And that's exactly why the manufacturer skips over the check oil part, sling a rod and they'll come back and buy another one from us. Cha-Ching 🙄
    Nice job Ken 👍

If you have some used oil from a recent oil change, that’s good enough since it might be shite any way

  • @craigtimmons3468

Brother Ken, Hope all is well.
I'm 100% shocked that it didn't have a bad rod knock or locked up.
I know these are known for using oil, and as you state they are not to bad.
For those who may not understand, If you don't keep a clean airfilter in it it will aid in the oil consumption, the more plugged the filter becomes the more vacuum it pulls on the crankcase thus pulling more oil.
When the filter gets as plugged as this one is the engine actually has to breathe thur the crankcase PCV ( positive crankcase ventilation) system.

All it takes to keep your mower running is a few small checks. Nice job Ken.

I thought like this with the Powermore line. They are OK to me now. So on the E seriess you said, this one it drank the oil because the air filter was plugged. Nice work.

See Craig Timmons post above. They normally consume oil but the clogged air filter just adds to it. Has to get air from somewhere!

I’m in two minds on the Briggs e series. On one hand, they’re the easiest to start, quietest, smoothest and compact machine that China produces at that price point. They’re fantastic in that respect. On the other hand, the plastic carburetors and the weak internal components just cannot withstand any abuse like the older Briggs use to.
If you keep that oil topped up like you said, they’re a fantastic budget / home owner engine!

    Hi Ken.
Something I only recently learnt is you need to change the oil after the first 10 hrs of running, like cars need and oil change after 500miles, because of the bits that get worn off during the running in period.
TBH, I don't know how that hadn't exploded with no oil or run with a filter like that?
Half my job seems to informing owners why it had a problem, and how to maintain their machinery.

Thanks Noel, the IHCC is a 1250 Quietline K301AQS but has an Arm-Strong lift. My customer wants 500 for it. I want to convert it to a dual stick model with front ports, I have everything but a ported hydro pump to do the conversion.

Nice. A fella I know has an 1100 cub cadet. Was an economy model when built. Briggs and Stratton 11 hp engine, no side covers, and Peerless 2300 transaxle, belt drive. But the neat thing is, it runs on propane.

Normal customer maintenance once again, either low/dirty black or no oil and an air filter that came with the mower that has been sucking in the dirt for 5 years. Yep normal here in Canada also.

I got a free one year old push mower with a briggs motor, 10 or 15 years ago, that would not start. I checked the oil, bone dry. Filled the oil and it started on first pull. Still use it every year and has never used oil.

wow, that was a thirsty engine, I've never seen one that dry! Especially in nice shape like that!!
That wasn't an air filter,,,,its Growth Medium for the Biomedical industry!
I collect what I call,,,"good used oil" lol, just for questionable machines like this one,, or the ones that have some water in them.
These can be "Money Makers" for us! I also like the 3 bolts on the top for easy access to a quick cleaning of the engine!
BTW, that's a nice cheap machine right next to it with the O'le briggs 3.5 flat head!

I would advise the customer to change the oil every season and check the level everytime he starts it . Oil loses viscocity and not changing oil is just a sales gimmick used by Briggs to increase sales !

Great vid Ken. Funny I'm doing a video on these engines to tell people not to buy them they are such garbage. Even if you take care of them, eventually the plastic timing gear and/or camshaft fails. Cost to repair outweighs the value of the mower with a repair like that. Cheap new ones with the same crappy engine start at $400 and up

People use and abuse their equipment and then slag it off as no good.... because they don't maintain it.
I say to customers to tell their friends etc and I generally don't get any repeat work from them nor from their friends...
