- So you want to know how how ketones are formed in the body? What are the conditions that need to be present in the body for ketones to be produced? Great! This video is a really simple overview of that process.
I’m trying to be as non scientific as possible, but this is really important stuff. Ketones are a marker of fat burning, and therefore if we understand how how ketones are formed, we can understand how to lose weight! Simple really :)

Yes, this is the level I needed. The connection between my human daily life and my cells...
YES! Love the technical info - more please! 😊👍🏻
YES! You are the best, Dr. Dan. There are several other good low carb teachers on you tube, and I respect them all, but you are the most informative with clear information.
YES! I appreciate you simplifying the topic.
this is amazing!!!! you literally just answered ALL my questions.
Yes, thank you. Keeping it simple!👍
Amazing explanation! Thanks Dr. Maggs!
I love higher level information but I also love having simplified and to the point information. Thank you
Thank you for a great explanation of keytones and now it makes sense. We didn’t learn very much on that in nursing school.
This is exactly what I needed to know and it was very helpful and not so technical that I don't understand it. Thanks!
Yes this is the level of learning that I need.
This is a perfect level to explain this ... you have made this very clear.
Yes! Love the way you describe this process.
Thanks Jessie

Yes! Thank you
Yes. Very good thank you
Thank-You for your time, This is helpful. I would suggest some simple diagrams and an anatomy model depicting how ketones are used through out the body. Dot points at the end for those who would like to take notes and short quiz probably multi choice. Hope this helps. Also is there any other way one can join the community without using face book, I loath social media.
I took Biochemistry 40 years ago and I found your explanations quite good! 😁
yes, very good info.
Yes ... like this level.
Hi! New to channel. Did Dr ever do the more in-depth video he asked about? If so which title as I cannot find one. Thank you❤
Yes, this is the perfect level.
👍 this level suits me well.
Yes, layman terms. Great. Keep it coming!!
yes live your channel
It’s perfect 👍
Yes 👍 Very good!
Yes thank you
Dr. Dan you talk well. If i can recommend you use a board and pen and illitrate by diagrams the points you make. Also you showed the thickness of that bio chemistry book yet you only managed a 9 min videos. Look forward to your next upload.
OH YES !! Love the detail :-) explains the why … Thanks Ted
Yes, perfect
I like the level of teaching
YES! You are lovely!!
Yes to the level of scientific description. Although I might come and borrow that text book!
You can have it! It's a nightmare! Thanks for watching! How is parkrun going?
Dr Dan Maggs Park Run going good ta. Should be there next Saturday! My aerobic respiration knowledge is a bit rusty and after this video I was keen to understand how ketones replace glucose in ATP production, geek I know!

Your explanation about ketones or anyother topic is easy to understand but You should try some pictures or diagrams that would furthermore explain and ellaborate your topic which would be more easier for a viewer to understand.
Thanks Doc, I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. A question. If the goal is to burn body fat if you eat fat in your meals, won't your body choose this first as an energy source over your bodies's fat store? So wouldn't a low fat low carb diet be the way to go?
I think then you will go into starvation mode and you metabolic rate will go down. I is not about stuffing the body with a lot of extra fat but about the ratio fat, protein and carbs.
Yes,
Yes, anatomy, chemistry, and physiology. All interests me.
All good stuff. Thanks. Question: I remember hearing that the body will start consuming muscle protein once it depletes glucose levels. What do you know about that?
From what I’ve learned insulin utilizes glucose for energy, glucagon uses glycogen (stored glucose) for energy, and Ketosis uses fatty acids which are converted into another molecule by the ketones and then used by the mitochondria to produce ATP for energy. As long as you are not pushing your body to an extreme, your muscle mass should stay steady or grow.
Yes!!!!!
Yes ❤️
Yesssss
Have been on a Keto diet for a week started out at 16stone 7
1 week later I’m 15 stone 10 ….result 👍
Yessssssss🤩
Yes but I want to know what is it that we need ketones for?
Not sure when you say that fat is released from the cells and gets transported to the liver to be converted into ketones and in the same breath that the cells can run on fat as well as. . Why would the cell prefer to expel fat rather than use it as fuel ?
PLEASE CHECK THE VOLUME, the intro logo cut and theme is VERY loud in comparison to the normal speech
Hi Dr. Maggs. I have Type 2 Diabetes but I'm "underweight". I heard about the C-Peptide Test which is supposed to help you know if your pancreas is producing (or) not producing enough insulin. If your pancreas is "not producing" enough insulin, you "can lose weight" because the insulin is not transporting the sugar in your blood to the cells & if the cells don't have sugar to use as energy it will use your body fat for energy, right? I guess that's I'm losing weight. In 2013, I used to weigh 115 lbs.
Now I weigh about 90-92 lbs range. I spoke to my endocrinologist about getting a C-Peptide test & he says that's not necessary to get the test because my glucose level is "not" in the "200+ range". Is he right in saying that? I'm so depressed, confused & frustrated! I would appreciate if you can give me any feedback or advice. Thanks.
One question I have is why do we speak about low carbs high fat diet when we are trying to get rid of fat stored in our body? Can you explain, please
I have a question. I’m doing a low carb diet. For lunch I ate a hot dog with mustard. I tested my blood an hour later, my blood sugar was 82, and my ketone reading dropped from 1.2 to .4 why would I fall out of ketosis when my blood sugar stayed the same? Alternatively, I’ve had readings after I’ve eaten that said my ketone levels rose, but my blood sugar also rose.
If your Ketones rose with blood sugar, it depends on how you are measuring them. For instance, ketone levels in urine are the ketones that have been sent out unused by the body, so if your blood sugar increased, it may be that insulin was released, preventing the uptake of ketones, so they needed to be excreted out of the body. For your first question, what may have happened when you ate the hot dog is that it wasn't long enough for your blood sugar to increase that much (ie. for your hot dog to begin properly metabolising), and maybe your ketones were getting depleted out of your body in preference for insulin (if your insulin is high, your body is unable to utilise ketones).
Can you put your body in Ketosis by taking Ketones powder, such as BHB or MTC? Can this be dangerous?
👍
yes please, it gets so confusing
Can you explain the difference between keto Genesis and glyconeo genesis ?
Did he ever answer??

Please give me an answer. The fat found in eggs is different from fat stored in our body? Can our body make ketones from fat found in eggs? If our body doesn't have enough stored fat? Can you please answer my question? 🙏 I would be very grateful to you. Please help 🙏
Yes, it can.
Basically the liver is the philosopher's stone..for nutrition at least.
Is fat the fuel or are ketones the fuel?
I've read/heard it both ways.
Ketones are the actual fuel that go into the kreb cycle.
Please turn down your intro volume
What's with that ear blowing loud intro. I had to instantly turn the video off and type this.
