In those videos, there are a lot of racist Americans (in 2021 😳) commenting & spreading false rumors about India. They were pushing their own false narrative over Indians. It was pathetic. I am an Indian classical dancer, and I was born and raised here. I do not know about a lot of politics but here is something that I do know... The dance form that I practice is Kathak and it started as people wanting to tell stories, these story tellers or kathakars as we called them traveled from village to village telling stories and eventually started performing stories from the Vedas in the temples, with the coming of the Mughals.. Kathak wasn't supressed instead there was a mix of culture and today's kathak has so many hints of Central Asia, naturally too much outward religious expression of hinduism wasn't preferred as they were after all performers in the courts of the Mughal overlords. But here's what happened when the British came in, Kathak was deemed as debased erotic culture, slavery to idols and priests and Reverend James Long even suggested that Indian should perform tales from the bible. The Christian Church and Angelican Missionaries started the ANTI NATCH or the ANTI DANCE movement and Kathak could no longer be taught, performed or archived.They lost all their patronage and all the female dancers were pushed into prostitution and these women kept the tradition alive by orally reciting and teaching only family members. If you haven't seen a Kathak performance then I urge you to watch one and I'm quite sure you'll be surprised at what the Britishers deemed as erotic performances. Not only this, Kathak wasn't revived until a couple of years after Independence was achieved on August 15th, 1947. I could go on about how the repressive colonial policies has probably damaged India beyond repair but this is one of the lesser known facts.
Everyone is working harder to have food, no country provides food for free but India do, that's the greatness of my country.

I'm Indian born French girl and I'm very ashamed to say that I've never been to India because of all the stereotypes and prejudice I had against India : the dirt, the poverty and mostly rapes..... that's exactly what we see on the news here!
But if I think it was stupid of me to blindly believe all of that... for example, if I compare to France, which has been recently shown as a dangerous country (got many worried called from my family living outside France), it's pretty similar in a way that only I know it's safe, it's a good place to live and that the media are exaggerating. I know because I live here. So to see the truth about India, the best way is to go there....
