  • Tucked away on the National Mall is a small but important structure that houses the U.S. Park Police mounted unit. This storied unit has provided protection to the National Mall and adjoining areas for decades. But their horse stables are in disrepair following decades of accumulated damage. The existing stable was originally constructed in the 1970s as a temporary facility, but the stable remains in full use today. The current stables are outdated and no longer meet the needs of the Park Police. Construction of a new stable is urgently needed to improve the facility - for the horses, for the park police and for visitors. Limited public funds are not sufficient to redesign and rebuild the stables. The Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, is actively seeking to raise private funds to initiate the project. Learn more about this important project and donate today at nationalmall.org/horsestables.

in 2019 I met a mounted officer and a horse named trooper. We met him across the street from the WWII Memorial in the national mall. Is trooper still there?
