    Brilliant video Chris, very good comparison and expertly delivered as always, many thanks. I went for a fixed focal length 20mm Tokina Firin f2 I am very happy with it but have not fully tested like you. Used, original box and mint almost £500, around 94 degree wide angle I think.

    Question , if this lens viltrox 23mm put to a7iii the equivalent is 34.5mm right. Is the megapixel will affected?it will lessen the megapixel?

    @mousse4444 Před 3 lety +4

    If you leave your audio output to around 10 you will not hear any noise coming from the Viltrox lens. Also one thing I have noticed is that if you leave your drive speed to slow
    and your tracking speed to responsive, Sony cameras will focus in a very cinematic way. Not good for all scenarios, but in many cases the autofocus transitions are very smooth.

    Hi, can you compare the sigma 16mm f1.4 vs the sony 20mm f1.8 in FF and crop, I have the sigma but I'm considering if is worth it to "upgrade", thanks in advance

      Did you ever get the lens? I just ordered both the Sigma 16mm 1.4 and the Viltrox 20mm 1.8. I currently have the sigma 30mm 1.4 and use it primarily for street photography. However, I’m about to have to do photography at a gym and plan to use the 16mm for that and use the 20mm for street and the 30mm for close ups at the studio

    1:55 in Sony lens with the same settings skies are more blue. I noticed that in Viltrox lens skies are less blue and overall more white/black in some areas comparison with Sony lens. True, videos from Viltrox lenses are more saturated. In provided link Viltrox to expensive. From their shop in any Ebay much cheaper, I bought for 195 GBP / 270USD

    Looks like the difference in contrast is a product of the different sensors on the different cameras. I believe the a7iii has better dynamic range than the a6100?

    Since you are shooting the a7III in crop mode anyways, why not put the Viltox on the a7 so we can see how it compares on the same camera? Makes no sense to use a crop sensor camera if you are already using the a7III in crop mode and making comments about AF, contrast difference or anything else is irrelevant because the lenses are on two very different cameras with different sensors.

      Great comparison! A contrasty and saturated output from a lens generally means that less light is scattered and is a sign of good optics. You can always put on a diffusion filter (or apply an equivalent in post) if you want to have a lower contrast look.

    Surprising Viltrox focuses faster than the GM. On APS-C those FF lens typically don't have any advantages in image quality. That's why I think APS-C for many people make a lot of sense. Cheaper and lighter camera and lenses.

      @@chrisbrockhurst so, your point then if APS-C lens is comparable in picture quality with FE lens, then I need to consider APS-C lens for my full frame camera?! 24mm APS-C lens is equivalent to 35mm, wouldn't it be wiser to compare this lens with Sony FE 35mm 1.8 in such case?

    I’m not a camera expert, but I thought the viltrox was darker because the a7iii has better dynamic range. So you can see more information in the shadows.

      @@chrisbrockhurst I appreciate your efforts Chris but this comparision cripples the 24mm hard to make the 23mm looks good. Honestly lens should be compared when mounted on their designated format. Nobody is buying the 24mm to use on their APS-C cameras or FF crop mode and neither anyone is buying the 23mm for their fullframe cameras.

    • @yellolao
      @yellolao Před 3 lety

      In actuality, the Sony 24mm is getting a big advantage here because of the APS-C crop. That is, instead of using its "full frame", it's cropping into the center where most all lenses are sharper.
