Gotcha! As a stressed-out nail biter since childhood, I've struggled with projects that require nails. My solution is that I use chain nose pliers that have tiny jaws, so that they can get into the small spaces and pinch. Have you tried tiny german chain nose or Lindstroms? Aloha! You can skip the jump ring if you make the loop large enough.. HOWEVER, because you are making the loop in such a soft and thin gauge of wire, it's stronger if you make a smaller loop that won't collapse and put a LARGER jump ring in that fits the chain. :)

When you “Clean up” the wire wrap you use your finger nails, I don’t have long finger nails and I am struggling to tighten the loops close together.
