My Dad used to come home from work and put his change into a piggy bank. He made a point of having us “help” him count it out before putting it in. We would count the rail cars out loud when stopped by a train. Every thing Dad did was educational, we just didn’t know that part yet.
Calculators came out early 70s, computers early 80s. The dawn of the dumb! Don’t get me started on cell phones! America would be 10 times more productive without them!
It is a real problem along with many other things in our educational system today, i think it all started when teachers were not allowed to discipline the kids anymore so i am going pretty far back. Jake is mid thirties now and can not read my hand writing which i pride myself in (my printing is also pretty awesome) lol.
I've had the same thing happen. It's gotten worse in the last 20 years. Then covid and online schools. That's a joke if they believe parents won't help/cheat for there kids just to say well my kid is doing great in school. My grandsons g/f is too scared to get a job because she doesn't want to talk to anyone?? Huh???
Schools have been dumbed down. Hand writing is outdated. Math is done on a computer. Cash registers do all the work. I must admit, writing cursive for me is difficult. 20 years in the Air Force, all aircraft records had to be written in print. As were other documents. My civilian job was the same. Then we got computers in the trucks. It's a shame that kids can't do the basics.
Ironically, typing was an elective in high school, mainly for wannabe secretaries. Now it’s required learning in grade school! Pretty soon voice recognition will eliminate that too!
@@KensSmallEngineRepair Our schools here are ranked among the lowest in the country. You would think they would be better considering we have three of the top colleges. One of the problems, and this came from a former teacher, is schools are teaching the end of grade test.
Let me tell you this, NEVER TRY to use a $2 dollar bill to pay for anything, I tried this at McDonald's and the little girl told me I couldn't use that as it was counterfeit, so i asked for the manager who was a younger woman who also said it was fake. Just think what would have happened if I had paid using Silver Dollars 😮 Hope all is well Brother
Not only is that the problem, but in the school systems, the kids can do whatever they want get away with anything they want. We just had one the other day that punched the teacher in the face and right now the only thing they did was give him suspension and that was it, I think that’s crappy if I’ve been an adult and assaulted another person that went to jail I need to do something maybe not jail but you know what there’s no respect for the adults from the kids either I don’t know what the right answer is I know back in my day if you did stuff like that, they pulled out a paddle and spanked your butt But I don’t know what the right answer is but something needs to happen that’s for sure 😊
I have bad news for you. My 7 year old forms his letter for regular text all weird. I asked his 2nd grade teacher if they teach how to write different now. She reluctantly said that unfortunately they didn’t “enforce” hand writing skills when he was in Kindergarten , that the school didn’t think it was important. …….. uggh . Apparently now they changed their attitude but it’s too late for him. My other kids who are older also were never taught cursive. It’s pretty sad. Other than signing my name on a check I pretty much forgot cursive because I never use it…

New Zealand changed over to decimal currency in 1967. Pounds, shillings and pence were replaced by dollars and cents.
The advent of handheld calculators. My arithmetic skills have suffered.

Yup, my Dad would raise his hand and you knew cut the crap!
Old man yells at clouds.
It’s when they yell back that you have to start worrying!
And many of them vote!😲
Scary

And it's the "adults" that have done the dumbing down. Not the poor kids' fault. Sad but true.
We rely too much on technology. We never have to Think how to do something, we have things to think For us!

OMG. I guess they would also freak out with a Red or Silver Seal bill as well! All is well brother
I’m 16. I agree most modern kids are dumbed down. I’m good at writing my signature in cursive and have the best grade in my math class.
Keep learning and you will be successful! Thanks for watching !
I believed it started when participation trophies were given for everything.
😂😂😂😂 happens all the to my wife... drives her crazy.
That is funny, and most kids can't tell time, remember the clocks with hands and no numbers? even with the numbers....
Absolutely. Cursive writing, grammar, punctuation, reading, writing, arithmetic….not any more. And they demand a $15 minimum wage! OMG!
I agree

Only doctors and pharmacists use it I guess!
Not good, it sounds like they don't really care either
Problem is they don’t have to care!
But they know DEI!
Lol yeah exactly it's getting like the movie IDIOCRACY at least us older folk can claim alziemers or old age what excuse do kids have ?
Give them a 50 cent piece or a gold dollar. They have mo clue what it is. Better yet a 2 dollar bill they thought it was fake money. Pshhhh
