LINK TO EBAY STORE AT BELOW Lots of Reserved list cards in Ice Age, Very low Expected Value set, Very HIGH Nostalgia set. stores.ebay.com/Rudys-Magic-an...
Jesters cap is also my favorite. Me and my cousin would go to the local card shop when Pokemon just came out. I remember spending my allowance on a booster pack of Urza's legacy, (I had never heard of Magic before.) I loved it so much that I asked my mom for a booster box of Urza's Legacy for my birthday. Anyway my cousin and I always loved Jesters Cap...and 2 weeks ago I asked him if he remembered Magic Cards (18 years later) and he sent me a picture of him holding the Jester's Cap the he pulled when we were kids...I cried a little haha
Jester's Cap was also my favourite. I played for a few years in high school and when I finally decided to stop, I sold all of my cards and kept only one: Jester's Cap. Still got it, stashed away in a box full of sports cards.
Thanks for this video. Ice Age is my favorite set as growing up for some reason. I recently got back into collecting the cards again after many moons. This video helps me out. Thanks again.
Watching your videos really take me back in time. I started playing at the very end of Magic The Gathering 4th Edition. 5th Edition and Ice Age are probably the period I played the most. To bad cost of cards and availability was WAY worse where I live. (Norway if your curious) Not to mention if you didn't live close to a major city then good luck finding people to play with. I probably still would play if not for the fact that I never lived close enough to be a part of an active community. Great packs great channel.
Damn, that is a Hella stash. I started playing with revised, and while I have some Ice Age cards, I don't remember getting very excited over the set, except for Chub Toad.
i like your videos because being new i do not know a lot about the game itself and so your information is invaluable to new players. thanks RUDY!!!! #11 in the books.
I loved ICE AGE!!!!! I sometimes imagine have a room filled ot the ceiling with a throne made of ice age...then another room like that but of fallen empires, another room of Homelands. It could have been done with boxes were 50 bucks about 23 years ago lol
It's too bad that Jester's Cap got reprinted so much from Ice Age, that card used to be worth more. Also don't forget Icy Manipulator from this set, it's an oldy but a goody. Necropotence got put on the reserved list over a decade ago, so I don't see there being as much demand since you can only have 1 copy of it per type 1 or type 1.5 deck, you might as well get Yawgmoth's Bargain to supplement it. Remember: Magic: The Gambling is played for fun by players. Investors on the other hand mostly keep UNOPENED BOOSTER BOXES and UNOPENED STARTER DECK BOXES, this preserves the mystery about which players can gamble on the contents. I still enjoy playing Magic: The Gambling with friends, where we can smoke and drink and bet unopened booster packs on matches... and to think... I used to bet Unopened Urza's Saga Boosters in friendly matches I played! HA!
I've noticed the number of snow basics in a starter can vary quite a bit... I've seen people get as few as 3 snow covered basics in a starter, some people hit that wonderful 10-count. The one time I thought to pick up a starter, I hit about 8 of them.
Man, I remember like a year ago where there wasn't even a card worth over $5 in the set, with necropotence being $5, and StP being like $3 and that was it.
As Rudy said in his video, all of the Ice Age pain lands shot up in value recent;y to ~ $8 each...necropotence is @ ~$11, STP is still ~$3...I remember when Jesters Cap was like $20 for a few years...now it can be had for $2. everything else can be had for ~$4 or less. Not sure I would buy a box for $250.....I don't think I would even get half that in value if opened.
Revised and earlier starters only had 2 rares. When they started putting 3 rares in starters, but the starters were still $7.95, it was better to buy a starter than 3 packs (7.95 vs 8.97 for 3 rares) You also got 6 more uncommons (13 per starter vs 9 per 3 packs).
Just started to get into MTG is it still popular? I know it's all where you live but I used to hear awhile back that there would be tournaments every month not sure if it is still that popular just wondering. Going to buy my first toolkit prob later on should I get the newest version or go older?
I study economics myself, and after watching a big (... ish) portion of your videos (good stuff btw), I always end up asking myself the same question... What about the depreciation of his money over time? are those 100 bucks from 20 years ago worth it those 200-300 bucks now? Inflation must have had a strong impact on that money over 20 years.
If you spent $100 in 1996, it would be equivalent to spending $156 in 2016 dollars. $50 profit is a 1.25% a year return whereas $300 is a 3% annual return, after adjusting for inflation. Looks like if you have to wait 20 years to get those prices you're better off in stocks. Rudy has said in the past that the timeline is more like 10 years, which brings those numbers up to 2.5% for selling at $200 and 6.7% for selling at $300. That's closer to going into the stock market, though with significantly more risk IMO.
Would it be a good investment to look into buying Battle for Zendikar booster boxes? i recently bought a few to sit on mainly because of the expeditions and the popularity of full art lands, but i'm not sure if theres something better i could currently invest my money in.
Do you recommend collecting one of each sealed product in Magic? I've got a lot of spare cash sitting around and i used to collect Yu-Gi-Oh sealed product, but I'm thinking about switching collections. Not investing, just pure start a sealed product collection. I've decided to do this because Yugioh is losing popularity and i just don't find it enjoyable; I do play Magic at locals too now. I'm more of a collector and player.
Let me tell you bud back in the day all the way from beginning like you did I actually collected four of each card of every card all the way up to Ice Age so I had a playset and I was able to go back and then make decks when I Ice Age came into effect that's when I stop playing magic for about 6 years! That set and dark killed me almost
I still need one last Ice Age cardboard starter deck box to finish up my Ice Age era standard Gauntlet. Ernham Geddon vs Turbo Stasis, vs Necro vs Goblins vs White Weenie.
I started playing with ice age and wanted to complete a collection, but not through buying singles rather packs/starters. I want to retake the mission, so can you help me complete it? what's your ebay store?
Wasn’t really a block. Wotc retconned ice age homelands and alliances into a block, but only when alliances came out and they’d thought up tempest block. Rudy was talking about when ice age came out, not when alliances came out.
The problem with Ice Age, is that the highest priced card in the set is only 9.50ish on TCG player at Mid pricing. And roughly 9 bucks a pack, doesn't make financial sense. 20 years later, still not a moderately desired set.
LOL, I quit playing and collecting after Ice Age. I have piles of cards, Alpha thru Ice Age. Are they worth anything? I have no idea, they are all packed away in a closet somewhere.
Also interesting to know is that the Ice Age Starters sometimes contained about 15 Rares. I have seen a friend of mine opening a Starter back in the days. He was like oh man no Lands and I said Dude you pulled only Rares stop complaining.
I rarely ever sell, I work very long hours and try to stay diversified with my income and where i park my money, so i hopefully never back myself into a corner where i "need" to sell
that's cool, so you never see a price hike like say the Original (and best set ever) Innistrad and sell it on to make a profit to reinvest? Do you not worry that the Mtg bubble will burst? Just curious to hear your thoughts. I've collected sealed product over the years but not to this extent.
Yes crashes and bubbles are a major risk, i have a couple videos coming in the next 30-60days based around bubbles and market corrections vs. crashes. You will be heaven :-)
Yo, pretty sure I'm just trolling something you do know already but you know logic allows people to search packs without physically seeing what's in the packs. All sets of magic are mapped by people like Jason Vinz and there is even software out there that maps magic boxes as a software programming excersize. I can map Innistrad Block through Theros on my gen 1 ipad...
But seriously, keeping your stock UNOPENED preserves the potential contents, and thereby raises it's market value. I watched a video on CZcams of a guy opening an entire booster box of Antiquities, and he did not get any Candelabras of Tawnos at all, but at the beginning of the video, before he broke the plastic wrapping seal, that box was worth a ton more than opened. Although he did not say it, I had to assume the opener expected at least 2 Candelabras of Tawnos from the box. It's roughly selling for $640 on ebay, and with that many unopened packs, buyers would be trying for the Candelabra from each pack, which raises the intrinsic value of the unopened box tremendously. I agree totally, keep your Magic: The Gambling investments unopened, for sure!
OK sweet I will make sure to check you out and hopefully purchase from you. I need another box of eternal masters, so I am not trying to pay some of these ridiculous prices that our happening right now.
"you can't win everything" he says, standing in front of a mountain of boxes that will be worth over $100k 4 years later (just from the ones I can count).
I have a friend with a business degree that he can't seem to do anything with. I need to show your videos to him. He'll have a nerd-gasm of apocalyptic proportions.
Alpha Investments ew, do you wipe with packaging? geez, ppl don't realize how important this set is, of how it started to define how M:tG is these days... mindblowing. Arabian Nights & Antiquities were baby steps to this teen zit fest.
Not exactly true on scamming on loose packs - rares _can_ be mapped, particularly form old sets like this. There used to be another channel on youtube which discussed this but that guy has since taken all his videos down.
Well actually you were losing 16.66667% when buying starder deck boxes...... or gaining 20% when buying booster boxes! ....why am I doing stuff like this..............
This was when I got into magic. I opened boxes of this along with 4th ed. Fallen Empires and the Dark. This brings back memories.
Ice Ace, Alliances, and Mirage are all super nostalgic for me as I started in 95 also. Jester's Cap is my favorite card of the set mainly for the art.

Jester's Cap was also my favourite. I played for a few years in high school and when I finally decided to stop, I sold all of my cards and kept only one: Jester's Cap. Still got it, stashed away in a box full of sports cards.
The first booster box I ever bought was Ice Age, me and my buddy split a box, didn't get a Jesters Cap though
bro, do you stockpile all these cards? for like a nuclear attack?
The smell brings back all these memories for too. Thats a big part of vintage magic for me. The smell really takes me back.
love ice age. the first set i started playing.
Thanks for this video. Ice Age is my favorite set as growing up for some reason. I recently got back into collecting the cards again after many moons. This video helps me out. Thanks again.

Great packs great channel.
I always like to hear about the nuances of the old days
Damn, that is a Hella stash. I started playing with revised, and while I have some Ice Age cards, I don't remember getting very excited over the set, except for Chub Toad.
Chub Toad Chub Toad at the door. Run away or you'll run no more!
An Ice Age starter pack was my first experience with Magic. Now I wish I still had it, for the feels.
The question is: does the ink still have a scent after so many years?
Nothing better than sniffing old booster packs, right? XD
Absolutely smells AMAZING still
Old comics.
So cool to hear magic from a investment perspective, thanks man :)
2022 Rudy said to go back to old videos. It's crazy to see the difference in prices now.
An ice age booster box is now on TCG for about $1,350
i like your videos because being new i do not know a lot about the game itself and so your information is invaluable to new players. thanks RUDY!!!! #11 in the books.
I started with ice age. It's a nostalgic set for me. I'd love to get a bunch of boosters and starters.
What do you think of cold snap starters? I found a box of them.
Ice Age was my JAM.
My time was Fallen Empires, 4th Edition, and Ice Age.
Good times.
I loved ICE AGE!!!!! I sometimes imagine have a room filled ot the ceiling with a throne made of ice age...then another room like that but of fallen empires, another room of Homelands. It could have been done with boxes were 50 bucks about 23 years ago lol

Beautiful wall ironicly ice age is what first got me intrested in magic
I've noticed the number of snow basics in a starter can vary quite a bit... I've seen people get as few as 3 snow covered basics in a starter, some people hit that wonderful 10-count. The one time I thought to pick up a starter, I hit about 8 of them.

2022 here to tell you, "floppy taco machine go 'burr!'"
Non-searchable booster packs? The booster boxes themselves can be mapped still, correct?
Brant Bennett word, some people get access to Jason Vinz' software while everyone else has to be kept in the dark...
I bought about four boxes of packs in 1995 they are all opened .are they worth anything
How much for one of those staterdeck boxes rudy? That would bring me back.
Hi bro but the shipping in Italy is only free or I pay dogane or another tax?
Revised and earlier starters only had 2 rares. When they started putting 3 rares in starters, but the starters were still $7.95, it was better to buy a starter than 3 packs (7.95 vs 8.97 for 3 rares) You also got 6 more uncommons (13 per starter vs 9 per 3 packs).

dude, nobody falls asleep during your videos. This was the most interesting history lesson I've ever had. XD
dont you play hulk in avengers?
I am the HULK
for some reason the kids i play with at school didn't allow ice age cards and circle of protection in the deck
I want two starter deck and four boosters. For a retro sealed night......how much
i wanna get my hands on some new phyrexia packs, thats the set I came in on, would love to open a pack of it again
Going to guess that the snow lands in this set will continue to slowly gain value due to a lot of use in commander.
You're a cool ass dude keep the videos coming and don't let nobody discourage ya
Wasn't necropotence printed specifically foil 2 times? ftv and I think deck masters....
still my favorite video of yours
Would it be a good investment to look into buying Battle for Zendikar booster boxes? i recently bought a few to sit on mainly because of the expeditions and the popularity of full art lands, but i'm not sure if theres something better i could currently invest my money in.
Watch his Zendikar video.
We going to get an update on the ice age sealed product?
Please!!!
Do you recommend collecting one of each sealed product in Magic? 2016: 40usd per starter deck
2020: ~150usd 😱
Investing at its finest
2021: 250 usd
I still need one last Ice Age cardboard starter deck box to finish up my Ice Age era standard Gauntlet. Ernham Geddon vs Turbo Stasis, vs Necro vs Goblins vs White Weenie.
*An now the sealed Ice Age booster boxes sell for around $1,500 each .*
how much boxes you have ? is it all in your house ???
Great video once again :)
Just looked up sealed booster boxes of Ice Age on eBay. Lol.
I started playing with ice age and wanted to complete a collection, but not through buying singles rather packs/starters. I want to retake the mission, so can you help me complete it? what's your ebay store?
EBAY ID: Alpha investments :-)
wow, the memories
what is Rudy's store?
Omg I want one childhood memories right there
Is it worth buying an opened ice age starter deck 🤔
Do you also have ABU/AN/LGS boxes or just post-Revised stuff? ... I like the concept, but holy cow you have truckload-sized amounts of material.
all the ABU was opened and sent for PSA graded cards legends/Antiquities yes
Fetch lands did exist in Ice Age block, one in particular: Thawing Glaciers
Wasn’t really a block. Wotc retconned ice age homelands and alliances into a block, but only when alliances came out and they’d thought up tempest block. Rudy was talking about when ice age came out, not when alliances came out.
That is so awesome!

holy shit thats alot of ice there! not even the north pole have that much ice!
2021: Hold my tacco
Look at that young rudy with his crazy hair
Ikr
That's a LOT of product wow.
Interesting. I like this.
Rudy's gonna grow up being that guy who tells his grandchildren stories hahahaha I can see it :P !
Necropotence has already been reprinted in I think 5th edition iirc.
Nice vids, subbed!
not in black border or foil
Both "From The Vault: Exiled" and "Deckmasters" featured a foil blackborder Necropotence.
God I love this guy he's so smart
same for me, i started with ice age.
You should see Deriums video he mentioned your eBay trying to find cards and I came to check out your channel enjoy it
Came here from your most recent video... anyways some of these, please :)
LOL, I quit playing and collecting after Ice Age. I have piles of cards, Alpha thru Ice Age. Are they worth anything? I have no idea, they are all packed away in a closet somewhere.
Alpha? Dude shit that is a goldning
Yea but if you hate your alpha cards and such you can send the to me :)
Also interesting to know is that the Ice Age Starters sometimes contained about 15 Rares. I have seen a friend of mine opening a Starter back in the days. He was like oh man no Lands and I said Dude you pulled only Rares stop complaining.
I just like looking at all the cards I won't have.
I love Ice age personally. The pain lands. Cumulative Upkeep. ILLUSIONS OF GRANDEUR1
After watching this video, I re-smelled my cards compared to the sealed ice age starter deck I just opened.
Do you ever sell any of this on or do you tend to hold onto it?
I rarely ever sell, I work very long hours and try to stay diversified with my income and where i park my money, so i hopefully never back myself into a corner where i "need" to sell
that's cool, so you never see a price hike like say the Original (and best set ever) Innistrad and sell it on to make a profit to reinvest?

from what you're saying it seems like it's exceedingly volatile to trade these cards
I remember buying ice-age ..memorys 😊..
It's like wall of ice
Excellent.
383 cards! that's massive!
You're like the Lamborghini guy. But with magic
Necropotence was reprinted in 5th Edition
Wow. Well said.....
1:15 "People frowned upon the boosters"
Do you mean "People frowned upon the starters"?
yeah he prob did

Whats your eBay store name? I enjoy your content and you seem legit so im in.

2021 update im buying stuff currently
"you can't win everything" he says, standing in front of a mountain of boxes that will be worth over $100k 4 years later (just from the ones I can count).
I spent $40 on a single pack recently lol
Can I get one of those $40 starter decks Rudy 😅😂
Every time I see these stacks as backgrounds, my first thought is of the time you spent lugging this crap around.
Samurai of the Pale Curtain foil
So many!!!
The original playing cards....wow.
I have a friend with a business degree that he can't seem to do anything with. I need to show your videos to him. He'll have a nerd-gasm of apocalyptic proportions.
i love a good NERD-gasm
Alpha Investments
ew, do you wipe with packaging?
geez, ppl don't realize how important this set is, of how it started to define how M:tG is these days... mindblowing. Arabian Nights & Antiquities were baby steps to this teen zit fest.
rudy! where's your personality?
Not exactly true on scamming on loose packs - rares _can_ be mapped, particularly form old sets like this. There used to be another channel on youtube which discussed this but that guy has since taken all his videos down.
Wow, only 144 comments here? People really don't check out older videos lol
Lol. Funny commentary
Well actually you were losing 16.66667% when buying starder deck boxes...... or gaining 20% when buying booster boxes!
....why am I doing stuff like this..............
