental progress. It’s hard for me to be so damn reliable every single day! We have a few months to train here in FL and then we go to my country home in upstate ny where she will go camping with me in a tent and learn to ride my 4 wheeler and do river walks.
U are older but not old! Iam 81 and still love to roam with my dog only slower!! Lol
love your philosophy on letting dogs sort our things for themselves as far as relationships with other dogs/animals. folks don't understand they are doing the learning and you are still providing the learning opportunities. I had a littermate male over to hunt with my female, his sister. my dog got too close to either him or his owner and he didn't like that and corrected her. I didn't mind because she needed that education. nobody was hurt. they were just "sorting things out".
Yup, very much what I saw, Taji decided to allow the peasants to do peasant things, he knows that he provides overwatch. I did notice that Hank is very high energy and was hangin' with Uncle Stonnie the whole time you were running the machine.
Your grooming pattern surprised me, starting at the edges and working towards the center, rather than starting at an edge, doing the center and then continuing that pattern until ending going up the center to finishing on the other other edge, to avoid the need for sharp U-turns near the end.
So good seeing those two dogs starting to relax a bit and to find common ground and become pack mates, and taking on differing roles. Nice. Looks like Mr. No-name is getting a little gray on his muzzle.

I found this footage and summary of observations VERY informative. I have a 3yr old GSP poodle mix. We primarily do three types of intentional activity: neighborhood leash walks, offleash beach trips at a dog beach, and offleash open field trips. Watching the behaviors of these three dogs manifest in this video i have realised that, while all three activities i regularly cycle through are rewarding for my dog, he by far enjoys off leash open field trips. The areas we visit are just wild grassland with ponds, ditches, scrub, etc. While social time at the beach with other dogs is undoubtedly healthy and fun for him, and the more formal leash walking is important, hes a versatile field dog breed and comes alive ranging, quartering, and scanning an open grassland landscape.
Actually, we found the video interesting. They have come a long way since your last video. It was great to see everybody getting along so well.

…I watched the whole video and found it relaxing. I enjoyed observing the various breeds energy levels, and Hank wasn’t even winded or panting at the end. Taji seems very trustworthy with other friendly dogs. 😁🐶🐾🖤
I've watched all the videos with Hank and Taji, and I'm amazed at the progress they've made under your training. Seems like Taji is taking care not to intimidate Hank. He did try poking a couple of the labs a tiny bit and they just ignored him. Guess that's part of lab therapy. :-)

I liked watching how the dogs were behaving. I figured out the others but wasn't sure why the Catahoula stuck with you. Thanks for explaining that. I have a standard rat terrier and since you discussion of the Catahoula. I understand why he freaks sometimes when things are different. He comes from a family of independent hunters.

Good approach regarding "micromanagement"
Taji seems to be really good at de-escalating hanks tensions! Low posture, shake offs , self handicapping etc whenever hank gets a lil overwhelmed/ barky etc. Hank is still a lil cautious/unsure at times, but hes acting out way less and body language is much more calm, inviting and neutral/ confident, testing the waters by inviting play and much better s at respecting taji's boundaries and self regulation

I think Taji has filled out some since the last video with him. I like that he don't seem interested in running and other high energy activities,yet looks like he could move just fine if the need arose.
I fell in love with a Sarplaninac at a show. Similar type but smaller.
Yes! So much yes! No micromanaging! I go nuts when I see folks at the dog parks saying no to their dog every 5 minutes. People don't like the word, but there is such a thing as healthy neglect. Basically, if you are always on a dog, or a human for that matter, you are encouraging negative behaviours by giving them attention. Ignoring the little stuff is vital, it will go away instead of being turned into neuroses. I also found it wasn't at all boring, I was watching Taji search the perimeter, the labs just happily checking in with one another and Hank watching you and following you for direction. You are always great at highlighting the breed differences! Then it was seeing the other dogs drop off 1 by 1, made me think of my GSP, always the last dog standing :)
Taji and Hank seem comfortable exposing their bellies in each other's presence; I'd think that's a good sign.
Do I envy the owner of Taji!!! What a pity that his tail is not docked!!!

We had 2 dogs, one brilliant with other dogs the other really reactive. I was offered another dog that would have been put down if I hadn’t taken her. We socialised the dogs outside the house before taking the addition in. Funny thing was the dog who was normally reactive loved the new one from the first minute and never fell out with her but it was the well-socialised one that had a problem. There weren’t any really big spats but it was about a month before things settled down. I suppose two’s company and three’s a crowd!
Once Taji figured out what was going on (following you around in circles with the other dogs) he was like "I'm out. Let the Labs and the puppy do this."

noname is awesome, real trooper. I live in Suburbia with mix of show line and hunting line lab and that works ok for me. I don't think I could give Catahoula a good life on my limited sized property. to use a people's phrase and use it in reverse on dogs- different strokes for different folks -:).

Aside from the cowhocked legs,Taji is a beautiful dog and I hope he brings his owner joy for many years. However I can't understand why someone would get a dog who was bred to chase off/kill intruders and send him off to boot camp to turn him into a labrador at heart. Just get the lab or if it's an obedient protection dog you want get a giant schnauzer, German shepherd or Malinois.

Hank is not as reactive to Taji now. Taji doesn't have to react to Hank because his size says it all. I saw several playful interactions with Taji. Sorry - one of the Labs ran ahead of the four-wheeler for much of the lawn maintenance. Which one was that?

He came straight from Tajikistan for what that’s worth. I’m in no way claiming to be an expert on the type.
