I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, oil gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. A lot of people think that the solution to high gas prices is to drill for more fossil fuel. I'd say, stop using gasoline altogether. Reducing demand for oil and gas, like it happened during Covid caused the price of crude oil to crash. I do not advocate for oil companies going bankrupt, but they can downsize and still be profitable. Fossil fuel will only be used for flying planes which cannot go electric, and for power stations to provide the juice we need to charge our batteries.

Actually, that's a misnomer. The federal government has had a subsidy in place to regulate the effective price of diesel to truckers for well over a decade. It's a complicated system, but it breaks down to making it cost $1.25 per gallon to truckers as long as they get 6.5 mpg average. It's calculated every week and changes constantly as the fuel prices fluctuate, but it's there and has been. So the companies that haul everything aren't spending a whole lot more as fuel prices climb - in fact, since newer trucks are getting much better fuel economy the companies are MAKING MONEY off of that subsidy because as you get above 6.5 mpg average your cost of fuel goes down quickly because the weekly surcharge is paid per mile, but based of gallon cost. Use less fuel per mile, bank the extra cash.
So transportation costing more is a scam - the price of diesel isn't a factor. Companies just profit.
Source: am a truck driver currently. 🤔 15 years is enough, I'm out soon - this crap isn't worth tolerating anymore.

I have heard from some Conservatives the reason why we shouldn't increase the minimum wage is because it could lead to increased inflation. The problem is price inflation happens every year, which is why nothing costs the same today as it did a decade ago. And yet, because the federal minimum wage hasn't increased in over a decade, anyone who works a minimum wage job has far less spending power today then they did 10 years ago because of that same inflation.

It's like what they do with lawn mowers that need a different fuel mix to regular cars, whatever's in the little bottle has enough of whatever it is that's needed to convert a whole tank of 15% ethanol into a fuel equivalent to 0% ethanol - or close to that I think anyway, we don't have 15% ethanol here, sounds consernsing to me that it would even be done!
