I bought a tacoma TRD pro for my grandmother and she loves the interior because it reminds her of when she bought her first toyota corolla.
Ouch!!
Since I have owned both a 16 TRD Off Road and a 2021 Rubicon Gladiator I got perspective. The Jeep is WAY more comfortable, the sound system from Jeep/ Alpine is much better than the JBL Tacoma. Interior is no comparison Jeep by far but again its a much more expensive truck. Gas mileage goes to the Tacoma the Gladiator is more thirsty. I believe the Tacoma is faster (gas motor to gas motor) in a quarter mile run , BUT right off the line I think the Jeep is quicker to say 30 mph. Tacoma's 3.5 is weak down low until it spools up then it gets going not a fan of the motor I actually liked my Toyota FJ's 4.0L better than the newer 3.5L.
Gladiator is way expensive I could have bought a full size truck for the same price. However, you do get Dana 44 axles a crawler transfer case (Rubicon) and front locker (Rubicon).
Personally, I think Jeep needs to put a rear locker in the Willy's Edition. Yes the Mojave has that but price is the same as Rubicon and not everyone needs to "jump their truck" with Mojave suspension. Willy's with just a rear locker and a much lower price point would compete well with Tacoma TRD or Ford FX Ranger.
I think resale is still unknown. Yes, Tacoma re-sale is amazing I bought mine in 16 for 39k drove it for 5 years and sold it for 35K HOWEVER, looking on craigslist Jeep Rubicon (Jeeps) hold their value to crazy levels as well.. Matter of fact research has shown the Jeep Rubicon Jeeps are actually a little better than Tacoma in resale so if that applies to Gladiator especially Rubicon Gladiator we will have to see long term.
Currently comparing both, THANK YOU SO MUCH
How has it held up over time?
@@patrickcagney8060 So far two years in and zero problems.
what is the difference on the gas
@@lolomas82 about same. Maybe one gallon per mile difference. I think or feel the Jeep does tiny bit better...it has 2 extra gear's but its about as aerodynamic as a brick. So really is toss up no real advantage either way...Around town I think Jeep is more thirsty its also quicker off line freeway maybe be bit better again more gear's...
Sold my Tacoma for a Gladiator and couldn't be happier. Only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. The Gladiator is more capable at every single aspect than the Tacoma and has a 10x better interior.
Have fun going to the mechanic a lot in that Fiat.
I agree, the Tacoma has no more wins left. Reliability appears to be just fine on the gladiator as well. Gladiator is also american-made, have fun at the mechanic as you sit on the floor in your Mexican made Tacoma with it's 2003 interior and lights.
@@bryanbahling2877 hahahaha you clown just cause you say something doesn’t mean it’s true you moron. FIAT Italian 🗑️ is the most unreliable brand you can buy dummy. Jeeps are unreliable overpriced junk and you idiots keep buying them thinking you’re Indiana Jones 😂
@@jaymoar3561 lol you're triggered because you know what I said is true and you have nothing left. It's okay, we all know you're a Toyota fan boy. Do tell us you're shilling Toyota without telling us you're shilling 😂
I have the 21 Tacoma and I have alot of seat time in both vehicles. I'd give all props to the Gladiator but I use my Tacoma for over 33k miles a year and knowing I'll have a high mileage truck in just a few years I went with the Tacoma. The Gladiator is just awesome in every department except for the price lol
The 3rd gen pentastar is tried and true and supposed to be every bit the high mileage engine of the good OLD 3.5 Toyota utility engine. I’ve had both and anecdotally the Toyota has let me down. Had 2 bad from the factory (Mexico made trucks with bad milling in the block, leaking oil out the back of a marred runner hole, replaced with one with a similar problem) and one is making a horrible tick that “there’s no fix for at this moment”. At least with the Lexus version they cover the noisy bits in foam.
Which also let me down in the middle of the western desert with 8 people on board with 2 failed coil packs that took 2 months to replace.
On any video with “Toyota” in title, you’d always find at least a single comment about reliability. Add in “Jeep” or “Dodge” and you are entering a circlejerk.
Yep, Tacoma is for me: it’s Budget friendly, Higher resale value and super reliable thanks #Autotrader 👍
I’ve owned a 2008 Tacoma, a 2012 Tacoma, and just bought a 2021 Mojave. I liked the Tacoma, but I LOOOOVE the Mojave. Both are great vehicles.
I too have a Mojave. And it’s a manual. I sincerely think, unless you’re towing, that the people that complain the most about the manual… don’t really know how to drive one. It’s fine.
We'll see how much you still love it in 5 years
@@chrislukasak8530 Take your negativity down the road Mr. Chris.
Carry on.
@@DougFunnyFrozenDrink oh I will take it down the road. Waaaayy down the road. I'll wave as I pass.
@@chrislukasak8530 I’m glad you’re enjoying your new Mojave.😀
I really enjoy these comparisons. Keep up the great work Jeff👍
I traded my 2019 toyota for a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon. The Rubi rocks! Much more comfortable and the 8.4 display with upgraded alpine stereo is unreal. The video is correct, the 8 speed auto rocks. Much better performance than the 5 speed auto in toyota Very happy with my choice.
Toyota Tacoma fans will read this and instantly get triggered! Your so right the Jeep is so much better!
Just got a Gladiator Willys a couple of days ago. Great review! It looks like I made the right choice over the Tacoma which I considered as well.
Just get the vehicle that YOU prefer/want........I've got the Gladiator and I love it. Tacoma's are badass also! It's just a preference.....
I bought a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 fully equipped in March of 2019, and I don't regret it. I also bought a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee altitude package 4x4 for my wife in December of 2018, and it gave is a lot of problems, to the point that started leaking oil and the check engine turned on, I bought it brand new and exchanged it at 21k miles after 2 years and 11 months, we took really good care of it and it still gave us problems even with really but really low miles on it. We exchanged it for a 2021 Toyota 4Runner Limited Night Shade Edition, we love it. It's nothing compared to the quality, reliability, and luxury of a FCA vehicle!!!!!. Scotty Kilmer told us, but we didn't listen!!!!!.
The old Tacomas were reliable, the newer ones are not anymore. People are having a lot of problems with the transmissions and rust!
I don’t understand how these American car companies have unreliable cars or truck in this day and age. Like can’t they just copy what Toyota is doing ?
@@xoxoj lol wait to u hear about British Italian and German vehicles
This is just 1 review dude! I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi V8 with 154k. Best vehicle Ive owned and guess what limited lifetime powertrain and engine warranty. Toyota has produced some real lemons over the years too! Problem with Toyota is they nickel
and dime you for every little thing ie leather, nav, etc. Grand Cherokees are considered a luxury SUV for the most part. What compares to a in Toyota’s lineup? 4Runner? They have been horrible vehicles except for the newer models but option for option are $5k+ more than a JC. Toyota reliability has slipped. They f’d up with the FJ. Jeep has blown them out of the water every year for oh…..since the FJ40 days lol. Ford f’d up on the new Bronco too! Jeep just keeps killing the off-road market!! A Tacoma and a Jeep, even a Gladiator are in different leagues. The fact that Toyota doesn’t offer a diesel engine is just stupid. Now if International brought back the Scout Jeep might piss their pants a little.
Jeeps fiat junk are known for problems. Even on new vehicles.
I'm a Toyota guy but I'm happy with my new Gladiator Rubicon, no regrets.
I have the 2021 JT Mohave with manual transmission. Manual transmission is unfairly getting a bad rap IMO. It took me a couple of hundred miles to get used to the clutch and its bite point, and the shifting but once you get used to it, I get the same performance as the automatic provides but with lots more fun. And for $2000 less. The manual transmission is Aisin on the Wrangler and Gladiator that coincidentally is one of the Toyota group of companies.
Very helpful! Thank you.
Gladiator can fit 35s from the factory (and a spare too) and 37s with 2” lift. Tacoma needs a 6” lift (or substantial trimming with less lift) for 35s. These characteristics don’t make the spec sheet. Tacoma for reliability and more traditional truck. Gladiator for fun and modding with solid axles. - Gladiator owner
37's fit on stock Rubicon JT's 😁
@@dnlpark Sure will but “fit” is thrown around a lot. Would certainly rub when flexing.
Nah, gladiator for traditional truck too, better payload, better power delivery and better towing, Tacoma has no more wins. Gladiator is a beefed up wrangler with a bed, reliability should be baked in, not like there is anything really that cutting edge to go wrong. All of it was already extremely reliable in the Wrangler.
Does anyone know where the B-roll at 4:07 was captured? So beautiful!
Which is more reliable in the end?
Damn that gladiator looks so good tho 👍
The 2021 jeep gladiator diesel has a package option with the full time awd but you can also get the rwd option too, they don't all come full time awd but it is an option if u want it.
Tacoma is absolutely worth it! The crawl control has me mind blown on what it can do!
Thats true
@DanOfTheWild
I will laugh at the Gladiator after the warranty is over with FIAT components Garbage 😂 👎
@DanOfTheWild
Jeep Gladiator is good when it’s new but after many years of owning that piece of garbage then it will be in the mechanics shop more often than driving the road.
By the way, my friend has one of this vehicle and his not happy about the Jeep reliability.
@DanOfTheWild clown 🤡
@DanOfTheWild did you look in the mirror?
Aloha. This is a very thorough comparison between the two midsize trucks. Yet, the Jeep JT offers more flexibility than the Toyota Tacoma. The only advantages that Toyota Tacoma have are the pricing along with the option of either a short bed or long bed. This is a great video 📼.🥳😎👉🏼👈🏿👍🤜🤛💥💫👌😇📼🚖🧐
I promise you that I would not be happy with the automatic. Manual transmission is always my preference.
I sold my 17 wrangler Rubicon because I needed a truck, I really wanted a Gladiator but went with a 18 Tacoma Sport 4x4, due solely on the fact that I cant afford the Gladiator. Maybe some day. For now I do like my Taco but side by side comparisons make me sad lol
Toyota Tacoma all day everyday.
Until you drive a Gladiator.
@@arsxs04 after you drive the gladiator you learn to appreciate the Tacoma even more.
@@poncho828 nope. I purchased my Tacoma new and had it for a few years. My only regret is that I didn't sell it sooner to get the Gladiator.
Toyota for reliability
Jeep for a toy
but which one will break down on you like next month.
Yeah, reliability and resale are not really that important to most! Lol. This isn’t a comparison, it is a Jeep commercial.
Buy what you like, and don't look back.
solid advice, all off-road vehicles are priced for same basic features and then the style comes in and choose from there,
bought the tacoma after this, thx
Tacoma will good and running after 30 years
Tacoma for life
Tacoma needs to drop a diesel version I’d sell my kidney for that
Why do the incessantly compare these like there's any real comparison. My 6 month old TRD Off Road was only 36k, brand new. I looked at Gladiators, good luck finding any and if you do good luck getting a base model for less than 45k. Even worse most of the Gladiators that I saw were running in the 55k range or even higher! With a 10 to 20k price delta these are not comparable they're going to draw very different buyers.
Jeep is the best off-road car hand s down . Still love the taco
I already like the gladiator, bec.I triod drove the wrangler Jeep for a week❤I’m loving it! Oh men I wish I can buy the gladiator
Get the Tacoma if you want it to last 10+ years. I never trust Fiat/Dodge products to not have cut corners on quality.
Also that 2.7 4-cyl has been around since 2001 i'm pretty sure, there are some that have reached 1,000,000 miles
Lease the Gladiator buy the Taco
If you lease it you can’t upgrade the way it looks better
Just buy the gladiator, it's way cooler, and is very reliable, as well as made in the USA.
Smart man!
🌮
Tacoma off road 4x4 for 35k Is far the best vs gladiator for 65k. With that 30k extra money i can make my tacoma supercharged and fully upgraded suspension kit with 35’s tires. ✌🏻😹
There not 35 there more like 46 right now, and the gladiator rubicon are like 50-55k
So don’t buy the Rubicon. Get a Sport with Max tow, 35x11.5r17 tires, an arb rear locker, manual front swaybar disconnect. Also, I just built a $52k Rubicon, no need to spend 65
@@JeepCherokeeful You must be rich.
Tacoma is a lot more reliable and looks a lot better.
Gladiator all day every day
A “ what are you talking about willys “ trim level.
The new Jeep JL platform is just downright awesome. Toyota shouldn’t even be compared to it. Toyota needs to get with the times...
huh? Toyota consistently ranks in the top 5 most reliable vehicle in the market, FCA is LITERALLY dead last.
@@jonmark11 Have fun with a 2021 vehicle that’s from 2005. Just terrible but fools keep buying them! Toyota is laughing all the way to the bank!
@@DUNEATV huh? you know the 3rd gen came out in 2016 and jeep does the exact same thing, right? the JKU was out for 11 years before the JL came out; also, have fun with an unreliable vehicle. I hope your engine oil cooler doesn't leak after an oil change
@@DUNEATV in fact, Jeep will keep the JLU platform for at least another 10-11 years. but hey, it wouldn't matter. your trash FCA product with the lowest reliability score won't last that long. how many jeeps make it past 300,000 miles? toyota is in the million mile club
really, ask yourself or the mechanics at your dealer.. does FCA have a reputation for having an extremely reliable vehicle or does toyota have that reputation?
You realize the wrangler and by extension gladiator have the highest value retention of any vehicle. Even the Tacoma. Especially the newer tacomas.
If you have money to burn then buy the Jeep.
Bias comparison, not getting an legitimate side by side from this Jeep fanboy
Yes, anyone who even thinks the Gladiator is more useful and or practical is lying to us and themselves;( to Recommend one takes this to insanity!
I had an 06 Tacoma and upgraded to a 20 and let me tell you 😭😂😂
Don't listen to people that haven't even test driven both vehicles. If you want one or the other go test drive both vehicles and make up your own mind it's your money.
Would only take the jeep if the deal was to buy a Tacoma.
if you want a superior off road truck. that's the gladiator. if you want a truck that'll last you way past your life time and is also amazing off road, get the Tacoma. Essentially, you're having to pick between a hot stripper girl friend or the cute girl next door that's a susie-home maker type. you pick.
Hot Stripper please.
The hot stripper never got me anywhere in life besides a good lay and costing me money. I’ll take little suzie homemaker lmao
Hold on, did he just call the Willy's a Willis?
Tacoma wins every single day of the year for what you get for the money!
I own a fiat looking to get a taco. nough said.
I can't get over calling it "Willis" instead of "Willy's"
Well, do you prefer to pronounce it correctly or not? It certainly SHOULD be pronounced Willys, but since it's based on someone's name and the name, despite the spelling, is pronounced Will-Us.
Hey Toyotas have been the choice of every rebel army and jihadist group for the last thirty years or so. I don't see them switching to a Jeep anytime soon
😅😅😅 well that's an interesting piece of information.
One word FIAT 🇮🇹 … oh I mean Stellantis lol
@@BigTruckingDreams Actually common knowledge
Just bought a Gladiator... Best decision I could of made 😊
I'll take the Jeep.
Taco 🌮
the jeeps interior dont feel *fresh as you mentionned * you kind sound sold for the jeep in your *test*
3:41 you just earned a dislike
I’d rather get punched in the gut vs owning anything from Fiat Chrysler💩💩💩💩💩
LMAO, really smart man. I made that mistake but I learned, and will never buy a FCA vehicle again ever in my life, and I bought it brand new and it still gave me problems, got rid of it at 21k miles, 2 years and 11 months of owning it, took really good care of it but still gave me problems!!!!.
Idk about that. My wife has owened a jeep cherokee since 2015 and nothing has gone bad on it.
It’s Stellantis ! Put sum respck on it too
Fiat Chrysler automobiles vs Toyota motor Corp.
The worst vs the best
lol damn … lip stick on a pig analogy basically
The EcoDeisel was trash, only lasted 3 years lol
did you say willis lmao what you talking about willis its a willies....... Willys lmao
I have owned both 2021 tacoma and 2021 gladiator and the gladiator for me is much better, more interior space, better fuel economy, way faster, looks much better tacomas are overrated and are turtles!🤷🏻♂️
Had a 2021 gladiator. It became an electrical nightmare. Unreliable, in the shop once a week the last month I owned it. The dealership was throwing parts at it. None of which fixed it. Just an all around piece of shit. Just traded it in towards a 23 Tacoma trd off road. I have to say the trd off road is way more capable off road than the gladiator sport s. Jeeps customer service is absolutely awful. Also the trd was 12,000 dollars less that the gladiator. Moral to the story I’d rather walk than drive a P.O.S. Jeep ever again. The only part I miss about the jeep was the seat was a little more comfortable.
tacoma from great in 04-06 went to junk 17-20, have 2 tacomas and drove 3 others tacomas on daily bases....DONT BUY IT...transmissions in about all of this newer trucks weak and loud...ALL AUTOTRANY IN TACOMAS DO THIS...YOU PICK UP ABOUT 15-20 MPH AND GENTLY PUSH ON BREAKS FOR STOP LIGHT AND BOOOOOM...LIKE A SOMEBODY ROLL IN BED 50 GALLONS BARREL...ITS TRUE...TOYOTA DEALER CANT FIX THIS DELAY IN TRASMISSION... THEY SAY IS NORMAL.....IT FELLS LIKE LOW ON TRANY OIL...SUSPENSION WEEK...
That was also my complaint with my 16 Tacoma, the transmission was ALWAYS searching for gears. So far 1.5 years in and no problems with my Gladiator. Toyota back in the day was known for reliability and I still think they are good, but not what they once were. I could tell a difference from my 08 FJ to 16 Tacoma as far as build in interior the newer Tacoma felt cheap.
Untill the jeep breaks down after 45k miles
34,300 miles for me. traded it for the tacoma.... never looking back
The Pentastar engine on the Wranglers and Gladiators is one of the most reliable and time tested v6 engines out there.
@@shmohsin-lasvegas hahahahha I don't know any mechanic that will say that. the 6 cy pentastar is known to leak from the engine oil cooler
I'm hoping the Ranger Raptor takes the title belt back from Toyota.
That jeep is just yuck. Everyone that bought one new already sold it or traded it in.
I hope the ranger raptor does well. That will push Toyota to up their game. Maybe bring the Hilux over from Europe. Lights out for the ranger if that happens.
Jeep.
Toyota best by far!
Jeep all day, in 30 years the Jeep will be worth more and continue to go strong. The Toyota frame will rust away to dust.
That’s if you live in a cold state
Jeeps are just flat out ugly though. If I wanted a WWII vehicle, I'll get a Willy. Jeeps are capable but look cheap.
Stupid review, all the things Jeep have will last a year before it breaks.
The 3rd gen Tacoma really isn't that good. The engine is a turd, the transmission is junk, and they are living off of old reliability credit. I test drove a new one that overheated immediately. My friend has one that the blower fan exploded in the dash. Nobody can speak for gladiator reliability but it rides better, has more interior space, tows more, is faster, and aside from breakover angle is more capable off road. This is coming from someone who had 2 4Runners.
What are you talking about??. I own a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 fully equipped, bought it brand new, till now it has 12k and has never give me any problems. I also had a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee altitude package 4x4 that I bought for my wife brand new, it gave me nothing but problems, we exchanged at 21k miles because it was already leaking oil and the check engine turned on. We took really good care of it but still gave us problems, just imagine at 21k and 2 years and 11 months, we don't drive a lot, but at that milage and we bought it brand new???, Come on???. We end it up exchanging it for a 2021 Toyota 4Runner Limited Night Shade Edition and we love it so far, and we have learned to never buy a FCA vehicle ever in our life!!!!!!!.
@@sergioayon46 Well congratulations I guess but I gave real world examples so your what are you talking about emotional cry doesn’t matter. The grand Cherokee isn’t in this video. I agree they are junk. I have had a WK and a WK 2, both gave us problems. The grand Cherokee and gladiator are not even close to the same vehicle. The gladiator is still a better vehicle than the Tacoma sorry.
