Bus signal from the vocal track then on the bus add these:
Channel EQ - roll off some of the low end preliminary EQ
Compressor
Linear Phase EQ - adjust as needed 200-500 can be a bit boxy, boost at around 10k to add some brightness
Desser - leave the LPEQ up and play around with the desser while noting the EQ
The dups are pretty much the same but just compress them with a harder ratio. And you can add the pitch effect if you wanna du
Reverb! - Bus the bussed signal from the vocal track to another bus
Space Designer (or other reverb)
EQ - to EQ the reverb's sound, take out the lows and highs to adjust to your taste
Delay - Bus the bussed signal from the vocal track (not busing the reverb track, just the bus straight from the vocal)
to another bus
Add a delay designer or other delay plug in and subtlety mix in some delay.
just notes for myself haha but i thought i'd leave em just incase you wanna copy them too XD
O my f*cking god, finally someone who makes a god damn sense with the mixing. And your one of the only ones who shows how to work with the busses tnx allot
About the busses i finally realize i have been using them wrong the whole time.
you helped me so much man, haven't been able to learn off other youtubers properly until i came across your videos, steady pace, chilled out guy, easy explanations and not going in too deep about things. 10/10 bro big ups + thank you
Thanks for what you do, man! Us hole-in-the-wall home studio guys really appreciate it.
2022 and this video is still much needed. I have my mixing routine I've been working with for the past few months and this has definitely taken my skills to a new level. Love that its with all stock plugins also. Appreciate all the videos, salute!
Glad it was helpful!
You are an inspiration. The next mix I worked on was just simply amazing! Thanks Sean. Keep the good work going.
+O'meroze O glad to hear it man :)
ive watched quite a few Vocal mixing tutorials and didnt fully understand what was going on but thanks for this tutorial! Easily understandable
thanks for the demo it ahead some light that I think a lot of us was having issues with..God Bless
Great video! Two years old and still one of the must useful and informative vids online. Thank you for the breakdown and insight in regards to each step in the process. Appreciate this big time!
glad to hear it Lee! đđ
You are a legend bro keep helping us man, the divine help !
Thanks as always for the video! I took notes this time. Now time to apply these tips to my project đ
Literally spent 12mins making custom icons just now for LPX just cause i never knew why it was there for or how it worked but then it hit me and now i made things simpler. thanks for both!
đ
Thanks for the great tutorial Sean, and for made one with only Logic plug ins default.
I just learned a lot of what Iâve been searching for, thanks đ
glad to hear it :)
Sean God bless Brother Thanks for your tips and tricks man for real.
Thank you. Ive just begun making raps as a fun hobby and this tutorial has helped a lot.
just finished making my first track! thanks bro for all the help with learning soft soft. much love
Man I really appreciate your Vids & Tutorials!!! Keep up, I'm learning a lot from you thanks man
that's awesome man, sure thing :)
Thanks for the tutorial it was very useful and easy to learn information make more !!!!
Sean man, be blessed, my life changing since I met you man, Thanks for the lecture u have been putting through, man you are my encyclopedia!
Big
appreciate that, really glad it's been helpful man đđ
I've been watching your videos for a few days now and I have to thank you SO MUCH!! This is an absolute game changer for a person who loves to write and rap but had very little idea of how to mix properly. Just applied these techniques to one of my most recent tracks and it sounds much more professional.
Only other question I have, if you're still replying to these videos is when I send my effects to a BUS it seems to do nothing. The reverb you talk about in the end for example just doesn't tend to register any sound on the BUS or anything, why could that be?
are you turning up the level of the send?
@@SeanDivine LOL, that would be it. Thank you so much, I have mixed and mastered about 5 of my tracks since I have started learning from you and everything sounds a lot more alive
Man. I'm mixing 8 songs right now between 2 artists and ive been looking for answers to stereo spread without duplicates being tracked. I use the delay trick but I didn't even think of the semitones. Thanks bro.
sure thing! Glad it was helpful
Really great basic mix explanations. Thank you.
I don't mix rap that often. My boys are just ripin hot level beats off youtube. So this really helps.
Just wish you were using waves instead, but i understand.
THANKS ALOT , REALLY HELPFUL ! ANOTHER STOCK PLUGIN VID WOULD BE NICE.
Interesting take. I don't know many engineers who put dynamic processors on a different bus. You do have your input and output gains on most if not all dynamic processors. I understand effect plugins. But the cool thing is there are no rules when it comes to this. Great job btw!
always Inspiring..Fire Beat All Around
Hey brotha, I got to say your really good at explaining things. I appreciate you.
thanks Robert, glad it helps
Thanks man I have learn a lot from all your videos and your music is amazing
thanks! glad the videos are helping :)
This is really helpful, thank you so much for this turotial!
James An no problem man!
Loved the vid. Please do a vid on adding busses and the order we should do it, along with a vid on correct competitive volume mastering you were talking about. I work in a home studio all by myself and i need a professional final mix in the end i can listen to at loud volumes (car stereo and subwoofers!!)
check out this video czcams.com/video/yWyGgx4KVhw/video.html
Thank You for the info Sir. Very informative, and super helpful!
+Flower Soldier no problem
love love love your channel !!!
đđ
This was very helpful bro shot my man now i fully understand.
YO YO YO U R BACK! nice
Sean, you are a genious!
Don't understand a thing all these other people in vids talk about. You're understandable and easy to follow.
I was wondering if you please could make another video like this for mastering your song with stock plugins as well. That would be soooo helpful.
Thanks a lot bro and much love from the Netherlands.
I'll try to get this up for you soon :)
Sean Divine you're the man brođŻ much love
Hype. Gained a subscriber. Much love.
never mind watch the video twice Thanks homie you the truth
cool! Thank you so much for sharing your awesome awesome video it was very helpful
respect for the stock usage. also I saw you itching for the AU folder lol.
you are literally the best
Song is so great man
OMGGG ur legendary thank you!!
Um, sir sean can you explain to us what's the difference between the regular eq and the linear Phase Eq?? hehe :-) thanks Sir
you are amazing
Its good you dont swear. Most rappers curse nowadays but your songs seem to have a good message.
đ
Great vid!
This the best video I have seen yet đŻ donât know how you even get a dislike
đ
Best tutorial video on youtube .. thank you
+Seth Reid no problem :)
Yea my output gain on the right of compressor was in the red but my mix sounds good, and not distorted, I was getting worried for a minute when you mentioned being in the red! To me compression is a little confusing so itâs like using logic and reasoning constantly playing by ear depending what sound your trying to create! Yo I appreaciate this tutorial!
compression definitely takes time to learn how it's reacting. Sure thing!
Just starting out
thanks alot this mite help me
wonderful video m8
u have seen u from begining , you have improved a lot ..
+amrik singh thanks
***** u welcome
Good job bro
great video thx!
Man, I've been duplicating the main vocal track 5 times panning it to around -10 + 10 and also -25 and +25 and then one on the centre. Fok lol thanks for the help
Appreciate this
Can you do a tutorial like this but using Chromaverb instead of Platinumverb? Also maybe the Fabfilter reverb Iâve been eyeing that it looks really nice
Dope video, this motivated the shit out of me.
Great video... First off I'm getting the feeling that you are on some Kingdom Business!! Let me know if Im right...lol. Keep it up! I just feel this would be a way to do a quick recording session. To me, putting a compressor on each vocal track instead of grouping sound better but is more time consuming (unless using a template). Using 2 compressors on a rap vocal sounds good as well. Thanks for the sharing! Im learning off the other posts as well.. God Bless.
I like your work bro I learn allot from you're videos
thanks, glad to hear it!
THANKS bro.
very helpful thanks
huge thanks mayn!
no problem :)
Very neat Lesson, Cheers
thanks :)
Great video
đ
đ§ Yea đ€ um... Iâm just going to send my stuff to you đđœđđœ I really need this to work cause I been going crazy on trying to get the right sound đ . Amazing work đđœđđœ
Hello! I have question about first EQ on 12:50 In list of effects on bus first goes Compressor, and then goes Channel EQ. Doesnt they should be in reversed order for EQ to affect signal before compressor?
can you do a video of mixing instruments? your tutorials are awesome. great tips
+Becket Palle thanks Becket, I'll see if I can get that up for you
+Sean Divine I appreciate that man. you are awesome.
bro this was a very great tutorial
Thanks Elijah! Glad it was helpful
Can you do a mixing tutorial for my vocals Iâve been using logic a few months now and still looking for my own mix and using someone elseâs presets doesnât hardly do with my voice bc I have a deeper voice
very nice tyvvvm
Hey man great great video and very informative as always. Quick question though, is it frowned upon to add a limiter to set a ceiling on the primary vocal bus as the last chain of plugins? Prior to sending it into the reverb and delay bus of course
I occasionally put a limiter as the last insert on the vox chain and set the ceiling to -1 or -2db, just to tame any extreme peaks. Nothing wrong with it as long as it sounds good to you.
Gotcha, appreciate the input man
would you do or do you have vocal chains preset using stock plugins on logic for those who cannot afford to buy waves gold bundle pack and still get great professional sounding result? i really like the vocal chains presets you have on your website but it would be great if you can do 25 presets with stock logic plugins. I would buy it in a heart beat.
its lit
Sean, I did a mix last night and it sucked.. lol.. Wasn't too bad but I am working on it.. I haven't done this in over 20 years and young kats like you that know that stuff, I am feeling your teachings.. Thanks again man.. Love your channel.. By the way, how do you get the song out of logic if I wanted to take it somewhere else or send it to you to mix? OR, If I wanted to play around with efx on my MacPRo.. Thanks man..
Hey JT, you could do export all tracks as audio files from the file menu. Or you can send the full logic session file.
imma watch this a couple more times lol
Sick
Bro is this CHH?! Youâre dope!
I will try bro
Saved my life
Nice vid! After the verse i heard the hook.. can u make a tutorial for a good hook
Do you have a video going over all the harmonies / tracks you have for your voice?
preciate you
Thank you so much
no problem Tommy!
can you do a video when u get a chance using the stock plug-ins but actually just making the beat hip hop or trap with blends of the 808 and kick drum I seem to keep missing it I'm almost there but I want my tracks to be able to compete with the other producers
This was dope but goes in a different direction that what I've been taught lol it sounds great! But what's next? Would you go ahead and distribute or is there master? And to create headroom for your master you just turn down the Limiter on the master channel? I know theres a few ways but curious for your next steps.
it depends on whether or not the mastering will be done in the same session...if you're exporting for mastering elsewhere, you should bring down all tracks to create ~ 6dB of headroom. Also, remove any limiters / processing on the stereo bus.
Thanks for the vid brother. Can you make a video about bussing please? Ive obtained a pretty good sound but haven't yet mastered the basics of busses and sends in order to achieve as Great a sound as you have. Please and thanks in advance.Bless
I'll try to get that up soon!
You're the man.great thing you are doing brother.God bless you my guy
when I send the vocals to a bus, it sounds like its doubling the track how do I fix that?
When I put my compression on the bus the meter isn't moving on the vocal but when I put it on the vocal itself the meter moves
Sean Divine This is my official channel , so you could see for yourself
artist sounds just like yelawolf! great tutorial, helped me a lot!
glad to hear it! :)
Please give a brief description of the plugin, how to use it. How to use the plugin. How to use it.
thank you
no problem!
Is the session the final mix you did with your settings. Or is it just for us to do stuff our selves.
Solid video for sure. Im just confused about the way you send your busses. Should I send the bus through the stereo output like you do on your video or send it where the sends options is? Is their a difference between the two? As far as quality?
This way you're routing the entire audio signal to one stereo aux channel for processing. Otherwise, you'll have duplicate audio signals when using a send. Sends are typically for reverbs, delays etc. that you mix in with the original audio
Hello Sean could you get in touch with me on priv when you have a min because i have few questions
the master channel was peaking
you can always bring the levels down for mastering in a separate session
Can u make another one?? Cuz the things about it is sometime I'll mix and the shit sound like it came from Dr. Dre studio but most of the time it's soooooo fuckin distorted, even with none of the levels peaking, but I feel like I'm just throwing compressor on the channel until the wave peaks at zero, but sometime like I said it's still distorted I just wonder if there's like some kind fundamental I'm missing when mixing...this video is very helpful and it would impact me greatly if u can make another one mixing rap vocals or link me to a different one that u already have... thanks bro sorry for the fuckin epilogue too lol
there are a lot of videos on the channel on this - these might be helpful czcams.com/video/6nNz0WhZGUs/video.html | czcams.com/video/bL0qumo3AZc/video.html
So it's seems that when mixing u kinda have to have a preference for what particular sound you want, and whatever it is, the important thing is to make sure the sound is leveled, does that sound about right? And also why does my shit sound awesome playing on the monitors but soooo distorted in the car?
Thankyou âšđ shalom
Do you need to master the song again after mixing vocals on a already mastered beat?
Would it be the same settings for studio one 3?
